The Last of Us and Arcane are two critically acclaimed adaptations of radically different video games, yet both tackle the same story and emotional hook. Arcane is based on League of Legends, a game that is classified as a Moba, or multiplayer online battle arena. This means that there is minimal story within the game itself, with most of its characters and world-building being done by supplemental material. By the time of Arcane season 2's ending, the Netflix animation was one such piece of supplemental material that took characters from the video game and crafted an engrossing story around them.
The Last of Us, on the other hand, is the polar opposite of a Moba. The game is entirely story-driven, telling one of the most cinematic stories with the most well-rounded characters in video game history. HBO's The Last of Us adapted this game almost exactly, keeping large elements of...

Warning: Major Spoilers ahead for the Arcane series finale!Arcane writer Amanda Overton has revealed how the Netflix series was able to deviate from established League of Legends lore and how much freedom they had. Throughout the series, many characters in Arcane were altered from their in-game counterparts, such as Viktor (Harry Lloyd) being connected to magic more than machines, like his original rendition. The story also wasn't afraid to kill anyone off, with a good chunk of familiar champions dying during the final three episodes of the series. This begs the question as to how much freedom the show had regarding established characters.
Speaking with GamesRadar, Overton revealed Riot Games gave the creators of Arcane complete freedom in developing the League of Legends TV show. This included being able to kill off any champions they wanted in service of the story, alongside changing elements of the lore to better fit the narrative.

[Editor’s note: the following article contains spoilers for “Arcane” Season 2.]
The final three-episode arc of “Arcane” Season 2 is just as bold, experimental, and fiercely character-driven as the rest of the Netflix animated series, in no small part because it reflects the show’s construction. Showrunner Christian Linke and the rest of the writing team based with Riot Games were constantly opening hexgates (and/or Zoom calls) with the directors and animators at Fortiche Studios to amp up the visual expression of the emotional journeys.
A key example is the first episode of this last arc, “Pretend Like It’s The First Time.” It transports Ekko (Reed Shannon) into a parallel universe where the undercity of Zaun gets to look more utopian, like its sister city of Piltover, and where many of the characters we’ve lost are still around, and where Vi’s sister Powder has never become Jinx (Ella Purnell). And it arose out of Fortiche wanting...

Arcane composer Alex Seaver details how season 2's Heimerdinger musical sequence became one of the show's most heavily detailed but rewarding sequences to put together. The hit Netflix animated series is based on the League of Legends video game, telling the story of two sisters divided between two warring states and the rise of a mysterious new powerful technology. In Arcane, Heimerdinger (Mick Wingert) is the Dean of the Academy and head of Piltover's council, who is drawn into the emerging potential of Hextech, despite being wary of the untold potential it could have.
With Arcane's tale finally resolved, Seaver opened up to Screen Rant about episode 7's surprising moments. Honing in on Heimerdimger's performance in the alternative, more prosperous Zaun, he revealed that alongside recording Wingert's performance, he also worked with voice actors in 25 other countries to localize the track.

Warning! This review contains spoilers for Arcane season 2, Act III.
Arcane season 2, Act III tells an expectedly stunning story filled with compelling characters, tragic consequences, and thought-provoking themes. Ive made it no secret that I think Netflixs League of Legends show is a modern masterpiece, something that Arcane season 2s ending only solidified. My review for Arcane season 2, Act I included my worries that the show would have too much to conclude in only six episodes, but the final three proved me irrevocably wrong. Arcanes cast of characters united for an exciting ending that did not forego any of the elements that make the show so stunning.
Set in the League of Legends universe, Arcane focuses on sisters Violet and Powder (later Jinx) as they end up on opposite sides of a growing conflict between the wealthy utopia of Piltover and its dark undercity whose citizens wish to break away from their oppressors.

Arcane has been an outlet for Riot Games to expand on the lore of many of its League of Legends champions, including the brilliant scientist, Heimerdinger.
Heimerdinger (voiced in Arcane by Mick Wingert) is a yordle and eccentric scientist who is first introduced as the head of the Piltover council. After mentoring Jayce and Viktor to their success with Hextech, Heimerdinger was eventually ousted from the council for trying to caution their progress.
He eventually found a place with Ekko and the Firelights in the undercity, until the duo discovered a strange corruption emanating from the Hexgates and were sucked into an arcane anomaly.

Today, Fortiche Productions and Netflix debuted the final three episodes of their animated series Arcane, based on the League of Legends video game by Riot Games. Arcane has had an incredible run so far, winning numerous awards including the first-ever Emmy for an animated streaming series for its breakout first season. The wait for season 2 was a long one, but the series has proven beyond a doubt that the wait was worth it.
Arcane's second and final season released in three acts, with each surpassing what came before. Act I brought us back into the twin cities of Piltover and Zaun, bringing the fight between the estranged sisters Jinx (Ella Purnell) and Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) to a head. Act II brought back a character believed dead, Vi and Jinx's father Vander (Jb Blanc), who returned as the bestial monster Warwick. It culminated with a devastating battle at the commune...

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Arcane season 2, Act II.
Arcane season 2, Act II somehow tops the fantastic episodes of Act I, overcoming "middle chapter syndrome" with endlessly beautiful animation, a personal story filled with exceptional characters, and lingering mysteries that promise an epic finale. Arcane season 2, Act I's ending left off on a big cliffhanger with Caitlyn enacting martial law against Zaun as Piltover's general and the mysterious Arcane/League of Legends champion known as Singed creating a giant werewolf beast. My review for Arcane season 2, Act I was somewhat glowing, with my only worry being that the last two acts had much left to cover.

Set in the League of Legends universe, Netflix's Arcane uses the multiplayer online battle arena video game's extensive lore and engrossing world to tell the story of sisters Vi (Hawkeye's Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Fallout's Ella Purnell). Arcane season 2 was one of my most anticipated TV shows of 2024, purely due to how great its predecessor was. In just a few weeks, Netflix will drop new episodes of Arcane, its Emmy-winning animated series based on the League of Legends video game. The first season of Arcane released back in 2021 and made waves thanks to its well-developed characters, striking visual style, great soundtrack, and moving story about two sisters who found themselves on opposite sides of a class war between the aristocratic upper city of Piltover and the oppressed slums of Zaun. The first season pulled no punches, killing off a few important characters along the way and ending on a cliffhanger that may have spelled the end for even more after Jinx (Ella Purnell) fired a rocket directly into a room where Piltover's most powerful diplomats were debating the city's future.

Batman's team of vehicles is back for new adventures with Batwheels. The animated TV show serves as a unique expansion of the iconic DC hero franchise, shifting the focus away from The Dark Knight, voiced by four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke, to his and the rest of the Bat-Family's various vehicles, all brought to life by the Batcomputer. Together, they form the Batwheels, a new crime-fighting team led by the Batmobile, who goes by Bam for short.
Batwheels season 2 continues the show's unique blend of lighthearted character development and more direct crime-fighting adventures. Some of the episodes this season see the titular group facing off against the Legion of Zoom as they try to connect to the Batcomputer to become all-powerful, while also still taking time to enjoy things like dressing up for Halloween and helping Duke Thomas' Robin and the adorable Ace the Bat-Hound try and beat Harley Quinn...

It's hard to believe, but we're just over a month away from the premiere of the second and final season of Arcane, Netflix's Emmy-winning animated series based on the League of Legends video game. And we know this because Netflix finally confirmed the release date for Arcane as part of its Geeked Week celebration this week! And not only that, the stream also revealed that Arcane will have something of an unconventional release schedule.
Arcane season 2 will release in three "Acts," which feels suitably dramatic and fitting for the final stretch of the series. But don't worry, you won't have to wait long between each one. Arcane season 2 avoids Invincible's release issues, promising a strong conclusion for fans of the animated series. With all episodes set to release at once, Arcane season 2's strategic approach aims to keep fans engaged. Invincible's midseason break hurt the show's momentum, a mistake Arcane season 2 plans to avoid.
Arcane is finally set to return in November with its second season, and it looks set to avoid a major Invincible problem in the process. Netflix's critically acclaimed animated show was a huge hit when it debuted in 2021, but despite its popularity, Arcane will officially end with season 2, making way for future League of Legends adaptations. While the series may be hard to replace, it looks like it will have a strong conclusion, as the show ending on its own terms is promising for its finale, which also suggests the creators have a strong finish in mind.

Netflix has finally released a full trailer for the second season of its acclaimed animated steampunk sci-fi series, Arcane.
Good news for fans of the show, but we do also have some bad: Arcane will not return for a third season.
This doesn't mean that we won't see more stories set in the League of Legends universe, however.
“Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche,” said co-creator Christian Linke in a statement. “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of ‘Arcane’ wraps up with this second season. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”

The latest installment of the Kung Fu Panda has officially become a financial success. Despite the film’s mixed reactions from longtime fans of the franchise, Kung Fu Panda 4 has already earned $275 Million worldwide on an $85 Million budget.
The film series’ success is arguably attributed to the fantastic performance of the series lead, Jack Black, who plays the titular kung fu master Po the Panda. His performance brings the character to life, and it is hard to imagine anyone else taking on the role.
Unfortunately, we may have to say farewell to the iconic actor as in a recent interview with The Sunday Times, he was asked about the franchise’s future. He stated:
“For me, I think this is the farewell. This is the last Kung Fu Panda. Ever.“
He would then go on to say:

Marvel's "What If..." has employed a mix of reprisals and recasts from the movies. Captain Peggy Carter may have the super soldier serum, and Strange Supreme went down a darker path, but they're still played by Hayley Atwell and Benedict Cumberbatch like the originals. Tragically, T'Challa-as-Star-Lord also went down as Chadwick Boseman's final performance.
On the other hand: Mick Wingert fills in for Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Lake Bell plays Black Widow instead of Scarlett Johansson, and season 1 big bad Infinity Ultron was voiced by Ross Marquand, not James Spader.
"What If..." season 2 brings in two characters not seen in season 1, Hela (the villain of "Thor: Ragnarok") and Wenwu (the villain of "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings"), and pairs them up in episode 7: "What If... Hela Found the Ten Rings?" The episode splits the difference on recasting: Wenwu is voiced by Feodor Chin,...

However, unlike his fellow Avengers stars, it's not Robert Downey Jr. bringing his iconic character to life on Disney+ but rather voice actor Mick Wingert.

Riot Games's online battle arena video game, League of Legends, has a worldwide playership -- at last estimate -- of over forty million people. It's little wonder that when Netflix premiered Arcane, a series based in the LoL world, in November 2021, its viewership blew up.
What was somewhat surprising was how appealing the show is to non-League watchers. A collaboration between Riot and animation studio Fortiche Productions, Arcane streamed as three acts, each consisting of three episodes, with acts dropping weekly, with consecutively record-setting viewer numbers.
Two years later, Arcane continues to entertain and inspire League, animation, and Imagine Dragons fans with a 100% Fresh score at Rotten Tomatoes and consistently high streams. So when will we get the next chapter of Piltover and Zaun? Who will return? And what does it mean for the future of Hextech and Shimmer?

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight is the latest entry in one of DreamWorks Animation’s more fruitful universes. The third TV series in the franchise born from 2008’s animated feature film Kung Fu Panda (followed by big-screen sequels in 2011 and 2016), it marks nearly 15 years of storytelling around Po, a giant, energetic and endearing — if imperfect — panda who becomes a master of Kung Fu after being prophesied as the Dragon Warrior.

Howard Stern built his reputation by saying shocking things on the microphone. But his latest shocking comment making the rounds was broadcast accidentally. After recording an episode of his Sirius Xm radio show, Stern and his co-host Robin Quivers talk about summer plans, unaware that their mics were still going. Under the sound of ads and promotional music, listeners caught Stern referring to a fan-favorite character.
In a clip circulating on Twitter, Stern is griping about his upcoming schedule when Robin asks if he’ll be working over the summer. “I told you, I’m doing Doctor Doom,” Stern responds, followed by conversation too muddled to make out. One can clearly hear Stern reference the variety show America’s Got Talent, for which he served as a judge, and the phrase “I’m an asshole,” which could refer to either his character on a Doom project or his general dissatisfaction with his workload.

Netflix has commissioned a new “Kung Fu Panda” animated series with Jack Black returning to voice the main character, Po.
In the series, titled “Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight,” a mysterious pair of weasels set their sights on a collection of four powerful weapons. Po must leave his home to embark on a globe-trotting quest for redemption and justice that finds him partnered up with a no-nonsense English knight named Wandering Blade. Together, these two mismatched warriors set out on an epic adventure to find the magical weapons first and save the world from destruction — and they may even learn a thing or two from each other along the way.
Like all things in the “Kung Fu Panda” franchise, the new series hails from DreamWorks Animation. Peter Hastings and Shaunt Nigoghossian serve as executive producers on the series, with Chris Amick and Ben Mekler co-executive producing.

Jack Black will be returning as the voice of one of his most iconic roles in the new Netflix animated series Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight. The Kung Fu Panda franchise began when DreamWorks Animation released the original film in 2008. It followed Po (Black), an enthusiastic but clumsy panda who has a dream of learning kung fu. At first he isn't accepted by the elite group the Furious Five, who are all trained by Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman), but his inimitable style proves instrumental in defending their village from the evil Tai Lung (Ian McShane) and Po becomes an unlikely hero.
Kung Fu Panda became an enormous box office success, earning the #6 slot in the top 10 domestic films of the year, right behind Pixar's Wall-e. This review contains spoilers for Marvel’s What If…? episode 6.
Episode 6 of Marvel’s What If…?, entitled “What If… Killmonger Rescued Tony Stark?”, might be the flattest episode to come out of the series so far, but it at least works in the way the other Disney+ Marvel shows work. It takes a character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe who didn’t get quite enough time in the spotlight and gives us more. In this case, it’s the charismatic Black Panther villain Erik “Killmonger” Stevens.
As he was only relevant to the Black Panther movie, we get to see the character step out of that bubble and interact with some other MCU mainstays. His connection with Tony Stark cheats the world out of Iron Man, but there’s the question of whether the situation might have a positive effect on Killmonger’s soul, like how his cousin T’Challa...

As Tony continues to press some ideas, Killmonger introduces one of his own. “What we need is Vibranium,” says Killmonger candidly. “With the right juice, it can act as a self-sustaining energy source.

After more than 900 episodes and over a dozen feature films, it can be difficult to generate content that doesn’t simply repeat the past. The One Piece series has seen and done a lot at this point, yet despite its hefty history, the series' newest film, One Piece: Stampede, is a satisfying effort that takes the franchise to exciting places.
Stampede is the 14th film in the franchise and is directed by series newcomer Takashi Otsuka. Beyond just commemorating the anime’s 20th anniversary, he’s with also crafting a film that actively takes place outside of the One Piece canon. The choice to isolate the story makes it both more accessible and a pretense to tell a pirate version of It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad World.

It is scary how few decent family Halloween films have been made in recent years. Not tenuously linked creature themed animations with a 5 second glimpse of a pumpkin. Proper, unapologetic, Halloween centred shivers squarely aimed at children. Happily things are about to change. That poor overworked Hocus Pocus DVD (and precious Tim Burton collection) can enjoy some time off this half term as you head for the cinema to scare the fidgets right out of your little monsters. Goosebumps 2 is here!
The unexpected love for 2015’s Goosebumps was a heartening thing to behold. 2012 will be the first year that GeekTrant will invade WonderCon, mostly due to the fact that it was moved down to Anaheim, CA this year which is right in our backyard. We're all pretty excited about attending this year, as we've heard it's a much smaller more intimate version of San Diego Comic Con.
WonderCon is set to open on Friday, March 16th and run through Sunday, March 18th at the Anaheim Convention Center. If you plan on attending let us know, and maybe we can meet up and hang out for a bit!
I've put stars next to the panels we are interested in attending. Check out the schedule, and let us know what you are looking forward to seeing most!
Friday March 16th
12:30-1:30 Idw Presents: The Idw Panel!— Chief creative officer Chris Ryall and sergeant of marketing Dirk Wood, give out prizes, make announcements, and evade questions!
