Saturday Night Live hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che were locked in this week when tackling headlines, addressing disasters from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s meeting with president Donald Trump to MSNBC’s cancellation of Joy Reid’s show.
Jost kicked off the show by touching on the Oval Office confrontation, spoofed by the late-night show’s Cold Open earlier in the night. “Now thanks to that meeting, you actually can gamble on World War III on FanDuel,” he quipped, referring to Trump’s own words and referencing the online gambling company, the ads of which have proliferated online and on television.
He continued, saying Zelenskyy’s appearance on Fox News — where the leader said he thinks he can salvage the diplomatic relationship with Trump — “is like Justin Baldoni saying ‘I’d love to work with Blake again!'”
In a bit of a weak, late joke, Jost also added,...

Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update addressed Friday’s contentious Oval Office meeting with Donald Trump, J.D. Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as Elon Musk’s latest demands of the federal workforce.
Co-anchor Colin Jost, after showing Trump repeatedly telling Zelensky that he is “gambling with World War III,” joked that the meeting went “pretty good.”
“Thanks to that meeting, now you actually can gamble on World War III on Fan Duel,” he added.
“Trump repeatedly scolded Zelensky, telling him, ‘You have real problems,'” continued Jost.

During this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update, co-anchor Michael Che pointed out an uncomfortable truth: NBCUniversal is losing two prominent Black news anchors at the same time.
MSNBC anchor Joy Reid, who previously filled the 7 p.m. slot, has been let go as part of a massive reshuffling of talent at the news cabler. And NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt announced this week that he was departing after a decade in the chair.
That, of course, led Che to quip that perhaps he’s the next to go.
“This week, MSNBC fired its only non-white primetime host, and Lester Holt announced he is stepping down as the anchor of NBC Nightly News,” Che said. “Well, NBC, only one more to go, baby,” he added, as he pointed to a photo of himself.
Che has co-anchored “SNL’s” Weekend Update with Colin Jost since 2014, having replaced Cecily Strong in the role.

Colin Jost did something heroic for Scarlett Johansson.
The 42-year-old SNL star revealed that he once went dumpster diving across New York City when his 40-year-old wife, whom he married in 2020, lost her engagement ring.
“My wife actually lost her engagement ring,” he said while hosting Pop Culture Jeopardy!, via E! News.
Keep reading to find out more…
He went on to explain that Scarlett thought she “accidentally threw it in the trash.”
“I looked through 12 dumpsters of trash,” he revealed, resulting in no luck.
“I went back to the house and she said, ‘Oops! It was in my pocket,’” Colin recalled. “It was a great day for me.”
Colin joined wife Scarlett on the Today Show last month during her guest host stint, and they participated in a segment called “The Great Debate.” Find out what they debated!

As awards season finally wraps up, a treat was on offer in the second to last weekend of events. This year, the Screen Actors Guild Awards fell after final Oscar voting had ended, meaning that attendees at Sunday night’s show seemingly felt much freer to discuss who and what they think will win at the Academy Awards on March 2.
Given the momentum built off of its wins at the PGA Awards, DGA Awards, Critics Choice Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, and a Best Actress win for star Mikey Madison at the BAFTA Awards, there was strong notion that not only was “Anora” the favorite for Best Ensemble, but that the film’s young star was set to beat “The Substance” actress Demi Moore for Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture in an upset.
Of course, that did not happen, with the ceremony once again reminding everyone...

Whoopi Goldberg was sick last week and missed moderating The View for a few days while Joy Behar filled in for her.
The co-host of The View took some time off in January while traveling to Paris for fashion shows and returned with some “secret” news she reluctantly shared with everyone.
Whoopi let the secret out of the bag about an exciting opportunity she has coming up in March.
She will present an award at the Oscar Ceremony on March 2 in Las Angeles, but a sickness may prevent her from going.
Whoopi recently went to the SNL 50th Anniversary Special, where she walked on the red carpet and attended the show.
Whoopi made it to work at The View for two days after the show when calamity struck, and she came down with “the flu,” according to Joy Behar.

There has been “an air of kismet” about Susan Morrison’s 10-years-in-the-making biography of Saturday Night Live creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels, the author said.
The New Yorker editor managed to penetrate the still-secretive process of making the show, weaving in-the-room reporting from a week when Jonah Hill hosted in 2018 with hundreds of interviews, including many hours with Michaels himself. “There were absolutely no conditions, no strings of any kind,” she told Deadline. “Nobody pulled anything back.”
The result of those efforts, Lorne: The Man Who Invented Saturday Night Live, was published this week by Random House, just two days after the 50th anniversary prime-time special aired on NBC. On nearly each of its 600 pages, the book sheds intriguing light on Michaels and his creation. It documents his winding journey to 30 Rock and revisits defining battles like an infamous showdown with NBC West Coast boss Don Ohlmeyer, who pushed...

Dozens of celebrities came back to 30 Rock’s Studio 8H to reunite for “SNL50” last weekend. But it turns out the decision to have so many people shoulder-to-shoulder in such a small space may not have been such a great idea.

Martin added that he and Short’s The Dukes of Funnytown! comedy tour would be rescheduling its sold-out performances this weekend in Knoxville and Durham to Oct. 17 and 18, respectively.
“So sorry for the inconvenience,” he said. “I think we’ll be funnier then, anyway.”

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds made their first big red carpet appearance together amid their legal battle against Justin Baldoni. But all fans can talk about is how the couple stole the spotlight from Scarlett Johansson and her current husband, long-time SNL staff writer, Colin Jost.

When that didn’t suffice, people accused the Green Lantern stars of stealing Johansson and her husband’s spotlight at the event, by cracking jokes to reclaim their beloved A-listers’ reputation.

“Love is like a good coffee—it gets better with time, but only if you’re brewing it right,” someone once said. And if anyone knows about brewing love, it’s Scarlett Johansson. The actress who has won millions of hearts with her fierce portrayal of Black Widow has had her own love story full of ups, downs, and eyebrow-raising moments. From whirlwind marriages to candid chats about teenage crushes, Johansson’s heart has been on quite a journey.

“SNL50” celebrated half a century of NBC’s hit comedy sketch show on Sunday night, and in that time, there have been a lot of beloved characters. So, the “SNL” crew made to bring back some favorites for the commemorative night.
Sadly, that did not include Bill Hader’s Stefon, who used to appear on Weekend Update regularly with Seth Meyers, before the character eventually “married” the host. And his absence was definitely felt, as Hader was trending on social media throughout the night, with fans mourning his absence.
But it did include characters like Kristen Wiig’s Dooneese, Bobby Moynihan’s Drunk Uncle and more. So, in case you missed the show, we’ve rounded them all up for you.

Nobody was surprised (probably) when the massive, star-studded episode of "Saturday Night Live" celebrating the show's 50th anniversary mostly leaned on old standby sketches and concepts. There were some exceptions — including a perfect new Digital Short about how everybody who's ever worked at "SNL" has both anxiety and Ibs — but it's ultimately not shocking that the episode featured yet another musical ode to New York City's most disgusting aspects centered around John Mulaney.
From the man who brought you "Diner Lobster," "Airport Sushi," and "Port Authority Duane Reade," among others, we got "New York 50th Musical," and it's safe to say that Oscar nominee Adam Driver would only don a hot dog costume for something this great. After David Spade and Pete Davidson, the latter of whom note that they're "the same age" and just moved to New York in 1975 from the same small town, visit Mulaney's all-knowing hot dog vendor in Times Square,...

You would think that if you gathered all of the most beloved, history-changing writers and cast members from five decades of “Saturday Night Live,” you would be left with the best episode of the show to ever air. And you would be wrong.
True to its history, the “SNL” 50th anniversary special was just like every other episode of the long-running NBC show — some highs, some lows, some unforgettable moments, some that are best forgotten.
The “SNL50” special served as a reminder of just how difficult it is to write a live comedy show no matter your age or net worth. But there were some gems that rose to the top. Out of NBC’s 3-hour special, here is the cream of the comedic crop.

“SNL50” dazzled on Sunday night with a three-hour-plus celebration of the late night institution’s 50th anniversary.
The show, which brought back so many former cast members that they couldn’t even fit in the closing shot, paid tribute to the legacy of “Saturday Night Live” by reviving iconic sketches that mixed in celebrities like Pedro Pascal, Jon Hamm, Sabrina Carpenter and even Meryl Streep — who gave a filthy performance as the mother of Kate McKinnon’s character from the “Alien Abduction” sketch.
Memorable returns included Rachel Dratch’s Debbie Downer, Mike Myers’ Linda Richman as well as the show’s latest viral character Domingo, played by Marcello Hernández with a twist: Pedro Pascal and Bad Bunny as his brothers.

Steve Martin kicked off the SNL 50th anniversary special Sunday night with a monologue in which he made jokes about topics ranging from his age to President Trump’s decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico.
Following an opening performance by Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Homeward Bound,” Martin took the stage to introduce himself as SNL‘s “newest diversity hire” and to deliver the monologue, which he joked is “traditionally the weakest part of the show.”
“When I heard that SNL wanted to do an anniversary special, I literally wanted to leap into the air, and the only reason I didn’t is because at the time I was wearing a short skirt with no underwear,” he joked. “Now I can’t believe I even made it here in time. Eddie Murphy as Tracy Morgan, Adam Sandler’s musical memories, and all the best moments from ‘SNL50’
It’s hard to believe that Saturday Night Live is almost old enough to qualify for AARP benefits. Yet the groundbreaking sketch comedy series is indeed celebrating five decades on the air, commemorated the SNL50 special live on … Sunday night.
What started as a scrappy replacement for reruns of The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson morphed into a comedic institution, built upon youthful rebellion and an anarchic sense of humor. The brainchild of Lorne Michaels has been a breeding ground for comedic talent far too vast to list off, and some of its best known characters, sketches, and catchphrases have entered the cultural lexicon. To celebrate SNL‘s golden jubilee, here are the best moments from the 50th anniversary event.

Former Weekend Update anchor Bill Murray returned to Saturday Night Live on the show’s 50th anniversary special to list his top 10 anchors — none of whom were the man next to him, Colin Jost.
First, Murray poked fun at how there has only been one Black anchor of the segment: Michael Che, who has had the role alongside Jost since 2014.
“In honor of Black History Month, I want to start by ranking the African American weekend update anchors,” Murray said, presenting a board with just one name slot. “We’ll start with number one,...

John Mulaney took the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special on a five-decade journey through the ups and downs of the show’s New York City home base. Starting with the 1975 birth of the series, Mulaney’s star-studded medley began with convincing former cast members Pete Davidson and David Spade that the grimy 1970s was still a glorious time to live in New York.
From there, it was a decade-by-decade look at the city, with Adam Driver dressed as a hot dog, Kate McKinnon showing up as a disgraced former mayor Rudy Giuliani and Scarlett Johansson dressed as Audrey from “Little Shop of Horrors,” joking about real-life husband Colin Jost. Also, Nathan Lane sang an ode to cocaine to the tune of “The Lion King’s” “Hakuna Matata” — a song he sang for the film as Timon.

Scarlett Johansson is much more than a Tony-winning and Academy Award-nominated actress. She’s also a loving mom to two beautiful children.
Scarlett is beloved for her performance as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but she’s also appeared in many classic films, including Lost in Translation, Her, and Marriage Story.
Scarlett usually keeps her personal life as private as she can, but she has opened up about a few relationships over the years. She’s been married to Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost since 2020, and she’s appeared alongside him on the sketch show.

Miss Rafferty has a mother, and it’s … Meryl Streep?!
The three-time Oscar winner made her first-ever appearance on Saturday Night Live during the 50th anniversary special on Sunday night. She popped up as Colleen Rafferty Sr., the mother of Kate McKinnon‘s iconic character who frequently gets abducted by aliens. Pedro Pascal and Woody Harrelson played their co-abductees, while Jon Hamm and Aidy Bryant interviewed them all as Pentagon officials.
“Us Rafferty gals, we always attracted the freaks,” Streep declared during SNL50. “For years I thought Colleen’s father was part alien, but it turns out he was just uncircumcised.”
The 75-year-old actress added, “I still had my pants on when they took me, but much like her, I’ve got an ‘into the woods’ sort of situation going on. My ex used to say that it was like trying to hack his way through the black forest.” That...

“SNL50” brought the return of several veterans of the show, and sparked countless lists and rankings of the show’s history. So, Weekend Update opted to kill two birds with one stone, bringing back Bill Murray to rank all the hosts of the news segment of the show.
Of course, this was after Cecily Strong’s Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party returned, as well as Bobby Moynihan’s Drunk Uncle. Turns out, those two are married now, and Girl is actually Donald Trump’s new press secretary.
Seth Meyers even returned to talk to Lorne Michaels’s “best friends from growing up,” played in all their catty glory by Vanessa Bayer and Fred Armisen. But Murray was the closer, and he wasted no time in naming his favorite anchors.

For SNL50: The Anniversary Special, Weekend Update hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che poked fun at the late-night show’s lor(n)e and welcomed former hosts Seth Meyers and Bill Murray to their old posts.
“It is an honor and a thrill to be hosting Weekend Update for the 50th — and if it was up to our president, final — season of SNL,” Jost began. “It is incredible that SNL is still going after all this time, and I am just talking about tonight’s show.”
He added that the night’s special taping was so full that some big names had to view the festivities from “Studio 8G next door, as well as from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn,” flashing an image of disgraced rapper Sean Combs on screen. When laughs were somewhat sparse, Jost quipped that it was clear some attendees “went to the parties,” referring to P. Diddy’s “freak-offs.

The “Weekend Update” segment at the “SNL” 50th anniversary special on Sunday brought back legendary cast member Bill Murray to rank the segment’s past hosts.
Murray started by ranking “Weekend Update’s” Black hosts, which put current co-host Michael Che at number one — by virtue of the fact there has only been one Black host in the show’s history.
Murray then went through a top 10 ranking of the “regular” hosts of “Weekend Update.” Murray immediately took himself out of the running for the ranking, due to the fact he was on performance enhacing drugs. “It’s what we called an ‘8H Shaker,'” Murray said. “Quaaludes, cocaine, and Nighttime TheraFlu.”
Colin Quinn came in at number 10, followed by Kevin Nealon, Dennis Miller, and Seth Meyers. “I’m gonna put Tina and Amy just ahead of Tina and Jimmy,” Murray continued. “Jimmy, I’m sorry, and congratulations Tina. It...

A throwback-filled Q&a with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in the middle of SNL50: The Anniversary Special suddenly felt very 2025 tonight.
As the former castmates joked with the A-lister crowd in Studio8H, and Tim Meadows and Quinta Brunson got a Sade reference in there, the news that is captivating Hollywood stood right up at Lorne Michaels’ celebration.
Near the front of the star-powered audience bit, a tuxedo-clad Ryan Reynolds rose to ask a question of the 30 Rock and Parks & Recreation stars. With his in-the-news spouse Blake Lively looking on, the Deadpool actor stood up to a “How’s it going?”
That’s when Reynolds turned on the comedy chops and innocently replied: “Great. Why, what have you heard?”
Needless to say, with Lively’s multi-lawsuit war with It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni over what occurred during production of the film and the alleged online smear campaign that followed,...

Suddenly, it’s 2006 again.
Lady Gaga took the stage at SNL50: The Homecoming Concert on Friday night to perform “Shallow” from Bradley Cooper’s 2018 film A Star Is Born. She was joined by SNL alum Andy Samberg, who was comically filling in for Cooper.
Gaga quickly interrupted Samberg and suggested they perform something more in his “vocal range.” Samberg mentioned: “There is one song, but Justin [Timberlake’s] not here to do his parts!” Gaga responded: “Andy, don’t be a bitch. I’ll do it with you.”
They then sang a slower version, with Gaga playing the piano, of “Dick in a Box,” a fan-favorite SNL sketch and The Lonely Island song that aired during a holiday episode of the comedy sketch series in 2006. The performance earned laughs from Colin Jost, Scarlett Johansson, Sarah Jessica Parker and more in the audience. The original sketch starred the comedy duo, Justin Timberlake and Samberg.

The list of Saturday Night Live’s all-time greatest cast members doesn’t exactly match up with the roster of comedians who’ve appeared in the most episodes. More than half of the 10 longest-tenured SNL comics — Kenan Thompson, Colin Jost, Michael Che, Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong and Aidy Bryant all lasted double-digit seasons — appeared in the 2020s.
This is new. This is weird. Why don’t cast members want to leave the show anymore?
Chevy Chase couldn’t wait to go. After one year of SNL success, he was hungry to try his hand at the movies. Bill Murray, John Belushi and Eddie Murphy jumped ship after four seasons. No one wanted Tina Fey to leave, say James Andrew Miller and Tom Shales in their book Live From New York, “but as the saying goes, It Was Time.”
Will it ever be time for Thompson, now hanging out for 22 seasons and counting?...

We’re celebrating 50 years of “Saturday Night Live“! All this week, we’re digging into the late-night comedy institution with new stories, including lists, essays, interviews, and more.
Every Friday afternoon in midtown Manhattan, Akira “Leo” Yoshimura goes hunting. One of two members of the “Saturday Night Live” crew who have been with the show every season since its beginning in 1975 (the other being camera operator John Pinto), Yoshimura isn’t looking for art materials or props 24 hours or so before each episode of “SNL” goes live. He’s looking for Colin Jost.
The reason for Yoshimura’s weekly game of “Where’s Waldo/Jost” is because Jost is usually responsible for the show’s cold opens, which are always the last sketch to be written given that they tend to respond to current events. Once Yoshimura locates the wayward writer — and the production designer describes finding Jost as “the...

Pop Culture Jeopardy! deviates from the traditional Jeopardy! structure, centering on pop culture trivia. The game transforms into a team-based competition with three teams of three participants, creating a laid-back, community-inspired experience similar to bar trivia events. This modification shifts the show’s dynamic, presenting a relaxed interpretation of the classic quiz format.
Colin Jost leads the show, bringing comedic flair from Saturday Night Live. Jost’s playful, humorous presentation stands in stark contrast to Alex Trebek’s serious style, infusing the program with a more casual energy.
His witty commentary and engaging personality align perfectly with the show’s spirited, pop culture-focused approach, offering a fresh perspective while preserving the original Jeopardy! spirit.
Format and Gameplay: A Fresh Take on a Classic
Pop Culture Jeopardy! diverges from its original format by introducing a team-based competition that transforms the game’s structure. Three teams of three players create an interactive and social environment.

We’re celebrating 50 years of “Saturday Night Live”! All this week, we’re digging into the late-night comedy institution with new stories, including lists, essays, interviews, and more.
We know what you’re thinking. Why choose to highlight only the later seasons of “Saturday Night Live” as opposed to the full 50 years? It is the 50th Anniversary after all, right? Being perfectly honest, most of the people involved in making this list were not born before 1990, meaning we really couldn’t even appreciate “SNL” until after the turn of the 21st Century. That being said, we’re also all TV obsessives who have certainly seen “Word Association” with Chevy Chase and Richard Pryor, as well as Phil Hartman’s Bill Clinton, and even the sketch that got Damon Wayans fired. Our reasoning for sticking to just the sketches that aired between 2001 and today — outside of the standard generational divides in...

Former “SNL” star Pete Davidson has certainly made his share of unexpected purchases — lest anyone forget, he and Colin Jost went halfsies on a literal ferry boat — but he surprised even himself with a purchase he made just prior to entering rehab.
Stopping by “Late Night With Seth Meyers” on Thursday in support of his new animated film “Dog Man,” Davidson admitted he doesn’t have much memory of buying a massive fish tank before getting treatment.
“I went to rehab for four months, came back, that was just in the living room,” he told Meyers. “I think I made that decision when I wasn’t really paying attention.”
What surprised Davidson more was running into a random man cleaning the fish tank when he arrived home.
“I was like, ‘Oh, is this like, once every six months, you got to come by?'” he recalled. “And he goes, ‘Oh,...
