It was difficult picking the five best comic books of the week. For example, Aliens Vs. Avengers No. 2 was phenomenal, adding to the Alien movie lore that fans loved, along with some tragic moments and well-known Marvel Comics characters. There was also Kelly Thompson’s Birds of Prey which continues to be a must-read series. Nevertheless, I had to break it down to the top five.

Let’s start with the pick of the week (another tough selection).

It's been an interesting year for movies. Some big-budget franchises staged the comeback they needed to make while other studios unveiled long-awaited sequels that made box-office history. There were also some surprises, overperforming in certain markets and outdoing all expectations to bring their own franchises back to their glory days. And then there were the disappointing ones that struggled out of the gate and didn't quite make the mark they needed to.

Yes, 2024 had it all at the movies. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was probably the biggest surprise, outperforming expectations to deliver the MonsterVerse's best performance ever five movies in. Deadpool and Wolverine brought the Marvel Cinematic Universe back to its billion-dollar glory days, all while bringing Hugh Jackman's Logan and Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson into the MCU franchise for the first time. And then there is Disney's Inside Out 2, which has gone on to...

The Bam Smack Pow comic book fighting tournament continues. So far we’ve seen some upsets like No. 1 ranked Superman losing to No. 16 Doctor Strange during round 1 of the superheroes bracket. However, on the villains' side, Homelander lost to Doomsday. The only shocking part is Homelander getting votes.

The next bracket was the superhero fighters. Things were more balanced this time. Here are the results

Sony’s long-in-the-works “suite” of TV series based on Marvel characters controlled by the studio is getting closer to reality.

I hear Sony is in talks with Amazon to be the SVOD distributor of the high-profile package of shows, which includes multiple titles. The first, which was identified by Sony Pictures TV about a year ago and had been in development at the studio, is Silk. Lauren Moon, a writer on Sony TV’s Netflix series Atypical, wrote the TV adaptation based on the Korean-American comic book superhero, created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos. Silk would mark one of the first comic book series led by an Asian-American character.

Sources close to the situation cautioned that the complex talks are still in early stages and there are major issues that need to be resolved. Some of them have to do with a complicated web of multi-platform rights for the various characters.

While the film’s stars and director were dropping some exclusive “Birds of Prey” footage on Comic Con Experience Brazil, the film’s official twitter account shared some brand new character posters that are as whimsical as they are examples of movie marketing.

Painted in bright, friendly colors, the posters feature Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Huntress, Renee Montoya, Cassandra Cain, Black Mask and Victor Zsasz, along with some wacky visual elements emphasizing the DC Comics film universe’s recent turn away from unrelenting grimness. Come for the flying roller skates, stay for the floating hot dogs, psychedelic eyes and purple boa-infused brass knuckles.

Preview night of Ccxp in Sao Paulo ended with a peek at the Warner Bros. forthcoming team-up pic Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) — or as they call it in Brazil, Aves De Rapina (Arlequina E Sua Emancipacao Fantabulosa). Harley Quinn herself, Margot Robbie and her fellow “birds” Huntress (Mary Elisabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) as well as director Cathy Yan flew onto the dais at the Sao Paulo Expo to a hyped crowd injected with Edm music armed with Harley Quinn inflatable mallets.

After skipping San Diego Comic-Con entirely back in July, Warner Bros. brought its upcoming slate of DC Comics films to Comic-Con Experience Brazil 2019, starting Thursday night with a panel focused on “Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn).”

And along with appearances by stars Margot Robbie, Rosie Perez, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and Ella Jay Basco, plus director Cathy Yan, the packed auditorium was treated to exclusive new footage, including the film’s opening scene, and a new trailer featuring the first-ever look at the film’s villain in his costume.

In the opening scene, Harley Quinn (Robbie) explains her current relationship status — she recently kicked The Joker to the curb — while she goes on to burn a lot of bridges in service of reinventing herself in Gotham City.

We are days away from Marvel taking the coveted dais of Hall H to give us news on what we hope is Phase 4 of their wildly expansive — and box office record-breaking — Marvel Cinematic Universe. Arguably one of the most anticipated announcements is who would be playing the lead in Shang-Chi, which will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Dave Callaham (both of Asian heritage). It would be the first Asian-fronted superhero film from a major U.S. studio.

In addition to Shang-Chi, the comic book movie powerhouse has tapped The Rider‘s Chloe Zhao to direct The Eternals and Kumail Nanjiani is circling a role in that film. Over at DC, the Harley Quinn spinoff Birds of Prey will be helmed by Cathy Yan, with Ella Jay Basco starring as Cassandra Cain. DC may not be in San Diego for Comic-Con this year, but with Marvel in the room,...

A report over on Reddit, which has already been backed up by a few people who’ve seen the film, claims that Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya find themselves thrown together because Black Mask is hellbent on capturing the young Cassandra Cain.

Why does he want to get his hands on her so bad? Well, she’s somehow swallowed a diamond that belongs to him, and the diamond secretly contains pictures of his dick. The villain needs to get his hands on them before they go public and ruin his reputation. In addition, the leaker explains that Black Mask will be a narcissistic gay man who spends much of the movie flirting with horribly scarred serial killer Victor Zsasz.

Christina Hodson’s Birds of Prey is expected to wrap filming around mid-April, but as the production enters its final stretch, a few more set photos of the movie’s various heroines have now made their way online.

In the gallery below, you’ll find pics of Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Margot Robbie, who assume the roles of Black Canary, Huntress and Harley Quinn, respectively. And while all three actresses appear to be wearing additional clothing over their costumes, we can still get some partially obscured glimpses of the outfits they’ll be rocking in the upcoming DC flick. Huntress, in particular, is once more showing her fondness for purple and black, while displaying some piercing eye makeup and an endearingly lopsided hairstyle.

If the protracted title of Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is anything to go by, then Margot Robbie’s character is set to be the star of Cathy Yan’s upcoming flick. But seeing how this is still a team-up movie, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to hear that the DC feature may end up doing what cinematic universe films are supposed to do and spawn a few spinoffs.

According to sources close to We Got This Covered, Warner Bros. is developing solo movies for Huntress, Black Canary and Cassandra Cain that could be going into production if Birds of Prey proves a big enough hit at the box office. Additionally, it’s said that Rosie Perez’s character Renee Montoya could be getting the same treatment, too, though this possibility is deemed less likely.

The first teaser for Birds of Prey dropped today, giving us a glimpse of the new look Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn will be sporting in the anti-heroine team-up movie as well as introducing us to her new allies. The characters only flash by in the 20-second teaser, so it’s hard to take everything in, but we’ve now got a huge batch of hi-res screenshots which provide a much better look at the costumes for the Birds of Prey and their predators.

The teaser begins by offering us a look at just part of the characters’ attire. Robbie appears to be in a totally different outfit from the one that’s unveiled at the end, which suggests she’ll change what she’s wearing several times throughout the movie. Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Huntress, meanwhile, has her trusty crossbow, as per the comics, and Gcpd cop Renee Montoya...

Harley Quinn’s got a new look.

Margot Robbie revealed the first glimpse at her new take on the DC antiheroine and the rest of the cast of the upcoming female-driven “Birds of Prey” superhero film.

In a short teaser video titled “See You Soon,” an ’80s pop beat plays over quick glimpses of the cast in full costume. Robbie looks particularly joyful as Harley, happier than when we last saw her in prison at the end of 2016’s “Suicide Squad.” Robbie also posted a shot of the new look on her Instagram.

Still keeping her famous baseball bat and tattoos, Harley Quinn is now complete with a shorter haircut and a neon pink outfit covered in confetti. Officially titled “Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn),” there’s a good chance that the movie will see a Harley Quinn liberated from her often toxic relationship with the Joker.

The new teaser for Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) clocks in at just under 20 seconds, and much of that runtime is dedicated to unveiling Margot Robbie and her colorful new outfit, but in a series of pause-worthy shots, the preview also shows off several of Harley’s supporting players.

Chris Messina, for instance, can be spotted in the role of Victor Zsasz, a serial killer who’ll likely be working as a henchman for Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask. Based on what the teaser shows us, Victor’s appearance could end up being a bit of a departure from the comics, though Messina at least seems to have the psychopathic grin down right.

Tuesday morning, following an Instagram post by Margot Robbie teasing her return as Harley Quinn, Warner Bros. released the first official behind-the scenes look at Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Earlier today we got our first look at Margot Robbie back in the role of Harley Quinn in DC’s upcoming Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Now teaser trailer has dropped giving us a first look at all of the main characters in the film!

On top of Harley Quinn, we also see Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary; Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress; Rosie Perez as Detective Renee Montoya; Ella Jay Basco as Batgirl Cassandra Cain; Ewan McGregor as the villainous Black Mask; and Chris Messina the serial killer Victor Zsasz.

Cathy Yan is directing the R-rated "girl-gang movie," and Robbie will be joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Montoya, Ewan McGregor as the film’s villain Black Mask, and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain/Batgirl.

It’s been a good morning for new material from the upcoming Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn), with the first image of Harley’s new outfit quickly being followed by a short teaser that offers a few fleeting glimpses of the film’s supporting players.

Among the various characters to make their Dceu debuts in Cathy Yan’s flick is Roman Sionis, better known as Black Mask, who can be spotted in a couple of shots in the recent preview. One element you may find to be conspicuously absent from the character’s design is his actual black mask, but we can probably assume that this menacing look will be revealed in due time.

Production for DC's Birds of Prey is officially underway, as the teaser called "See You Soon" has released.  More within...

For months now, we've been tracking the casting, production, and writing news surrounding DC's upcoming all-female Superhero Team-up movie, Birds of Prey.  The main takeaway from those months is that WB is very motivated to get this film on the big screen, which typically bodes well for the quality of the film.  With a stellar cast, featuring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, a script by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, and Cathy Yan helming the picture, Warner Bros. Pictures is finally ready to get underway.

No sooner has Margot Robbie provided our first look at Harley Quinn’s new outfit than the first teaser for Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) drops online to introduce the rest of the gang, if only in fleeting glimpses.

In between shots of Robbie dressed in an appropriately Bird-like manner, the footage seems to tease the Dceu debuts of Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, and Ewan McGregor as Black Mask. Nonetheless, Harley is the clear star of the footage, and while Robbie herself has previously described the flick as a “girl gang film,” it’s currently looking like the Clown Princess of Crime will be at the forefront of the ensemble action to a greater extent than in her last team-up flick, Suicide Squad.
