The third season of The Wheel of Time premieres on Prime Video next week. The show is based on Robert Jordan's beloved series of epic fantasy books, which run 14 strong. Jordan was writing them for so long that he passed away before he could finish; author Brandon Sanderson picked up the torch and wrote the final three.
The new season will mainly adapt The Shadow Rising, the fourth book in the series, although if the first two seasons are any guide it will likely pull in some elements from later books. That means the show still has a long way to go. So it's a little disturbing that The Wheel of Time still hasn't been greenlit for season 4; if showrunner Rafe Judkins wants to tell the whole story, and he does, it would behoove Prime Video to give him the green light as soon as possible.

The third season of The Wheel of Time will air soon on Prime Video. So far, it's looking terrific. Trailer? Epic. First 11 minutes? Fire. Source material? Best in show. The runway is set for this epic fantasy series to take off.
There are 14 books in The Wheel of Time book series, and the TV show has had to make some cuts as the story transitions from page to screen. In general, I think showrunner Rafe Judkins has made smart choices when it comes to picking what to cut and streamline; he's clearly a fan who's keeping the long game in mind.
For instance, at this point in the book series, lead character Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski) should make his way towards a fortress called the Stone of Tear, where he lays claim to a legendary sword called Callandor. That happens at the end of the third book in the series,...

Another #WOTWednesday, another epic piece of content from The Wheel of Time. This week, TV Insider is unveiling your exclusive first look at Prime Video‘s expansive key-art banner featuring most (not all!) of the key players for Season 3. And it’s a lineup worthy of the Age of Legends! First up, we have Mat (Dónal Finn) and the White Tower crowd — trainees Nynaeve (Zoë Robins) and Elayne (Ceara Coveney), recruited seer Min Farshaw (Kae Alexander), and Aes Sedai “Mother,” Siuan (Sophie Okonedo). And if you’ve seen the intense opening minutes of the season opener that dropped last week, you know a major mess is about to go down inside the Aes Sedai’s stronghold. The no-spells-barred battle between the Amyrlin Seat and Kate Fleetwood‘s traitorous Black Ajah, Liandrin (on the far right of the image), sets the stage for a ton of story, previews showrunner Rafe Judkins.

Rosamund Pike has confirmed that The Wheel of Time Season 3 will make some changes to the book’s storyline, specifically delaying Rand al’Thor’s journey to the Stone of Tear. The new season, set to premiere on March 13, 2025, will follow Rand (Josha Stradowski) as he travels to the Aiel Waste before retrieving Callandor.
Pike explained that this adjustment was made to better translate Rand’s internal struggles to the screen. Instead of heading straight to the Stone of Tear, the show will send Rand into the Aiel Waste first, allowing him to discover his heritage and identity before obtaining the powerful sa’angreal. While the Stone of Tear remains an important part of the story, its placement has been shifted to better fit the TV adaptation.
“We haven’t neglected the Stone of Tear, we’ve just rearranged the order. There’ll be debate about it, but instead of Rand,...

The upcoming third season of The Wheel of Time is based on The Shadow Rising, considered by fans to be one of the best books in author Robert Jordan's epic fantasy series. This season, Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski) will travel to the Aiel Waste to try and win over the war-like Aiel people to his side. Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) will go with him. They're make separate journeys to Rhuidean, a sacred city where many truths will be revealed. Rand's time there is a highlight from The Shadow Rising. And while the books only tell us that Moiraine made a pilgrimage there, the series will show us what she sees.
Looking at the trailer for the new season, the Rhuidean sequence looks wild beyond words. And when we spoke to Josha Stradowski and Rosamund Pike about the sequence, they could barely contain their excitement. "Oh, we long to talk about Rhuidean,...

Next month, the fantasy television series The Wheel of Time will return for its third season on Prime Video. The Wheel of Time made a name for itself as one of the biggest shows in the genre, thanks in no small part to the fact that it is adapting one of the most famous fantasy sagas of all time. But with its upcoming third season, the show will reach for even more ambitious heights. Season 3 is based on the novel The Shadow Rising, a beloved entry in Robert Jordan's book series which sees Rand al'Thor head out to the desert homeland of the Aiel people in hopes of winning their allegiance. It's a major turning point for the series, and it could be a major turning point for the TV show.
At the heart of it all is Rand, the reincarnated hero known as the Dragon Reborn, who is played by Josha Stradowski.

Last summer, fantasy fans were treated to a veritable feast of genre epics as both HBO's House Of The Dragon and Prime Video's The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power both returned to our screens for triumphant second seasons. But as we wait for the conflicts between House Green and Black — and the precariously allied forces of Middle-earth and the Dark Lord Sauron — to continue, fans of magic, prophecy, politicking, and other such speculative fiction shenanigans aren't being left high and dry by any means. This March will see Amazon's ambitious adaptation of Robert Jordan's sprawling Wheel Of Time continue with the release of the long-anticipated Season 3. And if the first trailer for the latest run of episodes is anything to go by, then it looks like trouble's a-brewing in the Westlands. Check it out below:

Rafe Judkins has the unenviable task of bringing Robert Jordan's epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time to the small screen. Long before this incredible opportunity became available, Judkins was a contestant on Survivor, the long-running reality show where contestants try to outlast each other on a desert island, with someone being voted out at the end of each episode.
Judkins is trying to condense a massive 14-book series into a television show. It is a huge undertaking, but Judkins has shown toughness and resiliency before. In 2005, he was a contestant on Survivor: Guatemala. This was a landmark season for the reality show. That season, the show's 11th, was the first to introduce an immunity idol. The season also featured former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Gary Hogeboom plus two returning favorites: Stephenie Lagrossa and Bobby Jon Drinkard. Other players that season included Judd Sergeant and Jamie Newton.

The Wheel of Time season 3 adds five new book characters to its ensemble, including important Aiel figures. Adapted for television by executive producer and showrunner Rafe Judkins, and based on the novels by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time season 3 debuts globally on Prime Video on March 13 and will continue to examine the possibility that Rand (Josha Stradowski) could be corrupted by power. The upcoming episodes may be just as notable, though, for the number of new additions to the high-profile fantasy series.

Tom Holland is a huge name in the industry right now. Though he has been acting since he was a child, he has shot up in fame since making his debut as everyone's favorite webslinger in Spider-Man: Homecoming back in 2017. Since then, the MCU has become the pinnacle of Holland's career. Three of these movies have made it into the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time at the worldwide box office, including Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Despite his success in the MCU, Holland's other films have often struggled to gain significant traction. His YA adaptation series attempt with Chaos Walking, for example, was a massive flop and did not get a sequel. He also teamed up with Avengers co-star Robert Downey Jr. in the 2020 film Dolittle, which underperformed at the box office, making $251.4 million on an estimated $175 million budget. The Wheel of Time season 3 trailer is already signaling the death of Queen Morgase, a major character whose TV show debut hasn't even happened yet. The queen of Andor and the mother of Elayne Trakand, Morgase is one of the biggest characters in The Wheel of Time books yet to appear in Prime Video's live-action adaptation. But the further the show gets into the book story, the more likely it is that Morgase finally gets involved in the narrative.
Season 2 notably name-dropped the queen, whose role in the political landscape of The Wheel of Time's world makes her especially relevant to the bigger picture. Not only that, but she factors heavily into the storylines ahead. For that reason, it has long been speculated that The Wheel of Time season 3 will be where Morgase - and perhaps the rest of Elayne's family - finally joins the fold. But if...

Over the weekend, Prime Video revealed the first trailer for the third season of The Wheel of Time, its fantasy show based on the book series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson. Over the course of its first two seasons, The Wheel of Time has consistently improved and delved deep into its source material to create a vivid fantasy world onscreen. But if this trailer is any indicator, we ain't seen nothing yet.
At the heart of The Wheel of Time is a young man named Rand al'Thor who discovers he's a prophesied figure named the Dragon Reborn who is destined to fight against the forces of the Dark One. The first two seasons were largely about Rand coming to grips with this weighty destiny as his friends and allies grappled with their own divergent paths. For more than a year, rumors have swirled that Shohreh Aghdashloo, the actor who played foul-mouthed politician Crisjen Avasarala for six seasons on The Expanse, was joining the cast of Prime Video's fantasy show The Wheel of Time in a major role. Now at last, we have confirmation from the source itself. The official Wheel of Time X account announced today that Aghdashloo will play Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan, an Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah who is one of the key figures at the White Tower in Robert Jordan's book series.
"The whispers are true. Shohreh Aghdashloo is officially an Aes Sedai," they wrote, captioning a picture which reads "Shohreh Aghdashloo is Elaida in The Wheel of Time" over a picture of the Iranian-American actor.

The Wheel of Time is bringing a key character from its source material to the screen.
The Prime Video series has added Emmy winner Shohreh Aghdashloo to its cast. In The Wheel of Time‘s third season, due in March, Aghdashloo (The Expanse, House of Sand and Fog) will play Elaida do Avriny a’Roihan, an important character in the fantasy novels by Robert Jordan on which the series is based.
Elaida is described as “a ruthlessly powerful Aes Sedai as proficient in politicking as she is in channeling. She has a deep history with Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) and Siuan (Sophie Okonedo), and scores to settle with both of them when she returns to the White Tower. Elaida is someone who believes in ends over means, and is willing to do anything to achieve what she envisions to be the greater good.”

Based on the beloved Dungeons & Dragons campaign from the Critical Role web series, Amazon Prime's The Legend of Vox Machina has blossomed into much more than the creators could have imagined. Though it still pays tribute to the original campaigns and incorporates the best parts of the role-playing game, The Legend of Vox Machina has become a fully-fledged series, creating complex characters and development that the audience has witnessed grow over the past few seasons. As the show progresses, it will likely be remembered as one of the best animated series of the past few years.

Amazon Prime Video's upcoming live-action adaptation of God of War could make a huge mistake by choosing to start with the wrong part of Kratos' story. Every game in the God of War franchise can essentially be split into two eras: the Greek era, which is when the original games that follow Kratos as he attacks the Greek pantheon are set, and the Norse era, when the newest games that follow Kratos and his son, Atreus, are set. Now that Amazon Prime Video is making a live-action God of War show, it has to decide which era to focus on, which could present a major problem.

With the success of recent TV adaptations of popular video game franchises — none more notable than HBO’s The Last of Us and Amazon Prime’s Fallout — studios everywhere are looking for more titles to transform from interactive entertainment into the strictly viewable kind. In spite of their success with Fallout, however, Amazon appears to be struggling with their other major video game adaptation: God of War.

God of War's original showrunner, Rafe Judkins, previously stepped away from the live-action God of War adaptation, as did executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus.
Deadline has now confirmed that Moore will be the showrunner, writer, and executive producer for Prime Video's God of War. This is his first major new project since returning to Sony Pictures Television via a new multi-year deal with the studio in June. Moore previously worked with Sony on Outlander and For All Mankind, with both series becoming hits and continuing to strive on their streaming platforms, and now expanding...

Grab your Leviathan Axe and cue up the music of Bear McCreary, because "Star Trek" and "Battlestar Galactica" veteran writer and showrunner Ronald D. Moore has just been chosen to run the writers room, executive produce, and write for the new Sony TV/Amazon MGM Studios' Prime Video series "God of War" per Deadline. For those of you who've been fans of the video game franchise that bears the same name, let's clear up a canon question right away: this new series is due to be based on the 2018 reboot version of the game, which takes its cue from Norse mythology as opposed to the original series of games published from 2005-2013, which were based on Greek mythology.
That's not to say Greek mythology is totally off the table, of course, because the 2018 game still sees the same protagonist/player character of Kratos some 150 years after 2010's "God of War III,...

God of War is finally getting a live-action adaptation after almost two decades of being stuck in development hell, and though it's in the early stages, there's plenty of news. The God of War video game series began in 2005, and follows the titular god, Kratos, who was tricked into killing his family by Ares. Kratos attempts to get revenge, but he must first battle through hoards of Olympian gods. The series cleverly mixes Greek and Norse mythology, and the franchise and lore are only getting deeper and more epic in scope with every installment.
While concrete details are few and far between when it comes to the live-action God of War cast and story, there has at least been news about who isn't playing Kratos. Producers have also promised that the series will be faithful to the source material too. It will be a long time before a live-action God of War trailer arrives,...

The God of War TV series is back on track. It was announced last week that the original creative team behind the Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios series had departed, but Deadline now reports that Ronald D. Moore has stepped up as writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
Moore has plenty of TV experience. He’s best known for his work in the Star Trek franchise and for developing acclaimed series such as Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, and For All Mankind. The exit of the original creative team came as a shock, especially as so much work had already been done. Showrunner/executive producer Rafe Judkins, as well as fellow EPs Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, left the God of War series after completing multiple scripts for the first season. Although the scripts were praised by Sony and Amazon MGM, the studios apparently wanted to move in a different creative direction.

God of War is the latest first-party franchise under the PlayStation Studios banner to receive the live-action treatment in partnership with Amazon Prime Video. Studio executives praised the scripts penned by the original showrunners; unfortunately, their hard work has now been wasted and the company decided to move in a different direction.
While it is unfortunate to see what could have been worthwhile and quality content shelved or scrapped, perhaps the decision to start from scratch is an opportunity to improve. Adapting one of the most popular video game franchises of recent years can be challenging, and the executives must have their reasons behind the decision to restart.
