Rilo Kiley are reuniting for Just Like Heaven 2025, as leaked by a billboard on Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park, Los Angeles.
Like many other announcements, the lineup reveal for the nostalgia festival was put on hold due to the LA wildfires, but it appears there was some miscommunication and the billboard still went up. Besides Rilo Kiley, Vampire Weekend, Empire of the Sun, Bloc Party, and the recently reunited TV on the Radio are also set to top the bill.
Back in 2021, singer Jenny Lewis and lead guitarist Blake Sennett reunited for Linda Perry’s Rock-n-Relief livestream benefit. At the time, they hadn’t played together since Sennett joined Lewis onstage at Coachella 2015.
Rilo Kiley’s most recent project, their compilation LP RKives, was released in 2013. One year later, Lewis confirmed their breakup in an interview with the National Post.

When Anna Beckerman got the opportunity to go on her first-ever tour this past summer, she had to have an awkward conversation with her boss. “It was definitely weird,” Beckerman, a 29-year-old social worker at a Brooklyn preschool, recalls with a laugh. She reenacts the moment she revealed her side gig, staring bashfully at the ground: “I was like, ‘I make music…. You can look it up…. D-a-n-e…’”
That would be Daneshevskaya, the name she uses when she performs her tender, scintillating indie rock (and also her real-life middle name). It’s pronounced “Dawn-eh-shev-sky-uh,...

In an effort to defend trans rights in the United States, the U.K., and Canada, dozens of artists have recorded cover songs for a new compilation that will raise money for organizations in those countries. Joanna Sternberg recorded Caroline Rose’s “Everywhere I Go I Bring the Rain,” Rostam interpreted Lucinda Williams’ “Change the Locks,” Wednesday took on Elliott Smith’s “Christian Brothers,” and Model/Actriz perform the Ting Tings’ “That’s Not My Name” on the 44-track Fader + Friends Vol. 1 compilation available on Bandcamp for one month, starting today.

Fader has released Fader & Friends Vol. 1, a real star-studded covers compilation benefitting charities fighting for transgender rights.
There’s a whole lot in these 44 tracks, but here are just a few notable highlights: CoSign alums Wednesday recorded their rendition of Elliott Smith’s “Christian Brothers,” Rostam covered Lucinda Williams’ “Change the Locks,” Ratboys did The Beatles’ “I Wanna Hold Your Hand,” and NNAMDÏ did The Beach Boys’ “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.”
While most of the performers on the compilation — including Caroline Rose and Joanna Stenberg, who covered each other — are relative newcomers, the crop of songs constitute a vast timeline. There are covers of Big Thief, Perfume Genius, and Ethel Cain mixed together with songs by Stevie Wonder, Abba, Tina Turner, and Selena. There’s even an old English folk song (courtesy of Helena Deland).

When the Watson Twins sang for Jenny Lewis on her 2006 album Rabbit Fur Coat, they viewed it as simply doing a favor for a friend. Lewis was the Watsons’ neighbor in the Silver Lake neighborhood of L.A., and Chandra and Leigh Watson always liked an opportunity to jam.
Back in high school in Kentucky, the sisters could often be found at their friend’s Grateful Dead shop singing harmonies behind whoever had an acoustic guitar. To them, the Rilo Kiley bandleader’s project was no different.

Jenny Lewis has never had trouble expressing herself. On Joy’All’s “Puppy and a Truck,” she sings, “My 40s are kicking my ass … and handing them to me in a margarita glass.” Even before she split with her indie-rock group Rilo Kiley a decade ago, she’d assumed a persona that’s one part Dusty Springfield, another part Linda Ronstadt, and one more of Mary Richards (shake gently and sprinkle in a dash of Gram Parsons to taste.) She has always sounded a little down on her luck, and...

Jenny Lewis is back with “Giddy Up,” the latest track from her upcoming album Joy’All.
Not to be confused with Shania Twain’s recent song of the same name, “Giddy Up” is a sultry, twangy slow jam on which Lewis implores her romantic partner to cut the bullshit. “I’m not paranoid/ But I’m not not,” she coos, seemingly juggling her impatience with the pressure of keeping up a “cool girl” air of mystery.
Finally, over subtle guitar-driven instrumentals, Lewis succumbs to her desire: “Giddy up/ Get on my pony and ride,” she sings, which is not a confirmed Ginuwine reference, but we’d like to think he might’ve given Lewis a little inspo. Watch the appropriately Western-themed lyric video for “Giddy Up” below.
“Giddy Up” follows Lewis’ March single “Psychos,” which also appears on Joy’All. Out June 9th, the new record is the former Rilo Kiley...

Riley Keough and Sam Claflin are on their way to making a good thing bad in the latest trailer for Prime Video‘s Daisy Jones & the Six.
Based on the novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, the series follows the story of the iconic 1970s band, fronted by two feuding yet charismatic lead singers, Daisy Jones (Keough) and Billy Dunne (Claflin). The trailer released Wednesday shows the pair drawn into a complicated musical partnership that quickly catapults the band from obscurity to unbelievable fame. As they continue to work together, their artistic chemistry quickly turns personal.
After a sold-out show at Chicago’s Soldier Field, they suddenly called it quits. Now, decades later, the band members finally agree to reveal the truth. Set to the soundtrack of original music from the Daisy Jones & the Six, this is the story of how an iconic band imploded at the height of its powers.

Last year, Ryan Adams and Jenny Lewis hit the road together in support of their new albums; in Adams' case, it was his self-titled LP, while Lewis showcased her Adams-assisted third solo album The Voyager. One of their stops was an appearance on the Austin City Limits stage, and now both the Lewis and Adams performances will be featured in an Acl episode set to air this Saturday, January 24th.
While Adams' six-song televised set will feature Ryan Adams tracks like "Stay With Me" and "Shadows," Rolling Stone exclusively brings...

It doesn't quite have the buzz of Arrested Development (does anything?) or the fancy-pants cachet of House of Cards, but Netflix has another show coming out, and it looks pretty good. Orange Is the New Black, based on Piper Kerman's memoir about going to prison for money laundering, stars Taylor Schilling as the incarcerated blonde. Jason Biggs plays her husband, That '70s Show's Laura Prepon plays a drug-smuggling lesbian, and best of all, Natasha Lyonne plays one of Piper's cellmates. Oitnb comes from Weeds' mastermind Jenji Kohan, which explains some of the panicky-white-girl zingers as well as the affection for Rilo Kiley.

Tegan & Sara have announced plans to tour with The Black Keys for the extension of their U.S. Tour in October. The duo will also play Austin City Limits this October. Over the last couple months, Tegan & Sara have been in the studio working on their new album. The Quin sisters have been in the studio with Greg Kurstin (The Shins, Lily Allen, Sia), Mike Elizondo (Regina Spektor, Mastodon, Rilo Kiley), and Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Neon Trees, M83, Moving Units). They've offered up fans an inside look at the process of recording through Tegan & Sara's Carpool Confessional - a weekly video show filmed from the back of their car and featuring a wide variety of special guests...

I took a break from seeing movies 24/7 and finally got to my first Portland concert. I just made it under the two-year mark, which is absolutely ridiculous. I had tickets to The Stars and Ben Folds in Portland, but those shows didn’t work out. For Ben Folds I instead had to go to The Hangover press junket in Vegas. Feel sorry for me? In Chicago, I would say I saw a concert every two months. Arcade Fire, Coldplay, Josh Ritter, Ben Folds, Franz Ferdinand, Rilo Kiley … that gives you and idea of the shows I’ve seen and the musical taste I am inclined to.
