The third season of The Wheel of Time premieres on Prime Video next week. The show is based on Robert Jordan's beloved series of epic fantasy books, which run 14 strong. Jordan was writing them for so long that he passed away before he could finish; author Brandon Sanderson picked up the torch and wrote the final three.

The new season will mainly adapt The Shadow Rising, the fourth book in the series, although if the first two seasons are any guide it will likely pull in some elements from later books. That means the show still has a long way to go. So it's a little disturbing that The Wheel of Time still hasn't been greenlit for season 4; if showrunner Rafe Judkins wants to tell the whole story, and he does, it would behoove Prime Video to give him the green light as soon as possible.

Pike explained that this adjustment was made to better translate Rand’s internal struggles to the screen. The Prime Video series has added Emmy winner Shohreh Aghdashloo to its cast. In The Wheel of Time‘s third season, due in March, Aghdashloo (The Expanse, House of Sand and Fog) will play Elaida do Avriny a’Roihan, an important character in the fantasy novels by Robert Jordan on which the series is based.

Elaida is described as “a ruthlessly powerful Aes Sedai as proficient in politicking as she is in channeling. She has a deep history with Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) and Siuan (Sophie Okonedo), and scores to settle with both of them when she returns to the White Tower. Elaida is someone who believes in ends over means, and is willing to do anything to achieve what she envisions to be the greater good.”

The hit series, inspired by Robert Jordan‘s fantasy novel series of the same name, arrived on the streaming platform in 2021. The second season aired in late 2023.

Today, The Wheel of Time took to the famed Thunder Stage at CCXP24 to reveal a pulse-pounding teaser trailer and to announce that the show’s third season will premiere globally on Prime Video on March 13, 2025.

The Amazon-owned streamer has set a March 13 premiere date for the fantasy drama’s third season. Prime Video also released a first teaser for the coming season at São Paulo’s CCXP24 convention.

In the teaser (watch it below), Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) warns that she has seen “a thousand thousand futures” — and that there are none in which both she and Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski), the young man who may hold the future of humanity in his hands as the Dragon Reborn, survive.

We're moving another step closer to The Wheel of Time season 3 this weekend, and showrunner Rafe Judkins has a huge surprise for The Wheel of Time fans.

Well, I guess it's not much of a surprise if you tell people about it beforehand, but Judkins revealed on Instagram Stories that he'll be announcing The Wheel of Time season 3 release date during the panel at Comic-Con Experience 2024 in São Paolo, Brazil, on Saturday, Dec. 7. This shift comes after the departure of the original showrunner Rafe Judkins and his executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, who left following a change in creative direction by the studios.

Moore has just been chosen to run the writers room, executive produce, and write for the new Sony TV/Amazon MGM Studios' Prime Video series "God of War" per Deadline. For those of you who've been fans of the video game franchise that bears the same name, let's clear up a canon question right away: this new series is due to be based on the 2018 reboot version of the game, which takes its cue from Norse mythology as opposed to the original series of games published from 2005-2013, which were based on Greek mythology.

That's not to say Greek mythology is totally off the table, of course, because the 2018 game still sees the same protagonist/player character of Kratos some 150 years after 2010's "God of War III,...

God of War is finally getting a live-action adaptation after almost two decades of being stuck in development hell, and though it's in the early stages, there's plenty of news. The God of War video game series began in 2005, and follows the titular god, Kratos, who was tricked into killing his family by Ares. Kratos attempts to get revenge, but he must first battle through hoards of Olympian gods. The series cleverly mixes Greek and Norse mythology, and the franchise and lore are only getting deeper and more epic in scope with every installment.

Showrunner/executive producer Rafe Judkins, as well as fellow EPs Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, left the God of War series after completing multiple scripts for the first season. Although the scripts were praised by Sony and Amazon MGM, the studios apparently wanted to move in a different creative direction.

God of War is the latest first-party franchise under the PlayStation Studios banner to receive the live-action treatment in partnership with Amazon Prime Video. Studio executives praised the scripts penned by the original showrunners; unfortunately, their hard work has now been wasted and the company decided to move in a different direction.

While it is unfortunate to see what could have been worthwhile and quality content shelved or scrapped, perhaps the decision to start from scratch is an opportunity to improve. Adapting one of the most popular video game franchises of recent years can be challenging, and the executives must have their reasons behind the decision to restart.
