EMMY-nominated HELENA MEDINA (Spain/UK) started her career at NBC in New York. After her return to Europe, she creates, writes, and is a showrunner/executive producer of series for numerous channels and streamers both in Europe and in the US. She's now writing and showrunning "Red Queen" for Amazon, also as executive producer; has finished writing "XRey" for Starzplay with Howard Gordon (24, Homeland) as her executive producer, and is developing "Smuggler" as creator and executive producer in the UK.
Important milestones in her career are "Operation Checkmate", nominated for an EMMY and awarded, among others, with the Bronze Medal at the New York Festivals and the FIPA d'Argent at Biarritz; "23F: The King", which won her the ALMA Award for Best Screenplay; a nomination for World's Best Screenplay at the International Festival of Shanghai; the New York Festivals Silver Medal, the National Television Award of Spain and the ONDAS, among others. Other significant works are "Quello che nascondono i tuoi occhi", "Niños Robados", "De la ley a la ley", "A Christmas Story", "Welcome Mr. Kaita", etc. Most of them have also received international awards and nominations (Festivals of Monte Carlo, San Sebastian, etc). and unprecedented audience rates.
Helena is also a specialist at Creative Europe- Media Programme of the European Union, and has taught masterclasses and workshops at the most prestigious universities and international script labs worldwide. She has been a jury member at the EMMY Awards in the USA, the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain, and the WGGB in the UK. She has a Ph.D. from Columbia University in New York and is a member of the Writers' Guild of Great Britain.
