Miriam Nyarko
- Actress
Miriam Nyarko is a BAFTA-nominated young and upcoming, London-based actress/r&b singer-songwriter with an extensive amount of both Film, TV and Theatre credits. She has featured in multiple West End and nationwide musicals and theatre productions, as well as acting in Marvel projects and Tribecca-award-winning short films.
Since an early age, Miriam has radiated an interest in both singing and acting, as well as being an exceptional dancer. She made her West End debut as 'Young Nala' in The Lion King and has since featured in many musicals since, including the RSC's Matilda the Musical and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Miriam isn't just musical, however, and she showed this through her exquisite portrayal of Rebecca Gibbs in an adaptation of 'Our Town' which played at the Regents Open Air Theatre in 2019.
Currently, Miriam is performing in a sold-out run of Hadestown at The Lyric Theatre in London's West End. The extremely well-renowned musical transferred from Broadway last year, and Nyarko understudies the lead, Eurydice, as well as being a swing.
After many theatre credits, in 2019, Miriam made her recurring TV debut as 'Miri' in CBBC's 'Almost Never' (one of the platform's most-watched shows ever). Miriam has described her character as 'bubbly and someone who always has a smile on her face'. The show follows the rivalry of two bands as they compete to release music and head to #1 on the UK music charts. It has featured stars such as JLS' Aston Merrygold, The Pussycat Dolls' Kimberly Wyatt & Love Island's Amber Davies. Miriam was a series regular in the critically acclaimed show for the 3 seasons, which can be streamed on BBC iPlayer (UK) and Disney Channel (US). Soon after, in the summer of 2021, Miriam was flown out to Budapest where she filmed extensively for Marvel Studios' Emmy-nominated television show Moon Knight, starring Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke.
In 2022, Miriam went to Scotland to mark her film debut Eubha Akilade's 'Blackwool', which was released in 2023. It had its world premiere at the TriBeca Film Festival in New York and has recently been nominated for Best Short Film at the BAFTAs, which will take later this year. Miriam garnered critical acclaim for her earnest, fragile and desperately heartbreaking performance in the film, which can be streamed on Vimeo.
From the summer of 2019 through to the beginning of 2020, she worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company (for the second time) to portray Lisa as part of the Original Cast of The Boy in the Dress: The Musical - with music and lyrics by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers, as well as an adaptation by Mark Ravenhill. Miriam played the fashionable and popular Lisa James in the World Premiere of the musical in the world-renowned RSC Theatre, in Stratford-Upon-Avon.
In 2021, Miriam was cast in The Royal Shakespeare Company's - 'The Magician's Elephant', an original musical. Miriam's character, Adele the Brave, will mark her third outing with the theatre company and her second as the original cast of a musical. She will reunite with director Sarah Tipple and star alongside Jack Wolfe and Forbes Masson. The musical is adapted from the book by Kate DiCamillo.
As well as her acting credits, Miriam is also an R&B singer/songwriter who released her first single in 2023 and continues to work passionately on her music career (whilst balancing her presence in the acting world). Her debut EP entitled 'The Journey', a profound, introspective and reflective dissertation on Nyarko's faith, grief and life was released in October of last year and is available to stream everywhere now.
Whilst balancing all of her extensive talents and extra-curricular activities, Miriam is also active on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube where she can be seen posting regular vlogs, Q&A's and exclusive Behind-The-Scenes content (her social media platforms are linked below).
