Saturday Night Live hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che were locked in this week when tackling headlines, addressing disasters from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s meeting with president Donald Trump to MSNBC’s cancellation of Joy Reid’s show.

Jost kicked off the show by touching on the Oval Office confrontation, spoofed by the late-night show’s Cold Open earlier in the night. “Now thanks to that meeting, you actually can gamble on World War III on FanDuel,” he quipped, referring to Trump’s own words and referencing the online gambling company, the ads of which have proliferated online and on television.

He continued, saying Zelenskyy’s appearance on Fox News — where the leader said he thinks he can salvage the diplomatic relationship with Trump — “is like Justin Baldoni saying ‘I’d love to work with Blake again!'”

Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update addressed Friday’s contentious Oval Office meeting with Donald Trump, J.D. Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as Elon Musk’s latest demands of the federal workforce.

Co-anchor Colin Jost, after showing Trump repeatedly telling Zelensky that he is “gambling with World War III,” joked that the meeting went “pretty good.”

“Thanks to that meeting, now you actually can gamble on World War III on Fan Duel,” he added.

“Trump repeatedly scolded Zelensky, telling him, ‘You have real problems,'” continued Jost.

During this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update, co-anchor Michael Che pointed out an uncomfortable truth: NBCUniversal is losing two prominent Black news anchors at the same time.

MSNBC anchor Joy Reid, who previously filled the 7 p.m. slot, has been let go as part of a massive reshuffling of talent at the news cabler. And NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt announced this week that he was departing after a decade in the chair.

That, of course, led Che to quip that perhaps he’s the next to go.

“This week, MSNBC fired its only non-white primetime host, and Lester Holt announced he is stepping down as the anchor of NBC Nightly News,” Che said. “Well, NBC, only one more to go, baby,” he added, as he pointed to a photo of himself.

Che has co-anchored “SNL’s” Weekend Update with Colin Jost since 2014, having replaced Cecily Strong in the role.

After 50 seasons on NBC, only 167 people have joined the coveted cast of “Saturday Night Live” with a select few sticking around for 10 or more seasons.

In an Instagram post shared Thursday, the Only Murders in the Building star announced that his co-star and friend Martin Short got Covid after attending the SNL50: The Anniversary Special that broadcast last weekend. He also revealed that Maya Rudolph, who also attended and performed in the special, had it as well.

“Maya had Covid. Marty has Covid. I wonder why? The SNL 50th Covid curse is real,” Martin said while sharing a photo of both Short and Rudolph embracing and sharing a friendly kiss. Dozens of celebrities came back to 30 Rock’s Studio 8H to reunite for “SNL50” last weekend. But it turns out the decision to have so many people shoulder-to-shoulder in such a small space may not have been such a great idea.

“Maya [Ruldolph] had Covid. Marty [Short] has Covid. I wonder why? The SNL 50th Covid curse is real,” actor and comedian Steve Martin posted to Instagram late Thursday with a photo of the aforementioned pair kissing during the special’s red carpet.

For SNL50: The Anniversary Special, Weekend Update hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che poked fun at the late-night show’s lor(n)e and welcomed former hosts Seth Meyers and Bill Murray to their old posts.

“It is an honor and a thrill to be hosting Weekend Update for the 50th — and if it was up to our president, final — season of SNL,” Jost began. “It is incredible that SNL is still going after all this time, and I am just talking about tonight’s show.”
