American Murderer (November 4)

American Murderer is a true crime thriller drama film written and directed by Matthew Gentile. Based on the story of Jason Derek Brown, the 2022 film follows Jason Derek Brown, a charismatic con man who becomes a fugitive and wanted by the FBI after he commits his biggest crime yet. American Murderer stars Tom Pelphrey, Idina Menzel, Ryan Phillippe, Jacki Weaver, Shantel VanSanten, Paul Schneider, Kevin Corrigan, and Moisés Arias.

Exclusive: Brandon Thomas Lee (The Hills: New Beginnings), Jackson Rathbone (Twilight) & Diane Gaeta (Adopt a Highway) will co-star opposite Chance Sanchez in his debut feature, Zero Road, which recently wrapped production.

The dramatic feature examines a preternaturally intelligent young man’s (Sanchez) descent into an underbelly of drug running and violence. It’s based on the writer-director’s experience growing up in poverty in the American Midwest, with a mother who suffered from meth addiction.

In the film, produced by Sanchez, Colin Floom and Mark David, Lee plays Russ, a small-time drug dealer with magnetic charm, who guides Sanchez’s protagonist into the criminal underworld he’s made his home.

Rathbone plays Gene, a mysterious auto mechanic masterminding a drug operation out of his shop, with an inexplicable intellect that reveals a calamitous past.

Then, there’s Gaeta, who plays Sanchez’s tortured mother, Laura.

What a beautiful little surprise Adopt a Highway turns out to be. This Ethan Hawke star vehicle is tender, touching, and altogether a moving experience. An independent drama with modest aspirations, the filmmaking debut of actor Logan Marshall-Green flirts with bleakness, but ultimately is a hopeful tale of redemption. Indie cinema too often ignores the latter aspect, trafficking in desperation. There’s a version of that story that could have been told here, but Hawke and Marshall-Green avoid going down that role. Ethan Hawke plays a parolee who becomes the unlikely guardian of an abandoned baby in the new trailer for Adopt a Highway, set to hit theaters and on-demand services November 1st.

The clip opens with Hawke’s character, Russ, getting released from prison after serving 21 years for a third strike conviction for possession of just an ounce of weed. On the outside, Russ finds himself alone and trying to acclimate to a world he barely recognizes when, one night, he discovers a baby that’s been abandoned in a dumpster...

Rlje Films has acquired North American rights to SXSW drama Adopt A Highway, starring Ethan Hawke.

In the Blumhouse Productions movie, Hawke plays an ex-felon who discovers a live baby left in a dumpster. Pic was written and directed by Logan Marshall-Green in his feature film directorial debut. Rlje Films will release in theaters, VOD and digital on November 1, 2019.

Producers are Hawke, Jason Blum (Whiplash), Ryan Hawke (First Reformed), Greg Gilreath (Lucky), Adam Hendricks (Newly Single) and John Lang (The Wind). Editor was Claudia Castello (Creed) and DoP was Pepe Avila del Pino (The Deuce).

Supporting cast in the movie includes Elaine Hendrix (Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll), Diane Gaeta (Other People’s Children), Betty Gabriel (Get Out), Mo McRae (Pitch) and Chris Sullivan (This Is Us).

Rlje Films has picked up the North American rights to the Ethan Hawke drama from Blumhouse Productions, “Adopt a Highway,” the distributor announced Wednesday.

The film is the directorial debut of actor Logan Marshall-Green that premiered at SXSW earlier this year in the Narrative Spotlight section of the festival. Rlje Films will release “Adopt a Highway” in theaters, VOD and on digital on Nov. 1.

“Adopt a Highway” stars Hawke as an ex-con who must learn to navigate the modern world while coming to terms with his own life, all while caring for an abandoned baby he finds in a dumpster. Marshall-Green both wrote and directed the drama that co-stars Elaine Hendrix, Diane Gaeta, Betty Gabriel, Mo McRae, Chris Sullivan, Nate Mooney, Christopher Heyerdahl, Loni Love and Anne-Marie Johnson.

Rlje Films has acquired North American rights from Xyz Films to Blumhouse Productions’ SXSW selection Adopt A Highway starring Ethan Hawke.

Logan Marshall-Green wrote his feature film directorial debut about an ex-con (Hawke) trying to go straight who finds a baby in a dumpster. Elaine Hendrix, Diane Gaeta, Betty Gabriel, Mo McRae, Chris Sullivan, Nate Mooney, Christopher Heyerdahl, Loni Love, and Anne-Marie Johnson round out the key cast.

Rlje Films plans to release the film theatrically, on VOD and digital platforms on November 1.

Logan Marshall-Green's wife Diane Gaeta filed for divorce on Friday and accused him of cheating in a scathing Instagram post. Gaeta posted a screenshot of a note on Instagram that explained why she is splitting from her husband of seven years. She even tagged Marshall-Green's profile as well as another woman named Sarah Hay in her post. “Upgrade” actor Logan Marshall-Green’s debut feature as writer-director is one of those baffling cases in which a project somehow made it to completion without anyone daring to mention that the script barely qualified as a narrative outline, let alone as camera-ready. Not every talented actor is also a born writer.
