A shapely Nazi demoness ignites a bloody World War II battle from Hell in The Devil’s Rock, a 2011 action-horror war movie from New Zealand.

The film has a pretty straight-ahead albeit colorful story: On the eve of D-Day, two Allied commandos (Craig Hall of 30 Days of Night and Joseph Tane of TV’s Spartacus: Blood and Sand) are sent to destroy a German gun installation. Moving forward on their mission, the pair uncover a secret occult lair housing a mysterious Nazi officer (Matthew Sunderland, Under the Mountain) and his beautiful but devilish captive (sexy Gina Varela). Well, it turns out the Nazis are actually hiding a deadly she-demon, whom they plan to use to turn the tide of the war.

When there is a film that is about Nazis dabbling with the occult, ears are going to perk, and the question is would it have turned the tide of World War II? With The Devil’s Rock, all those tender loving thoughts are going to get explored again with its DVD release Feb 14.

Shades of Enemy Mine can be found at one level, and some nods to the Indiana Jones franchise can be found at another. The Nazis did try to look for the Spear of Destiny, Ark of the Covenant and Holy Grail before and during the war. Viewers who are not acquainted with history or archaeology may not know of Hitler’s preoccupation with connecting to the occult.

Devil's Rock is director Paul Campion's feature film debut. His last film was the violently beautiful short film, Eel Girl, so yeah, we're interested.

Shot in in 15 days in Wellington, New Zealand, Devil's Rock features special makeup effects by Oscar winning makeup effects company Weta Workshop.

You know that you are in for a treat when you read "from the director of Eel Girl." Paul Campion is the director behind the New Zealand shot The Devil's Rock and this is one horror film that grabs your attention. Many features have equated the Nationalist Socialist Worker's Part (Nazi) with the occult and the supernatural, including Blood Creek, starring Dominic Purcell. This time, the Gestapo come in devilish disguise and female form, while using pentagrams to summon even more minions.

Recently, The Devil's Rock has been picked up for North American distribution (Dread Central) and horror fans can watch the early events of World War II, including D-Day, with this first trailer for the film. Prepare to face one of the most villainous forces from the 19th Century, in demon form!

I had the pleasure of seeing director Paul Campion's fun short film Night of the Hell Hamsters at the Another Hole in the Head film festival many years ago. So I was very excited when I heard about his new feature length film, The Devil's Rock, which premiered at the Cannes Film festival this past Friday. The WW2 horror film was shot in 15 days in Wellington, New Zealand. It stars Craig Hall (30 Days of Night), Matthew Sunderland, Gina Varela and Karlos Drinkwater ("Kerza", Spartacus: Blood and Sand).
