Exclusive: Avalon wrapped production on the second season of FX and Sky’s Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard comedy Breeders last Friday, as the UK faced further coronavirus disruption amid the outbreak of fast-spreading mutation of the virus.

Created by Freeman, Chris Addison, and Simon Blackwell, the parental comedy was one of the first Sky shows to begin filming in August following the Covid-19 production hiatus. Its 15-week shoot included a two-week pause following a positive coronavirus test.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Everything’s Going To Be Ok producer Avalon makes the series in association with FX Productions. It features Freeman and Haggard as parents trying to look after their two small children Luke, played by George Wakeman, and Ava, played by Jayda Eyles.

Veep writer Blackwell serves as showrunner and executive produces alongside Addison, Freeman, Richard Allen-Turner, Rob Aslett, David Martin, Jon Thoday, Toby Welch, and Michael Wiggs.

Martin Freeman is a familiar face to television audiences, largely thanks to his work in dramatic series like Sherlock, StartUp, and Fargo. FX is pregnant with more “Breeders” on the way. The cable channel has renewed Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard’s bad-parenting comedy for Season 2.

“We are proud of everything the creative team and talent on ‘Breeders’ achieved in the first season and look forward to seeing where they take it in season two,” Nick Grad, president of original programming at FX Entertainment, said in announcing the renewal. “‘Breeders’ has really resonated with viewers, who’ve come to appreciate its honest and humorous take on the challenges of modern parenting.”

“So pleased we get another go at ‘Breeders,'” Freeman said in a statement on Monday. “I reckon the next one will be even better. It’s such a pleasure working with this team… we’ll see you all soon. Well, not soon. But at some point, honest.”

FX and Sky have picked up a second season of Breeders from creators Martin Freeman, Chris Addison and Simon Blackwell.

The parental comedy stars Freeman and Episodes and Back To Life’s Daisy Haggard as partners and parents, trying to look after their two small children Luke, played by George Wakeman and Ava, played by Jayda Eyles.

The first season, which also starred Better Call Saul and This Is Spinal Tap actor Michael McKean as Ally’s father, is produced by Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Everything’s Going To Be Ok producer Avalon Television in association with FX Productions.

It premiered on FX on March 2 with episodes on Hulu the following the day. Blackwell serves as showrunner and exec produces alongside Addison, Freeman, Richard Allen-Turner, Rob Aslett, David Martin, Jon Thoday, Toby Welch and Michael Wiggs. Ben Palmer is co-executive producer

Although he tries to talk himself out of it as he climbs the stairs, he can’t help but scream, “Jesus, fxxking Christ, how many times do I have to tell you to be quiet?” followed by “Sorry. I’m working. I didn’t mean any of that”.
