After a two-year wait, The Recruit season 2 just premiered on Netflix on Jan. 30. I binge-watched the new season in just a few days, and now, I'm ready for the next spy show to check out next. I bet you are, too!
If you're looking for a new show like The Recruit to watch right now, you're in luck. I shared a list of four good spy shows to watch while we wait to find out if The Recruit is renewed for season 3. The good news is that Netflix has a bunch of new spy and political thrillers to watch right now. We've seen at least four released on Netflix in as many months, not including The Recruit. That streak of new thrillers continues in February with Zero Day starring Robert De Niro coming to Netflix on Feb. 20.

One of the coolest and most beloved sub-genres for thriller, action, and drama fans is the spy genre, and there’s a good reason. In a spy film or series, we get complicated and cool characters who put their lives on the line by going against numerous people, and instead of always letting their guns talk, they use more covert tactics, which are always thrilling to watch. So, Prime Video being what it is, it has a large library of content, and also some of the best spy shows you can find, and that’s what inspired us to compile a list of the best spy shows you can watch on Prime Video right now.

Years after the first season of the BBC spy drama The Night Manager aired, season 2 was officially announced with Tom Hiddleston returning. Based on the book by MI6 intelligence officer turned novelist John le Carré, The Night Manager was adapted for the small screen by Hanna creator David Farr and directed by Bird Box helmer Susanne Bier. The series brought together some of Britain’s finest acting talents with Tom Hiddleston playing Jonathan Pine, a luxury hotel night manager and former soldier who is roped into infiltrating arms dealer Richard Roper’s (Hugh Laurie) inner circle.
The first season of The Night Manager received widespread critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic and the series went on to win three Golden Globes, two Emmys, and three BAFTAs. Although the first season covered almost all of John le Carré’s novel, the success of The Night Manager left viewers wanting more.

If you're looking for a high-concept, mysterious sci-fi show in the vein of "Under the Dome," "From," or "Manifest," Stephen King has a recommendation for you. The master of horror has always loved sharing recommendations for spooky genre offerings on social media, and this week he took to Threads (he left the cesspool formerly known as Twitter in November) to highlight the UK-made series "The Midwich Cuckoos."
"The Midwich Cuckoos (Amazon): Surprised there hasn't been more talk about this," King recently posted on Threads. "It's a brilliant re-imagining of John Wyndham's classic sci-fi/horror novel." The title of one of Wyndam's best-known novels may not sound familiar to you, but the name of its earlier film adaptation might: "The Midwich Cuckoos" became "Village of the Damned" when Wolf Rilla adapted it in 1960. That version of the story is considered an all-time-great horror movie, alternately dubbed as an "excellent...

Stephen King praises a sci-fi adaptation of a classic sci-fi horror, which flew under the radar when it was first released. As the year comes to a close, the seminal author has shared some of his TV favorites. They've varied from the Jamie Dornan crime thriller The Tourist to the short-lived Apple TV+ series Constellation. But several of his recommendations tended to have one thing in common.
Whether it was the straightforward horrors of shows like Evil or Teacup or the more subdued unease of a drama like the Billy Crystal-led Before, several of King's TV notables tend to revolve around unsettling situations that would not seem at all out of place in some of his most famous novels. The author's latest recommendation follows along those lines.

Olivia Colman is among the cast returning for series 2 of The Night Manager, and here are the details.
Back in 2018, The Night Manager was a huge hit for the BBC, winning 36 awards including two Emmys, a BAFTA and several Golden Globes.
Adapted from the 1993 novel by John Le Carre, the show followed Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), the night manager of a high class hotel in Cairo, who is recruited by Angela Burr (Olivia Colman), the manager of a Foreign Office task force, to infiltrate the inner circle of sinister arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie).
It was a glossy, big budget production, and writer David Farr expertly crafted Le Carre’s twisty plot into six exhilarating hours of drama.
Earlier this year, the BBC confirmed that two more series have been commissioned and will be filmed back to back, presumably owing to Hiddleston’s busy schedule. Farr returned to write the scripts,...

More than thirteen months have gone by since we heard that a second season of the Prime Video and the BBC series The Night Manager was in the works, being developed under the codename of Steelworks. The Night Manager has been renewed for two seasons after an eight-year hiatus, reversing one of the biggest disappointments of Tom Hiddleston's career. The first season, although highly praised, was underrated and almost forgotten. Tom Hiddleston is returning as Jonathan Pine in The Night Manager season 2, with Hugh Laurie joining him in producing the upcoming seasons.
In a surprising turn of events, The Night Manager has been renewed eight years following the season 1 finale, effectively making up for one of the most upsetting aspects of Tom Hiddleston's lengthy acting career. The BBC spy thriller series, directed by Susanne Bier and written by David Farr, premiered in 2016 and consisted of six episodes, enthralling from beginning to end. The Night Manager is based on John le Carré's 1993 book, and it centers around Hiddleston's character, Jonathan Pine, the night manager of a Cairo hotel who is recruited to get close to the arms dealer Richard Roper.

Tom Hiddleston seems to be on a roll when it comes to the small screen as the popular series The Night Manager recently got renewed for two more seasons. Based on the novel by John le Carré, the BBC series first aired in 2016 and co-starred Hugh Laurie. The show received acclaim from critics and audiences, with Hiddleston even winning a Golden Globe.
Hiddleston was last seen as Loki in the Disney Plus show Loki, which saw its second season. The second and third seasons of The Night Manager reportedly took a long time as they were working on the story with the late writer le Carré and his estate. The renewal of the show eight years after its first season gave many Sherlock fans hopes for a fifth season.

Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as Jonathan Pine in two further series of The Night Manager, based on characters created by John Le Carre.

Fans of The Night Manager, your patience is being rewarded in a major way. When the Tom Hiddleston-starring miniseries adaptation of John Le Carré’s espionage novel hit screens in early 2016, it quickly became a huge mainstream hit – thrilling viewers with its twists and turns, cementing Hiddleston’s on-screen cool factor, and providing another great screen version of Le Carré to sit alongside Tinker Tailor and A Most Wanted Man. But, understandably, people wanted more – and there was considerable chatter about whether there may or may not be more series on the way. Ultimately, nothing ever came to fruition.
Until now. As reported by Deadline, all these years later The Night Manager will indeed be back – and the show is confirmed for not one but two more seasons at least, with Tom Hiddleston returning to star as Jonathan Pine as well as executive-producing. Season 2 is set to film later this year,...

As the therapist in filmmaker Charlotte Hamblin’s quirky, offbeat dark comedy Everybody Dies…Sometimes tells us, that the only inevitability in life is death. A stark and not so comforting fact for the film’s protagonist Mara, who is struggling with the long-held belief, well supported by her tragic history, that she’ll cause the demise of anyone she gets close to. Everybody Dies…Sometimes is an oddly joyous and buoyant take on that existential doom we all face, which flashes through a series of truly funny fatal scenarios experienced by those prematurely taken from Mara’s life. Writer/Director Hamblin draws from her own lamentable over-familiarity with death in this semi-autobiographical directorial debut in which the established screenwriter’s script, coupled with Tanya Reynolds’ (Sex Education) and Mathew Horne’s (Gavin & Stacey) perfectly deadpan delivery and the film’s colourful visuals, turn the spectre of death into something to poke fun at.

The Night Manager, the famous spy thriller novel, has so far had two adaptations. The British show, adapted for the screen by David Farr and directed by Sussane Bier, took the audience through the world of arms deals, civil unrest, and the politics of the Middle East and North Africa and how British intelligence was indirectly involved in them. In the Hindi adaptation, created by Sandeep Modi and written by Shridhar Raghavan, the setting was altered to reflect the politics of the Indian sub-continent and how intelligence messes with the domestic matters of neighboring countries for the national interest.
What makes both shows similar and unique is the treatment of the spy thriller, where a regular hotel employee or ex-military officer turns into an intelligence agent for his country. The protagonist wants to bring down the man who is responsible for the murder of a woman he was trying to...

It has been seven years since Tom Hiddleston starred as soldier-turned-hotel-manager-turned intelligence asset Jonathan Pine in John le Carré adaptation The Night Manager. He's finally headed back to that role in a new season of the show.
Yes, in the increasing trend of limited series getting new seasons, David Farr is back writing a new season, which will be a co-production of the BBC and Amazon this time (the first run was a collaboration between the Beeb and AMC in the States).
As for the story? Following British arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie) being taken away by the Syrians at the end of Season 1, Hiddleston’s Pine is informed he is dead two years later, and he has to face up to a new, even more deadly challenge.
This may even lead to a Season 3, but for now the second will shoot later this year in London and South Africa.
Yes, in the increasing trend of limited series getting new seasons, David Farr is back writing a new season, which will be a co-production of the BBC and Amazon this time (the first run was a collaboration between the Beeb and AMC in the States).
