Douglas Costa, born in Brazil, embarked on a remarkable journey that led him to become a prominent figure in the international film and advertising industry. In the year 2000, he relocated to France to pursue a Master's degree in Semiotics at Sorbonne University, with a specific focus on the impact of advertising and music videos on feature films. This move marked the beginning of his extraordinary career.
While studying in France, Douglas Costa's aspiration to work with his idol, Michel Gondry, led him to undertake an internship at Partizan Midi Minuit. Serendipitously, his talent was quickly recognized by Executive Producer Georges Bermann, who offered him a position after just a few weeks. This marked the start of Douglas's journey as an Executive Producer Assistant during a time when directors like Alex & Martin, Antoine Bardou-Jacquet, Eric Coignoux, Jim Hosking, Quentin Dupieux, Chris Robinson, Traktor, Nº6, and many others were at the peak of their careers.
This period was defined by an exceptional production team collaborating on a multitude of groundbreaking projects. Notable works included "Seven Nation Army," "U2 Vertigo," "Honda Cog," "Peugeot 1007," Director's DVDs, "Eternal Sunshine," "Phoenix," "Sebastien Tellier," "Feist," "Air," "Daft Punk," "Kavinsky," and various French Touch bands. In 2003, their outstanding efforts culminated in the prestigious Palm D'Or award for the Best Production Company at the Cannes Lions Festival. Douglas Costa expressed his excitement and gratitude for the invaluable experience gained during this time.
Inspired by his work on "The Science of Sleep" in 2006 and witnessing his name in the credits of a movie directed by his early idol, Douglas decided to transition into directing. He subsequently created numerous DVDs and music videos for the Brazilian market, collaborating with artists such as Chico César, Ray Lema, Maria Bethania, Chico Buarque, Maria Paula, Brothers of Brazil, Hamilton de Holanda, Dominguinhos, Mariana Aydar, Céu, Thalma de Freitas, Lecy Brandão, Roberta Sá, Quinteto da Paraiba, Ana Carolina, Lanny Gordin, Zeca Pagodinho, alongside fashion films and photography for Punta Magazine at Leo Burnett Lapiz Chicago.
In 2009, Douglas returned to Brazil and began working as a Creative Producer for the Emmy Award-winning TV show, CQC, marking his first foray into television. He was subsequently recruited by Experienced Producer Paulo Dantas, who introduced him to the Brazilian advertising and cinema market. Fluent in multiple languages, Douglas expanded his horizons by working with the international market from Brazil, pioneering the introduction of an international production company flag.
In 2012, Partizan Brazil emerged, quickly gaining recognition through successful campaigns like "Brahma Imagina Na Copa" and "Peugeot Wacky Racers." In 2013, as a partner in Vetor Zero International, Douglas brought renowned director Spike Lee to Brazil to collaborate on a music video for Seu Jorge during the World Cup, sparking a fruitful partnership. This friendship led to the founding of "Taking Over NY" in 2018, with Douglas inviting Spike Lee and Martin Fougerol for their inaugural project-a Big Budweiser Campaign that ultimately contributed to the establishment of the Jackie Robinson Museum in New York City.
Today, Douglas Costa operates on an international scale as an Executive Producer and oversees "Taking Over NY" and the Partizan Latam house based in São Paulo. He works with an impressive array of brands, including Budweiser, Nike, Heineken, McDonald's, Land Rover, Nestlé, Coca Cola, Unilever, Mattel, P&G, L'Oréal, Peugeot, Renault, Orange, Google, Honda, AOC, and many others.
With numerous feature films, series, and documentaries in progress, Douglas's next venture includes a docu-series about diversity featuring J.Lo's nephew, Brendon Scholl, and the renowned transgender actor, Ian Alexander, known for their role in the series "The OA." His contributions have garnered acclaim from esteemed organizations such as the Academy, Cannes, The Emmys, The Grammy Awards, Clio Awards, BAFTA, and many more, solidifying his status as a trailblazer in the industry.
