- While as Captain of Squad 41 in the Bronx, was awarded FDNY's William F. Conran Medal for rescuing a man from a dangerous fire. According to a FDNY webpage "Captain William J. Walsh operated in extremely punishing and dangerous conditions, with no regard for his own personal safety. His actions are, therefore, befitting of recognition in the finest traditions of the New York City Fire Department. He is honored with the William F. Conran Medal." (June 2006)
