Disney has dropped the teaser trailer for Pixar’s sci-fi comedy, “Elio”. It’s a celestial coming-of-age adventure with eye-popping intergalactic aliens and phosphorescent-looking environments. It’s about 11-year-old Elio (Yonas Kibreab), a one-eyed, alien-obsessed social misfit, who beams up to an inter-planetary paradise, where he gets mistaken as Earth’s leader. He has a blast forming new bonds while navigating an intergalactic crisis without being found out.

“Elio” is produced by Mary Alice Drumm (associate producer of “Coco”) and directed by Madeline Sharafian (the “Burrow” short) and Domee Shi (“Turning Red”), who replaced Adrian Molina (“Coco” co-director) mid-production.

“Elio” was to mark Molina’s directorial debut and was a personal story. But story problems ensued, and the original release was delayed until June 13, 2025, in part because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. This marked the first time that Pete Docter, Pixar’s chief creative officer, had to replace a director during his tenure.

Walt Disney Studios held the 2024 D23 Expo in Anaheim, Calif., hyping fans with what the company has to offer over the next few months.

During the event, the company unveiled the official trailer for Agatha All Along and presented its lead star, Kathryn Hahn, who performed "The Ballad of Witches' Road" alongside other cast members, including Aubrey Plaza, Ali Ahn, Debra Jo Rupp, Patti LuPone, Joe Locke and Sasheer Zamata.

The series, which premieres on Disney+ on September 18, follows the events that happened on WandaVision.

The outer space adventure, which was announced in 2022 at D23, was initially directed by Adrian Molina, the co-writer and co-director of “Coco.” But the project is now being steered by Domee Shi, director of “Turning Red,” and Madeline Sharafian, who made the 2020 short film “Burrow”. TheWrap spoke to Pete Docter, chief creative officer of Pixar, about what happened on the road to “Elio.”

What’s Good: The movie feels like a fresh offering for both the Christmas movie and superhero genres.

What’s Bad: While the characters are fun, they don’t have much of the characteristics that make Batman and Robin household names.

Loo Break: The film clocks around 90 minutes, but there could be a couple of places that feel redundant.

Watch or Not?: This is a good choice for Batman fans to watch during this holiday season, even if this Batman might feel a bit unfamiliar.

I love it when a Batman-centric project arrives animated and has a stylized design. Such is the case with Warner Bros. Animation’s family holiday movie Merry Little Batman, which takes the Caped Crusader and his son Damian Wayne and gives them an illustrative, Ron Searle-inspired coat of paint.

As if Prime Video hasn’t cornered the market enough regarding stellar superhero content, their acquisition of Merry Little Batman, along with a ton of other Batman-related projects, including the Bruce Timm/Matt Reeves/J.J. Abrams animated series Batman: Caped Crusader, from Warner Bros. Discovery, adds just a bit of power to the streamer’s greatness. One Zaslav’s trash is another studio’s treasure. The funniest part is that this is the best DC movie Warner Bros. didn’t even distribute this year. Ain’t that a killer joke?

Here’s a new streaming flick that’s perfect for the season and answers a question that’s probably on the minds of many youngsters: do my favorite superheroes get to celebrate the holiday? I mean do the ‘super-baddies” give them a day off? Those queries have been explored in many animated TV shows and in the comic book source materials (the rival comics companies would usually publish a “Christmas with the Superheroes” annual special edition). So a feature-length “jolly romp” is well overdue. So, will Christmas Eve lighten up the Dark Knight? Especially if there’s a junior caped crusader in the mix (and we’re not talking about the “boy wonder”). Hey, who’s that swinging over the roofs of Gotham City? It’s none other than a Merry Little Batman.

Fatherhood apparently has a way of slowing you down. Take Batman, for instance. He’s clearly not at his fittest in this new Amazon Prime animated film, in which he looks more like a burly lumberjack than a superhero, wearing dad jeans, a flannel shirt and a heavy beard. Fortunately, he’s not the hero tasked with saving Gotham City yet again in the Yuletide-set Merry Little Batman. That would be Damian, his eight-year-old son, who clearly takes after his old man when it comes to fighting supervillains.

Damian (voiced by Yonas Kibreab) displays the typical energy of a pre-adolescent, chasing his cat around the expansive confines of Wayne Manor as if they were in a Tom and Jerry cartoon. His father Bruce (Luke Wilson) is essentially retired, having gotten rid of all crime in Gotham City. But he’s still on call, meaning that when he gets a message...

There’s no place like Prime Video for the holidays! The streamer is celebrating the holiday season from the jump, ringing in the holiday season with “Candy Cane Lane,” starring Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross, and continuing with a collection of rom-coms and animated specials, such as the DC Comics special “Merry Little Batman.”

Throughout December, Prime Video will also make way for dozens of classic and original films and series, including the sophomore seasons of “Reacher” and “Coach Prime,” the complete “7th Heaven,” and multiple entries into the original “Star Trek” film series.
