With James Wan as the producer and approval from Stephen King, Teacup couldn’t have gotten a much bigger hype in the horror genre. Peacock’s sci-fi horror series is loosely based on Robert McCammon’s novel Stinger. Sadly, the series got the axe from Peacock after its critically acclaimed first season.
The series also boasted a talented star cast, featuring Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, Kathy Baker, Rob Morgan, and Boris McGiver. A group of people in an isolated ranch in rural Georgia are stuck together as they face a threat that they can’t see.

Created by Ian McCulloch, the series began streaming on the NBCUniversal-backed platform in October 2024. While it wasn’t as popular as other shows of the year, it received love from fans who got around to seeing it in the first place. The series ended its first season on a cliffhanger.

In the entertainment industry, several projects are tossed before they can make it to the development stage. Out of those that do end up being made, only a fraction of them end up surviving and getting more than a few seasons. However, the majority of these are canceled before they can take flight, ending the saga with just a single season, and leaving fans on a cliffhanger for the rest of their lives. This is what happened with Peacock’s latest TV series, Teacup.

Peacock wasn’t convinced enough to continue with another season of its horror series Teacup. Almost three months after the finale dropped, the streamer announced the cancellation after the show's first season, per TVLine. So, there won't be a season 2.
Why was cancelling Teacup the right decision?
Peacock did not officially release the show’s viewership details. But one thing is for sure, Teacup did not get the significant audience numbers that it should have. It did not even make it into the Nielsen Top 10 streaming charts. And so, because it wasn't able to make an impact on the streaming charts, Teacup easily made it to cancellation after one season.
The series gained a 77 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and a rating of 6.4 on IMDb. Some Rt critics even gave strong flatteries for the show, saying it pulled them in with its first two episodes. However even though the show's first-episode was a banger,...

Peacock has chosen not to continue its horror-thriller series Teacup for a second season, ending the adaptation of Robert McCammon’s book Stinger. The series started in October 2024 and had a famous cast, including Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman.
Set in rural Georgia, Teacup is about strangers coming together because of an unknown danger. The show got a 70% approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes and mostly good reviews, but it didn’t do well on Nielsen’s streaming charts. Peacock usually keeps its viewing numbers secret and does not share specific details.
The series had a talented artistic team. Ian McCulloch was the writer and executive director, and E.L. Katz, who directed The Haunting of Bly Manor and Channel Zero, directed the first two episodes. Kevin Tancharoen directed the final episode. Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett served as executive producers. The show was produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster production company.

Yet another well-received 2024 show has found itself on the chopping block, and this time it's one that was well-received by Stephen King. The past few years have seen the acclaimed horror author turn his creative endeavors to also sharing his reviews on a variety of films and TV shows, with everything from Apple TV+'s Constellation to The Midwitch Cuckoos getting his approval. The horror genre, in particular, has seen plenty of reviews from King, including Blumhouse's Night Swim and Strange Darling.
Though his voice has helped certain shows find success, many 2024 TV releases have still found themselves cancelled after just one season. Many of them also, unfortunately, left audiences on cliffhanger endings, including the Child's Play sequel show Chucky, the Apple TV+ sci-fi show Sunny and the Star Wars spinoff The Acolyte, while others that left off on mostly closed notes still came to a close, including American Born Chinese.

Despite being praised by critics as one of the best horror series of 2024, Peacock has canceled “Teacup” after one season, Variety reports this afternoon.
The series debuted in October 2024 and was executive produced by James Wan and inspired by Robert McCammon’s Stinger.
It followed a disparate group of people on a ranch who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive. As the showrunner previously revealed, it was only loosely based on the novel that inspired it, instead opting for a more cerebral, paranoid take on the material.
Scott Speedman (The Strangers), Yvonne Strahovski (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), and Chaske Spencer (“Jessica Jones”, The Twilight Saga), Kathy Baker, Boris McGiver, Caleb Dolden, Emilie Bierre, Luciano Leroux star in “Teacup.”
As I wrote in my review, “The inaugural season is self-contained, trapping its characters in a claustrophobic bubble of oncoming terror and interpersonal drama. It...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the two-part finale of Teacup, “This is Nowhere” Parts 1 and 2.] As violent and chaotic as Teacup already was throughout its first three weeks’ episodes, it was still a shock to the system to see what became of the Chenoweths and their neighbors in the two-part finale that arrived on Peacock this week. Assassin made its way through the crew rapidly in the last stretch of the series, jumping from Valeria (Diany Rodriguez) to Nicholas (Luciano Leroux) and then on to Meryl (Emilie Bierre), the closest person to Arlo (Caleb Dolden) — who was, of course, inhabited by Assassin’s ultimate target, Harbinger. By the time it made its way into their daughter’s mind, Maggie (Yvonne Strahovski) and James (Scott Speedman) had already resigned themselves to having to drown whoever Assassin was hiding within — with the hopes of reviving them afterward, free and clear of any space visitors within. So when Maggie came face ...

Oh, a real tempest is stirring in Teacup as Peacock‘s acclaimed sci-fi/horror drama races towards its first season finale. And TV Insider has an exclusive peek at what to expect in this week’s two-episode ender. Based (very loosely) on author Robert R. McCammon’s book Stinger, the series has spent the past six episodes establishing that invisible alien visitors have invaded the bodies of local neighbors in a rural Georgia community. One is known as “Harbinger” and resides inside the mind of young Arlo Chenoweth (Caleb Dolden). The other “Assassin,” has been jumping from host to host to get closer to Arlo’s unseen guest, and has a dark intention once he traps it. We’ve also learned a lot about these characters along the way. The boy’s folks—James and Maggie—are reeling from James’ affair with a neighbor. There is also a guy in...

A new Stephen King-approved horror show is the perfect series to watch alongside From season 3, with both shows sporting plenty of similarities. From season 3 is a horror series on MGM+, following the lives of people who become trapped in a town filled with supernatural creatures and paranormal events. King praised the series starting in season 2, leading to a growth in popularity. This was compounded by From's intriguing characters and unsolved mysteries, leading to many theories surrounding what's really going on in the mysterious location.
Alongside human characters trying to escape town, the show also features plenty of mysterious figures, such as the Boy in White and a ghostly figure one character keeps seeing in his dreams. These compound to form different layers of the ongoing mystery, which allow the show to juggle multiple mysteries as everyone attempts their escapes. October is typically home to a plethora of horror-themed content, released just in time for spooky season, and the biggest highlight of this year’s offerings is the supernatural horror-comedy Hysteria! With a rockin’ cast, a compelling story, and palpable energy, Hysteria! is a charming new show that will win the hearts of both today’s teens and those who grew up in the era in which it is set.
Hysteria! Review
Hysteria! is set in a conservative small town in the late 1980s amid the Satanic Panic, as a group of teenagers with a garage band decide to start a fake cult to make themselves more popular. When a local boy is found murdered, things get out of hand, and they become involved in a conspiracy that is bigger than they ever could have imagined.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Teacup episodes 1 & 2!Teacup creator Ian McCulloch has explained episode 2's brutal death scene, breaking down the vision behind how character deaths in the show are going to happen. Teacup episode 2 ended with the three families trapped on the Chenowth's ranch learning that crossing a line drawn by the Gas Mask Man will cause them to die in a visceral way. However, Claire Kelly (Holly A. Morris) chases her and her husband's dog over the line, resulting in her flesh opening up and her bones splintering outside her skin in the process.
Speaking with Collider, McCulloch explained how the vision behind Teacup's brutal death sequence involved balancing shocking the audience with ensuring the scene wasn't over-the-top either. The creator explained how Jaws was an inspiration, wanting to showcase less horrifying moments to ensure the terror of such scenes had more impact. He praised Claire's death scene and its choreography,...

Every studio and network is rolling out their genre offerings at that time of year. From horror to sci-fi to intense thrillers, everyone wants to scare you in October, and this new series by producer James Wan is at the top of the list. Based on the novel Stinger by Robert McCammon, Teacup is a perfectly scary story that is parsed out in thirty-minute chapters between now and Halloween.
Teacup tells the story of the Chenoweth family, who live on an isolated farmstead away from any populated areas. As Maggie and James deal with a rift in their marriage, their kids Arlo and Meryl are drawn into the fight as the neighboring Shanley family arrives with an injured horse. Soon, the two families are thrown into a mysterious conflict with a mysterious stranger who warns them that leaving their property could spell certain doom. As the story unfolds, we learn...

Teacup, the new horror adaptation endorsed by Stephen King, is off to a solid start on Rotten Tomatoes. Teacup recently debuted on Peacock, arriving just in time for the spookiest month of the year. The eight-episode series is based on the Robert McCammon novel Stinger, with The Handmaid's Tale star Yvonne Strahovski and Grey's Anatomy alum Scott Speedman in lead roles. The story centers on an unlikely group in rural Georgia that must work together to face a mysterious danger threatening their survival. King praised the show before its premiere, comparing it to Lost and From.
When taking all reviews into account, Teacup is off to a solid start on Rotten Tomatoes. The adaptation has a 72% based on 18 reviews, with the score breaking down to 6.30 out of 10. Peacock's Teacup is a gripping character-driven horror series primarily held together by the performances of its talented cast members. Inspired by Robert R. McCammon's book Stringer, Teacup unfolds on a ranch in rural Georgia. In its eight-episode runtime, it walks through how its characters find themselves facing a mysterious threat that disrupts their seemingly idyllic lives. Although Teacup adopts a slow-burn approach in its early episodes, it reels viewers in by creating an immersive experience with its harrowing atmosphere and claustrophobic setting.
Through its character beats, Teacup also prompts viewers to become armchair detectives and solve its underlying mysteries with the main characters. Since Teacup's characters play a crucial role in gradually raising the intensity of its terrors and drama, the performances of its cast members are instrumental to its story's emotional impact. Owing to this, many viewers might wonder who plays whom in Teacup after watching the show.

Scott Speedman may have endeared himself to audiences in the late ’90s as heartthrob Ben Covington, the object of Felicity Porter’s (Keri Russell) desires, on the WB college drama series Felicity. But for over two decades, the British-born Canadian actor has carved out a niche for himself in the horror and thriller genres, playing increasingly complicated and tortured men in the Underworld film franchise, The Strangers, David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future and the forthcoming Cellar Door. And in recent years, Speedman, with his buzzy roles in Grey’s Anatomy and You, has reentered the cultural zeitgeist.
Now, Teacup marks Speedman’s latest foray into horror. Adapted from Robert R. Filming the Peacock sci-fi series “Teacup,” in which residents of a farm in rural Georgia must band together to survive after a series of bizarre events, meant a lot of night shoots and frequent use of gas masks.
Neither aspect was easy, but the cast — including Scott Speedman, Yvonne Strahovski, Rob Morgan and Chaske Spencer — found ways to cope. Speedman, who plays father-of-two James Chenoweth, said that “your brain turns off” at some point when filming goes all night.
Morgan, perhaps best known as Officer Powell on “Stranger Things,” is McNab, the mysterious man who shows up at the Chenoweths’ farm in a gas mask and warns them not to cross a blue line he’s just painted around their property.

The first two episodes of Peacock‘s new horror series Teacup have now premiered on the streamer, and it’s not much of a spoiler to say that there is some truly horrific imagery at play in the series already. Such visuals include a body that’s been torn into shreds right in front of everyone and left to fester like a grisly statue outside of an apparently unbreachable forcefield. That sight of a gnashed body would be difficult for even the most veteran horror stars to stomach, so with two underaged children in the cast, the intensity of the prop was probably tenfold. So how did the team keep the kids from getting too scared of what they saw on set? TV Insider caught up with Emilie Bierre and Caleb Dolden, who play the young children of the Chenoweth family. The characters, one a teen and another an elementary school-aged boy,...

“Teacup,” Peacock’s new series executive produced by James Wan, is a tricky one to write about. Writer, producer, and showrunner Ian McCulloch (Yellowstone) draws very little from Robert McCammon’s Stinger, opting for a modern, minimalist interpretation of the horror western, one driven almost entirely by its central mystery. The eight-episode inaugural season is so structured around its enigmatic threat, purpose, methodology, and reach that “Teacup“ becomes a landmine of spoilers to dodge for the sake of preserving its many, many surprises. While that makes for a lot of setup and character dynamics to establish, McCulloch’s careful plotting and effective atmospherics pay off, resulting in an intense, rewarding inaugural season.
Set in rural Georgia, the series sees a disparate group of people forced together by a mysterious phenomenon in their surrounding woods. The type that leaves them without electricity, cell phone service, or a way to escape whatever...

I tore through “Teacup” in two days.
The Peacock thriller based on Robert McCammon’s “Stinger” premieres on October 11 and will continue in two-episodes installments, but the wait between them is agonizing. “Teacup” takes place over the course of one harrowing night and day amid a major supernatural threat — the kind of premise and pacing that would’ve made a killer feature along the lines of “Cloverfield” or “Attack the Block.” Ian McCulloch serves as showrunner and executive producer along with McCammon, James Wan, and more.
Alas, “Peacock” debuts in the era of streaming, the era in which a novel’s TV adaptation veers toward audiobook in terms of run time. This is the era of “We’re not making a TV show, we’re making a multi-part movie”, and for a story like “Teacup” that just crushes the momentum.

Inspired by Robert R. McCammon’s novel Stinger, Teacup takes place in and around a small group of neighboring ranches in a remote part of Georgia, where something is seriously amiss. The animals notice it first, as they always seem to. Then the phonelines die, and the power goes out, including the batteries inside everyone’s car. Just as the ranchers start to suspect that someone or something is intentionally trying to cut them off from the outside world, a painted blue borderline appears on the ground around their ranches, confirming that fear. A mysterious man named McNab (Rob Morgan) warns them not to cross it and, as the first episode ends, we get a very vivid demonstration of what will happen if that warning is ignored.
It’s a compelling setup, isolating a bunch of characters in a single location and then weaving between their interpersonal drama and the overarching mystery.

Peacock’s horror series executive produced by James Wan, “Teacup,” assembles an impressive cast and crew with horror pedigree for a new, modern take on the sci-fi western. One that only loosely pulls from the novel that inspired it, Robert McCammon’s Stinger, without sacrificing the horror or impressive practical effects.

Robert McCammon's cult classic horror novel Stinger is getting the screen treatment, with a twist, from Ian McCulloch in Teacup. Prior to the Peacock horror show, McCulloch had primarily worked as a recurring writer and executive producer in the world of television, having contributed to the likes of NBC's Chicago Fire, Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone and the short-lived Stephen Dorff neo-Western drama Deputy. While only a writer for 23 episodes of each, McCulloch was a consulting producer for far more of each series, with Chicago Fire being his biggest tenure for all 23 episodes of season 4.
With Teacup, McCulloch takes a very unique approach to adapting McCammon's novel, doing away with a large amount of it and instead focusing the story on three families on a rural Georgia farm rather than a small town. There’s something really weird going on in the rural Georgia community that’s the setting for Peacock’s new horror series Teacup. The eight-episode series follows a small group of people who find themselves trapped by a mysterious threat.
Loosely based on Robert McCammon’s novel Stinger, Teacup stars Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale), Scott Speedman (You), and Chaske Spencer (Marvel’s Echo) as Ruben Shanley. Strahovski, Speedman, and Spencer took part in Peacock’s first San Diego Comic-Con panel for the show in July 2024. Following the panel, the cast and showrunner Ian McCulloch participated in roundtable interviews to dive deeper into what viewers can expect when Teacup premieres on October 10, 2024.

Chaske Spencer and Rob Morgan play two figures on literally opposite sides of a mysterious line in Teacup. After first breaking out with his role as the werewolf Sam in the Twilight franchise, Spencer would start to gain steam on screen with the Banshee franchise, starring as Deputy Billy Raven, and continuing it with Giovanni Ribisi's Sneaky Pete, NBC's Blindspot and the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Echo, starring as the titular character's uncle. In the quote below, McCulloch explains that I write as an audience member and reflects on how that changes how he approaches Teacup:
Both yes and no. I have some ideas, but I am a writer who doesn't like to make his job easy,...

The James Wan-produced Teacup was one of my most anticipated 2024 horror shows, but the showrunner's claim it essentially ignores the source novel makes me nervous. Peacock's Teacup stars Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman as a couple in Georgia who, alongside their neighbors, find themselves under siege by an otherworldly threat. The trailer for Teacup takes notes from Lost's playbook, keeping things very mysterious, but those who've read the book it adapts - Robert R. McCammon's Stinger - will have a clearer idea of what's happening.
Stinger feels like an unmade sequel to The Thing and involves an alien bounty hunter trapping a desert town inside an impenetrable dome. This creature can also absorb other lifeforms and make drones of them, with its signature attack being a spiky, barbed tail. I found Stinger to be a pulpy guilty pleasure, featuring both creepy scenes of horror and large-scale action.

Stephen King is once again scoping out all the best genre TV to give fans the rundown on what's new and great. His Entertainment Weekly column may have ended ages ago, but the prolific author's pop culture knowledge knows no limits, and he still regularly takes to Twitter/X to post about what he's been watching or reading. Earlier this summer, he gave the Paramount+ series "Evil" a boost –- and may have kick-started an entire cast and fan campaign –- by requesting a renewal for the newly-ended weird horror series. His other recent recommendations include the Jeremy Saulnier thriller "Rebel Ridge" and the Kyle Gallner and Willa Fitzgerald-led indie "Strange Darling," both of which /Film's own critic Chris Evangelista also really liked.
People tend to joke that King's pop culture taste isn't always on the mark these days, but he's clearly on a roll with his recent recommendations,...

From Executive Producer James Wan comes the new horror series Teacup.
Teacup follows a disparate group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive. Inspired by the New York Times bestselling novel “Stinger” by Robert McCammon, the cast includes Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, Chaske Spencer, Kathy Baker, Boris McGiver, Caleb Dolden, Emilie Bierre, Luciano Leroux.
The first two episodes of Teacup premiere on Peacock on Thursday, October 10, followed by two episodes weekly through Halloween. The horror, thriller contains eight 30 Min episodes.
Published in 1988, Stinger is a classic horror novel that blends elements of science fiction and pulp fiction. Set in a dying Texas mining town, the story centers around an alien bounty hunter who arrives to track down a fugitive alien who has escaped from its home planet.
Sounds very much like the movies Critters and The Hidden.

Stephen King shares his praise for the upcoming horror series Teacup, comparing it to Lost and the MGM+ series From. Debuting in just a matter of weeks, the Teacup trailer previewed the James Wan-produced show that teases a terrifying mystery. Although the story seems to begin on a sunny note, it's not too long before the sinister twists begin to cut through the perfect exterior.
Ahead of Teacup's debut on Peacock, with the first two episodes releasing on October 10, King has posted a glowing endorsement of the series on X/Twitter. The legendary author has shared his support for various series, being one of the early supporters of From which has since become a relatively breakout hit. King calls the show strange, creepy, claustrophobic, and scary, comparing it to the seminal mystery drama Lost and From as well.
Teacup: If you like From or Lost, I think you'll enjoy this.
