Average Joe is returning for a second season. BET+ has renewed the dark comedy-drama series starring Deon Cole. The show premiered last summer, and the tenth and final episode of the season was released on August 17th.

Also starring Tammy Townsend, Malcolm Barrett, Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, Michael Trucco, Ashley Olivia Fisher, and Pasha Lychnikoff, the Average Joe series is based on the life of co-creator Robb Cullen. The story follows the life of a blue-collar plumber (Cole) who discovers that his father led a secret life and stole millions of dollars and a car from dangerous people just before he died.

Of the renewal, Cole said in a statement, "Hold on tight, A Lot Of Action! This one will be crazy. Let's go!"

Season 2 is slated to begin production in late 2024 in South Africa. In an unusual move for an ongoing original series on another streamer, Season 1 of Average Joe will be made available on Netflix this summer, sources said. When the news broke during last year's San Diego Comic-Con that the Crisis on Infinite Earths comic book was being turned into a three-part animated movie, DC fans rejoiced.

The CW previously adapted the story for the Arrowverse, but this version had the opportunity to bring together countless animated characters from across the Dcau in an ambitious retelling of the story. Unfortunately, the opening two chapters have been mostly disappointing.

When we first learned that Warner Bros. Animation was developing a three-part Crisis on Infinite Earths movie, the response from fans was largely positive.

While the Tomorrowverse has been a little hit-or-miss, it's also delivered a lot of very good movies. Needless to say, the prospect of mixing DC characters from that world with so many other animated franchises was undeniably exciting.

Unfortunately, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part One and Part Two proved to be mostly underwhelming affairs, with the only noteworthy cameo being Terry McGinnis/Batman Beyond in the second instalment. As exciting as that may sound, he had no more than a couple of lines in the movie and failed to make much of an impact.

A tribe of Sasquatch, possibly the last of their kind, live and love in the woods of northern California, where it was shot.

Opening in theaters this April for everyone to watch. A strong-willed social worker at a youth prison assembles a cycling team of teenage convicts and takes them on a transformative 1000-mile ride. Inspired by the life of Greg Townsend and the Ridgeview Academy (a medium-security correctional school in Colorado) cycling team. It's the story of how these troubled young men "found another gear." Their impressive ride took them from Denver all the way to the Grand Canyon. Starring Matthew Modine as the coach, Greg, plus Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, Leslie David Baker, Jahking Guillory, Jackson Kelly, Damien Diaz, Zachary T. Robbins, with Sean Astin. This played at a number of smaller regional US film festivals last year, including the Denver Film Festival in the fall.

Blue Fox Entertainment has acquired worldwide sales on cycling drama Hard Miles starring Matthew Modine and will kick off sales talks in TIFF next week.

Sean Astin, Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, and Leslie David Baker also star in the coming-of-age sports film about a coach who must get students at a medium security correctional school to work together on a gruelling bike ride from Denver to the Grand Canyon.

Nicholl Fellow R.J. Daniel Hanna directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with producer Christian Sander. Scott Sander at Pensé Productions also served as a producer.

Harry Bosch is returning to Amazon Freevee on Oct. 20 – and he’s taking matters into his own hands to save his daughter in a new teaser for “Bosch: Legacy” Season 2.

The drama series’ second season finds Bosch (Titus Welliver) working alongside Honey “Money” Chandler (Mimi Rogers) to track down a masked assailant who kidnapped his daughter Maddie (Madison Lintz) before time runs out. But as the FBI scrutinizes Carl Rogers’ murder, Bosch and Chandler are placed under suspicion.

In the clip, Jerry Edgar (Jamie Hector) tells Bosch that he needs to let authorities do their job to find his daughter, to which he replies: “Don’t cut me out!.” He also makes clear that while the FBI has to do things the “right way,” those rules don’t apply to him.

BET Plus has a hit on its hands, and it comes in the form of Average Joe.

The intriguing dramedy has drummed up plenty of buzz, and Average Joe Season 1 is only just getting started.

One of the series' greatest strengths lies with its cast, which includes the captivating Kathrine Barnes, whose Russian assassin Arina will play a larger role as the series continues through its thrilling first effort.

Barnes was kind enough to jump on a Zoom and tell me about her character, the series at large, and many other topics.

The versatile actress was incredibly sincere with a great perspective about the series. Check this one out, TV Fanatics!

I got to check out the first couple of episodes, and I enjoyed it.

I didn't know what to expect from the trailer. I was like, "It seems like it's going to be really intense." And it was.

Comedian and actor Deon Cole is stepping into the role of leading man with the new series Average Joe, which debuted on BET+ Monday. In the dark comedy-drama, Cole portrays Joe Washington, a husband and father whose regular blue-collar life gets turned upside down after his father dies and he discovers he stole $10 million from a Russian mob boss (Pasha Lychnikoff). In some ways, Cole, too, experienced a life change when he accepted the part and found himself number one on the call sheet for the first time in his career.

“It was extremely difficult because I’ve never been a lead,” Cole said during a special preview screening of the series held at Goya Studios during BET Weekend. “I’m used to just coming in, doing my part, jumping in my car and taking off, and going to go do stand-up. That was my routine with everything I’ve ever done.

You know a good pilot when you see one.

Because a good pilot is one that makes you desperate to know what will happen next. It's really that plain and simple. And Average Joe Season 1 Episode 1 is a good pilot.

An exciting setup, intriguing characters, and dynamics will always be a recipe for success.

The premise of Average Joe is pretty basic on its surface; while mourning his father's death, the titular character discovers said father had a whole other life involving drugs, money, and an angry mob looking for their Lamborghini.

It's basic but also a lot to process, and we're going through the motions of discovery right alongside Joe, who is every bit the average man the title describes.

By all accounts, Joe is a good man. He's got a loving wife and daughter and friends that he adores. His life doesn't seem extraordinary, but it's enough to keep him happy.

BET+’s new darkly comic thriller Average Joe may or may not be better than Netflix’s Ozark — I never loved Ozark, but maybe you did and so be it — but the gap between the two shows isn’t as great as the inevitable gap in coverage would seem to suggest.

Average Joe and Ozark are both highly derivative pieces of violent, ethically twisty pulp made somewhat distinctive by their regional specificity, irritatingly washed-out cinematography and sitcom-honed leading men repressing their natural timing to play a tamped-down everyman.

Though it doesn’t yet realize aspirations that could generously be described as Jim Thompson meets August Wilson — that’s a show I would very much watch — Average Joe has the feeling of a potential breakout for BET+, though it’s impossible to know what a “breakout for BET+” would mean in this landscape.
