For three decades the story of stone creatures come to life has both entertained and fascinated viewers. Originally airing on a program block associated with light hearted children’s entertainment showed that animation could be much more than just “kids stuff”. Let us revisit the mysterious and enchanted world of Disney’s Gargoyles.
Created by producer Greg Wiseman, the series stood out against its contemporaries at the Disney Afternoon program block. Unlike other shows focused on gags and slapstick comedy, Gargoyles took a darker and more episodic approach similar to Batman: The Animated Series, which aired around the same time.
The series saw a group of Gargoyles who had been frozen for millennia awaken in New York City. They decide to make the city their new home and defend it from various threats.

Exclusive: Eco-thriller Arctic 30 is getting a shot in the arm with new partners and the update that Arctic and Stowaway director Joe Penna is aboard to direct.
Based on actual events, the movie will chart the story of 30 Greenpeace activists who were detained by Russian commandos for months after a 2013 protest against Arctic drilling. They became pawns in a diplomatic game of chess that captured international attention.
Nadine Jolie Courtney (Silver Seas) has been hired to write and casting will begin shortly ahead of a planned 2025 shoot.
Producers are Corniche Media’s Hani Farsi and Nils Åstrand, Laura Rister (The Tale) under her Esme Grace banner, and Laura Lewis (Mr. Malcolm’s List) of Rebelle Media.
Based on the book Don’t Trust, Don’t Fear, Don’t Beg: The Extraordinary Story of the Arctic 30 by Ben Stewart, the project has been in the works for a while.

Actor Patrick Renna sat down to discuss his experience on the film You Gotta Believe, where he worked alongside Greg Kinnear and Luke Wilson, in his new uInterview.
You Gotta Believe follows an underdog baseball team that dedicates the season to a teammate’s sick father and ultimately makes it to the 2002 Little League World Series, where they deliver a record-breaking performance.
“I play Cliff and it’s kind of a cool pivotal point in the film where I’m tasked with kind of convincing Greg Kinnear, who’s the head coach, to do the impossible and take on this tall task and turn this – you know, not the worst team but not the best team – into a team that can compete against the best,” he told uInterview founder Erik Meers.

On March 15, the North American Valorant Challengers League featured a David vs. Goliath matchup. The favored team was affiliated with TeamSoloMid (Tsm), which has been cited as the esports organization with the largest net worth. The underdog bore the logo of Dsg (short for Disguised), a fledgling esports team led by popular streamer Disguised Toast (whose real name is Jeremy Wang).
When the dust settled, Tsm emerged victorious. But despite the loss, Dsg finished high enough in the Challengers League standings to qualify for the Mid-Season Face-Off, where the plucky upstarts earned a rematch with Tsm.
As Dsg’s first season on the Valorant circuit rolls through its ups and downs, the team’s founder is working behind the scenes to create a new type of esports company. Wang told Tubefilter that his organization has “no sponsors” and “no investors,” but despite those drawbacks — or perhaps because of them — Dsg...

Yesterday marked the last day of filming on Marvel’s upcoming threequel, Thor: Ragnarok, and the movie’s director, Taika Waititi, shared a video from the production’s final shooting location via Facebook Live. At first glance it doesn’t appear to be particularly revealing, but there are actually quite a few intriguing tidbits for fans as the footage progresses.
Waititi refers to the location as a “sci-fi space wasteland”, and some costumed extras known as “junkers” are also introduced. We know Thor will be visiting various other realms and planets in this movie, so it’s safe to assume this is one of his pit-stops. Speaking of The God of Thunder, Chris Hemsworth accompanies Waititi on his little jaunt about halfway through, and the pair share some amusing banter. Plus, Tessa Thompson (Creed) shows up in her Valkyrie face-paint. Though she’s not in costume, this is still our...

The makers of Marvel Renaissance talk to us about their documentary, the current state of comic book movies and more...
It’s difficult to believe that 20 years ago, pop-culture behemoth Marvel hovered on the brink of oblivion. Brought low by a falling sales and ill-advised business deals, Marvel filed for bankruptcy in 1996, prompting a galactic war between executives from which it almost never recovered.
That 90s wobble is probably a period Marvel would prefer to draw a veil over - something underlined by the reaction French filmmakers Philippe Guedj and Philippe Roure received when they pitched their documentary, Marvel Renaissance. Two self-confessed comic book lovers, the filmmakers had hoped that Marvel would be happy to help them tell the story of how the company survived its darkest hour and emerged, stronger than ever, as a multimedia powehouse in the 21st century.
Instead, Marvel refused to have any involvement,...

I had a whole ‘nother idea for my column this week. Completely different. It wasn’t about Star Wars, it wasn’t Christmassy, but after I read Joe Corallo’s column that ran in this space 24 hours ago, the that idea was gone with the wind.
Just about all of us here at ComicMix write about the need for greater diversity in comics characters and creators, Joe more than most because that’s his beat. Yesterday he discussed the proliferation of women and their sad restriction to women characters. If you haven’t read his piece, the link is up there in my first paragraph. You should read it. Everybody should read it, so email or text the link to your friends, enemies, and casual acquaintances.
In case you haven’t thought about the subject, there is one great reason why our beloved medium needs greater diversity in characters and...

Yesterday the first trailer for Ridley Scott's Moses film Exodus: Gods and Kings was released, and it looks pretty damn good. The director isn't done with adapting Bible stories, though. According to Variety he's looking to adapt the story of King David for the big screen.
20th Century Fox has hired Jonathan Stokes to write the screenplay for the film, which is tentatively titled David. The movie is inspired by the character from the "David and Goliath tale and [focuses] on the King of Israel. Though the plot is under wraps, it’s likely that the film would focus on the king’s reign post-Goliath."
As of right now Scott is only set to produce, but he's also looking to direct it as well. He is currently prepping to direct The Martian, starring Matt Damon, as well as the Prometheus sequel. I imagine the studio will wait until Scott's...

Buzzfeed reports that Lifetime is taking steps to turn more Vc Andrews novels into movies. That includes two more books about the Dollanganger clan (specifically, If There Be Thorns and Seeds of Yesterday). But from the online discussions I’ve seen, I suspect the most exciting news for Andrews’ fans will be that Lifetime also wants to adapt My Sweet Audrina.
Yesterday, Ed told you that the How I Met Your Dad pilot cast the gay brother. Now, TVLine adds that Nick D’Agosto (last seen in Masters of Sex) and Workaholics‘ Anders Holm has also joined the cast.

The Oscar race is never a dull one and that couldn’t be any more apparent than in the race for Best Foreign Language film. This year is certainly shaping up to be a battle of David vs. Goliath if you looked at the histories of the countries competing. In one corner, you have Italy, with a whopping 12 wins in this category, facing off with a country like Cambodia, with no Oscar nominations. But such is the beauty of the awards season and the Oscars. So before the nominations come out, here’s an Oscar primer to get you caught up on the Foreign Language films.
Belgium – 2013 Nominee: The Broken Circle Breakdown
Logline/Synopsis: Elise and Didier fall in love at first sight, in spite of their differences. He talks, she listens. He’s a romantic atheist, she’s a religious realist. When their daughter becomes seriously ill,...

Yesterday Warner Brothers released a new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises; the internet went mental and collectively spewed opinion over message boards everywhere.
Responses ranged from the bad to the rabidly stark raving good but one solid piece of criticism that could be distilled from all of the fawning chaos was that people were just not happy with Bane’s voice.
Firstly with the six-minute prologue that was shown to but a few and now with the universally available trailer, Tom Hardy’s villain has been adjudged to be a bit incomprehensible. Be it the muffle from his mask or the Englishness of his enunciation, people just aren’t loving it. Or more importantly understanding it.
One would think therefore that with such a fuss about so little director Christopher Nolan would just listen to the Warner executives and fix the sound mix. But never one to concede easily...
