- At 12 years of age, Melanie Hawkins was chosen to join THE BALLET DE MONTRÉAL EDDY TOUSSAINT in Quebec. She was discovered by Toussaint while at the Sarasota Ballet of Florida which he started himself while in the USA on his Visa. With two international summer workshops and galas, he brought in teachers and ballet stars from all over the world.
- Melanie Hawkins was nominated for "Best Female in a Leading Performance" in the stage play "Eighteen." The play was well received by the then under appreciated LA theatre scene and led the 25th Annual LA WEEKLY Theatre Awards.
