In its first pilot episode, Star Trek: The Original Series revealed some dark truths about Captain Christopher Pike's (Jeffrey Hunter) most recent mission. Before Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) took over command of the USS Enterprise, Captain Pike sat in the captain's chair on the iconic ship. As established in Star Trek's original pilot, "The Cage," Pike had an entirely different crew aboard his Enterprise, aside from his science officer, Spock (Leonard Nimoy). In "The Cage," Pike answers a distress call from Talos IV only to learn it had been a trap set by the Talosians.
Upon beaming down to the planet, Pike meets a beautiful young woman named Vina (Susan Oliver) before the Talosians imprison the Enterprise captain. As Number One (Majel Barrett) leads a rescue mission, the Talosians present Pike with various illusions to convince him to stay. The powerful Talosians have tapped into Pike's mind...

Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) has a curious limp in "The Cage," Star Trek's original, rejected pilot, but the reason why is hinted at in the episode. Produced in 1964, "The Cage" was creator Gene Roddeneberry's first vision for Star Trek. "The Cage" starred Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Christopher Pike, Susan Oliver as Vina, and Majel Barrett as Number One, along with Nimoy as the Vulcan Mr. Spock. NBC considered "The Cage" "too cerebral" for network television but ordered a second pilot that became Star Trek: The Original Series, with William Shatner's Captain James T. Kirk replacing Pike and only Spock returning from "The Cage's" cast.
In Star Trek's "The Cage," the USS Enterprise is diverted to the planet Talos IV, where its inhabitants laid a trap for Captain Pike. The Talosians possessed the power to cast realistic illusions, and they wanted Pike for their menagerie of aliens.

2023 introduced new and iconic villains in Star Trek, including the Borg, Changelings, and the Gorn. Star Trek heroes faced frightening foes, such as a former yeoman seeking revenge, an overbearing Vulcan mother, and a deadly predator pet. Some standout villains include Lore, the evil android brother of Data, and the formidable Borg Queen, who allies with the Changelings.

"Strange New Worlds" might be less than two seasons old, but the almost universally well-received "Trek" series has already made a name for itself by consistently taking bold swings -- in multiple directions. As much as the recent musical episode or the crossover special with "Lower Decks" reaffirmed that the writers on this show thrive when they allow themselves to get a little silly, there have been several episodes that tackled much darker themes with an impressive amount of nuance and hard-hitting emotions. There's the entire matter of Christopher Pike's (Anson Mount) tragic backstory and his foreknowledge of what's to come, of course, but "Strange New Worlds" has also shown a willingness to go to some seriously, well, serious places when the character and story call for it.

Where to Watch Powered by The position of yeoman in Star Trek originated from the US Navy and served as assistants to the Captain, performing administrative work and attending to various duties. In the original series, women rarely served as high-ranking officers, so the yeoman position allowed for more female representation, often portraying them as attractive objects of desire. In modern Star Trek shows, the position of yeoman has been abandoned due to advancements in technology, making their administrative work unnecessary and easily automated.
Though various yeomen appeared over the course of Star Trek: The Original Series, subsequent Star Trek series have rarely featured crew members with that title. The most prominent yeoman character was Janice Rand (Grace Lee Whitney), who served as the yeoman for Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) aboard the USS Enterprise. After Whitney's departure from Tos following eight episodes of the first season, various young...

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Season 2, Episode 4 - "Among The Lotus Eaters"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 4, "Among the Lotus Eaters," brought Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the USS Enterprise back to Rigel VII, and included several references to the unaired pilot of Star Trek: The Original Series, "The Cage." This original pilot followed Captain Pike (Jeffrey Hunter) rather than Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and was about a fateful mission to Talos IV. Along the way, Pike talked about a previous mission to Rigel VII in which he had lost four crew members. As he continues to work through that failure of a mission, he is taken prisoner by the Talosians and placed into a literal cage.
Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 4 gave Captain Pike a chance to revisit Rigel VII, and he and his landing party soon discovered what made the planet so dangerous.

Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, season 2, episode 4 - "Among the Lotus Eaters"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 4 perfectly reversed a storyline from Star Trek: Prodigy. "Among the Lotus Eaters" saw Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) lead a landing party down to Rigel VII in order to investigate a potential violation of the Prime Directive. When the team arrived, they found that a former USS Enterprise Yeoman, Zac Nguyen (David Huynh), who had been presumed dead after the ship's previous failed mission to the planet, had been left behind and subsequently declared himself the ruler of a group of Kalar, Rigel VII's native population.
Yeoman Nguyen's story bears a striking resemblance to an episode from season 1 of Star Trek: Prodigy. In Prodigy season 1, episode 13, "All the World's a Stage", the crew of the USS Protostar received a distress call from a planet, and an away team...

We had a chance to chat with David Huynh, currently starring in The Sinner as Cj, a troubled young man involved with the equally troubled Percy Muldoon (Alice Kremelberg).
He offered candid insight into working on the show and bringing the gritty details of the twisty psychological drama to life.
Don't worry; we kept the spoiler parts of the conversation close to the vest. Let's just say that you are going to love The Sinner Season 4 Episode 6! Enjoy.
So I was looking at your IMDb page, and you've been on so many awesome shows in guest roles. What guest role is your most memorable?
It's dating, and this is going pretty far back, but I did a guest thing on ER, and this was a long time ago. It was the last season of ER, and it was the second last episode.

Director: Juwan Chung. Review Adam Wing. With his second feature Juwan Chung (Cake) paints a tragic tale of Asian youths caught up in South East Los Angeles gang life during the mid 80’s and early 90’s. Critics have compared the film to Boyz N The Hood, high praise indeed, and the film seems to have justified that tag by picking up numerous awards including New Director/New Visions Award at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. David Huynh stars as the Baby of the title but don’t worry, identical in name alone, if this particular Baby gets put in the corner he’ll probably come out blasting. You won’t want to be calling him Frances either.
