Nina Irina Roerig is a filmmaker whose work has been appreciated by a number of film festivals.
She grew up in an artists' family in 1980s Munich. Her mother was a painter; her grandparents were opera singers; and her father worked in theater. Thus, as a child, she would already write screenplays and choreograph dances. Trained in classical dance, she mostly worked as a contemporary dancer and choreographer.
Young Roerig spent several months in Lviv, Ukraine. This trip following the collapse of the Soviet Union changed her. Despite all the hardships, the profound humanity she encountered there would shape all of her future work. Since then, the connection between countries, particularly between East and West, has been a central theme and source of motivation for Roerig's various creative outlets.
Based in Berlin, she started out as a theater maker before transitioning to filmmaking, directing, and writing in 2002, followed by producing in 2012. In 2018, she founded the film production company Der blaue Vogel Berlin Film.
Roerig lives in Berlin with her two children, where she continues to work on her ongoing creative projects.
