Mario awarded "The Silver Goddess" 2023 for the best music score for his most recent feature film score, the Mexican production "Lecciones para canallas (2022)" (Lessons for Scoundrels) which was released nationwide in Autumn 2022 and on Amazon Prime was the most viewed Mexican film of the year, scored the animated short film "Humo (2023)" which was nominated for the ANNIE awards and made it to the final shortlist of nominees for the Oscars 2024. Mario's work was awarded "Best Music Score" at the Redline International Film Festival, Canada 2018 for the short film "Answer me", "Best Music Score" at the Third Muestra de Cine Independiente "Apolo" Mexico 2016 for "The Worst Crime" and nominated for "Best Sound Design" for "Cry" at La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival, California 2019.
Mexican composer Mario Osuna first ventured into music at the age of fourteen teaching himself Bossa Nova guitar. The combination of latin rhythms and contemporary harmony as well as Mexican traditional music inform his compositional style to this day. Mario has composed for numerous feature films.
In 1999 Mario moved to London and studied film music composition under Jerry Goldsmith trained Amit Sen as well as undertaking further training in music technology, sound engineering, soundscape and sound design. The next move was to La Habana, Cuba, where he studied composition with Jesús Ortega. Finally, he studied film mixing under 2021 Oscar winning Jaime Baksht in Mexico City. This eclectic blend of skills has shaped Mario's colourful and versatile approach to film scoring.
Mario Osuna has scored 22 feature films and 46 shorts. His Mexican and international films include: "Llamando a un ángel (2008)" (Calling an Angel - Walt Disney Studios), the award winning "Fecha de Caducidad (2012)" (Expiration Date) and "El Diario de Luis" ("Luis' Diary, feature film documentary premiered in Tel Aviv 2022). His shorts include the animated "Jaulas (2009)" (Cages) ) and "Lluvia en los ojos (2013)" (Rain in the Eyes) both winners of the prestigious Mexican Ariel award. His theatre, dance and TV/radio commissions include "Brigada Roja" (Red Brigade 2016), "Yo ya no" (Never Again 2006), and "Alice in Wonderland" 2020. Mario celebrates his musical collaborations including with internationally renowned singers Lila Downs and Rita Guerrero for "De como los niños pueden volar (2008)" (On how Children can Fly) and "El aliento de Dios (2008)" (God's Breath).
