J.K. Simmons' take on J. Jonah Jameson was so iconic that The Amazing Spider-Man movies didn't revisit The Daily Bugle newsroom. In fact, we didn't see Jjj on screen again until 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home, where he was once again played by Simmons.
The McU's take on Jonah was very different, as he was reimagined as an Alex Jones-inspired shock jock instead of a newspaper Editor-in-Chief.
Jolly Jonah had a minor role as an antagonist in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and will surely continue to plague the wall-crawler in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (especially now that he no longer knows who is under the mask and will no doubt be eager to unmask New York's biggest "menace").
With all that in mind, the odds of us seeing Peter taking photos of Spidey for The Daily Bugle are slim. Now, a new shot from the movie's London set...

“The Daily Show” takes on Joe Rogan in a new installment of its “Daily Showography” series, exploring the podcaster and comedian’s rise to becoming a leading figure of the manosphere.
The segment, titled “The Path to Roganlightenment,” playfully skewers Rogan’s television career, health and fitness regimen and conspiracy theories. The seven-minute clip will play during Wednesday night’s episode of “The Daily Show,” hosted by Desi Lydic at 11 p.m. Et on Comedy Central.
“For millennia, the great philosophers have sought to answer life’s most profound questions. And today, a new thinker has emerged to grapple with the mysteries of our universe,” the video opens, just before cutting to Rogan asking, “Why do Black people like menthols so much? What’s that about?” In another clip, Rogan, clad in an elf costume, says, “Everything has a consciousness. Literally everything — even tables.”

When Evil Lurks (Cuando Acecha la Maldad) is the new feature film from Argentinian director Demián Rugna. Rugna assured himself a place in horror history with his film Terrified in 2017 and then vanished off the scene until his segment in last year’s Satanic Hispanics. Thankfully he didn’t make us wait another five years for something new, and When Evil Lurks premiered this year at TIFF as part of its Midnight Madness program.
Appropriately enough the film starts somewhere around midnight when Pedro and his brother Jimmy are awakened by the sound of gunshots somewhere in the woods. Going to investigate the next morning they find a body, or half of one anyway, with a strange device nearby and a notebook in a language the brothers don’t recognize nearby.

Updated with Candace Owens statement: P.T. Barnum once said “no publicity is bad publicity,” but hard to tell if Candace Owens would agree or disagree today.
The conservative contrarian’s “outlandish, defamatory and far-fetched fictions” that French First Lady Brigitte Macron was born a man are totally false, a defamation lawsuit filed Wednesday by France President Emmanuel Macron and his spouse assert. The Élysée Palace occupants allege that the conspiracy-peddling Owens attacked the couple incessantly “to promote her independent platform, gain notoriety and make money.”
It’s an effort that the Macrons and their Tom Clare-led U.S. lawyers have to admit is working out for Maga-courting Owens with her podcast loyalists, YouTube watchers and millions of social media followers. Owens “has built a brand on provocation, not truth,” the suit says.

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones cried in a video after the Justice Department and FBI released a memo saying that there was no evidence of a Jeffrey Epstein client list.
“As part of our commitment to transparency, the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have conducted an exhaustive review of investigative holdings relating to Jeffrey Epstein,” the memo read.
The memo stated that the “systematic review revealed no incriminating ‘client list.'”
“There was also no credible evidence found that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions,” it noted. “We did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties.”
In a video posted on X, Jones shared his dissatisfaction with the findings mentioned in the memo.
“This is very, very painful and nauseating – I actually physically nauseated, in the last three hours since I got up,” he stated while driving.

Donald Trump scolded a reporter on Tuesday for asking a question about Jeffrey Epstein, amid a backlash by some Maga-world figures dismayed over the administration’s dismissal of conspiracy theories surrounding the late convicted sex offender.
At a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, a reporter, Steven Nelson of the New York Post, asked Trump’s Attorney General, Pam Bondi, about a Justice Department and FBI memo that there was “no credible evidence found that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions.” The memo also said that, after a review, they supported the conclusion that Epstein died by suicide while in incarceration in 2019. The federal authorities also said that “no further disclosure would be appropriate or warranted.”
Nelson noted that the memo “left some lingering mysteries.”
“One of the biggest ones is whether he ever worked for an American or foreign intelligence agency. The former labor secretary who was U.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Monday attempted to explain why Attorney General Pam Bondi talked earlier this year of a Jeffrey Epstein client list but now a Justice Department memo says there is none.
At a press briefing, Fox News’ Peter Doocy noted to Leavitt that the Justice Department and FBI memo “revealed no incriminating client list.”
“So what happened to the Epstein client list that the attorney general said that she had on her desk?” Doocy asked Leavitt.
“Well, I think if you go back and look at what the attorney general said in that interview with your network, on Fox News,” Leavitt said.
“I got the quote,” Doocy said. “[Anchor] John Roberts said, the DOJ may be releasing the list of Jeffrey Epstein clients. Will that really happen?’ And [Bondi] said, ‘It’s sitting right now on my desk to review.”
Leavitt responded, “Yes, she was saying the...

Readers of Sunday’s New York Times were treated to an unusual full-page ad from a rival newspaper — the venerated satire periodical The Onion. Most of the available space was taken up by a mocking editorial piece with a headline that blared: “Congress, Now More Than Ever, Our Nation Needs Your Cowardice.” In a note at the bottom of the page, the company revealed that print copies of the op-ed were being delivered to the very lawmakers it ripped apart as complacent do-nothings under an increasingly authoritarian Donald Trump.

Social media influencer Brian “Liver King” Johnson has been arrested in Austin due to posting a series of bizarre videos threatening Joe Rogan.
Johnson was taken into custody by police on June 24 and charged with making a terroristic threat, according to Austin Police Department (and first reported by Kxan). Police confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Johnson’s charge was specifically due to threatening the podcast titan. Johnson has posted multiple videos on Instagram (below) over the past two days about wanting to battle Rogan and chronicled his journey to Austin to apparently confront the podcaster.
“Detectives reviewed the posts and observed that Johnson was traveling to Austin while continuing to make threatening statements,” said police in a statement. “Detectives contacted Mr. Rogan, who stated he had never had any interaction with Johnson and considered the posts to be threatening. Brian Johnson, aka the Liver King, a social media personality who grew in popularity after eating raw meat in his videos, was arrested a few hours ago. The news was confirmed by Alex Jones on his independent news network, while videos of the arrest appeared on Johnson’s Instagram page. He was arrested at a hotel in Downtown Austin.
Apparently, the reason why Johnson arrived in Austin was to attack UFC commentator and podcast host Joe Rogan. According to Jones, the Liver King has been arrested on charges of terroristic threats. His recent videos against Rogan grew more aggressive, with one of the videos featuring him in a wolf costume and holding what appeared to be gold-plated guns.

The Maga right has responded to the explosive feud between Donald Trump and Elon Musk largely with pleas for the American president and world’s richest man to reconcile, if only for the greater good of Republican Party dominance.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s bromance appears to be over after the president and the world’s richest man went after each other with a vengeance on Thursday. Trump implied Musk’s opposition to his legislative agenda is the result of Trump Derangement Syndrome, called the Tesla billionaire “Crazy,” and threatened to cancel Musk’s federal contracts. Musk called Trump “sad,” alleged the president is on the Epstein list, and even suggested he should be impeached.

It was like the Twitter of old on Thursday, as users on the site now known as X reveled at the jaw-dropping and very public “big, beautiful breakup” between Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
The entirely predictable split between Trump and Musk finally came to pass as long festering resentment spilled out into all-out social media fighting. The very catty barbs escalated so much that Musk alleged that Trump’s name was in the Epstein Files, and the president fired back that the U.S. government take away the billions in federal subsidies it gives to Musk’s Tesla and SpaceX.
The unbecoming and unedifying spectacle of the world’s most powerful man and the world’s richest man throwing insults and horrific allegations at each other, predictably, was met by concern and embarrassment for both Trump and Musk supporters, confused as they were by a feud between their two Maga heroes.

Prisoners shows Hugh Jackman like most people have never seen him. He plays Keller Dover, a desperate father who snaps when his daughter goes missing. But unlike most of his other films, here he does not play the calm, composed hero people are used to. Instead, he’s someone who gets driven to the edge and pushed beyond reason.
The Plot of Prisoners Is Simple, But Hits Hard
Prisoners, directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Aaron Guzikowski, tells the story of two girls who vanish one cold Thanksgiving day. Keller’s daughter and the daughter of his friends, Franklin (Terrence Howard) and Nancy Birch, are gone, and they are last seen near a creepy old Rv. The driver is a young man named Alex Jones, but there’s no evidence to hold him.

The Supreme Court refused to hear a case brought by casino mogul Steve Wynn, who had sought to make it easier for plaintiffs to pursue libel complaints.
Wynn’s lawsuit against the Associated Press was among the cases denied certiorari today.
Wynn had sued the Associated Press and reporter Regina Garcia Cano over an article on rape allegations against him that dated to the 1970s.
For more than 60 years, Supreme Court precedent in the case New York Times vs. Sullivan has guided libel law, including the standard that public official plaintiffs had to show that published statements were defamatory and made with actual malice. Another case several years later determined that public figures also had to meet the threshold for their claims to proceed.
The case was dismissed under Nevada’s anti-slapp statute, and the state Supreme Court affirmed that ruling, finding that Wynn had failed to show that the...

Dan Stevens, the star of films like The Guest, Beauty and the Beast and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, recently appeared in the new political thriller series, Zero Day. Batman movies have The Joker, the Scream franchise has Ghostface, and documentaries have… Woody Allen?
The disgraced comedian and filmmaker was the subject of the 2021 HBO docuseries Allen v Farrow, which re-examined the 1992 criminal investigation that was launched in response to allegations that Allen molested his daughter, Dylan Farrow. Now Allen has popped up in another doc, and, yet again, his role is that of an antagonist.
Hitting theaters in the U.K. this week is Twiggy, a new documentary from director Sadie Frost all about English model and “‘60s fashion icon” Twiggy, aka Dame Lesley Lawson.
Of course, the film covers Twiggy’s 1967 trip to New York City when she was just 17. She was accompanied by her manager/boyfriend who was 10 years older, and who, according to The Guardian, “became an oppressive and unfaithful controlling figure.” But clearly whoever put together this cheery newsreel footage at the time seemed...

The following contains mild spoilers about “Zero Day.”
Conspiracy thrillers can feel like a dime a dozen in this age of streaming and limited series, with everyone looking for a good binge, filled with suspense and mystery, to take them away from it all, if only for six or eight hours.
Yet amid the chaotic, unsettling nature of the current political moment, such material hits differently, and especially so with Netflix’s latest entry in the genre, “Zero Day,” which consciously leans into current events — down to its slogan, “The Truth Has Been Weaponized” — by conspicuously and self-consciously paralleling them.
In that sense, the six-episode project that premiered Friday potentially lays bare a challenge facing development executives more broadly as they look ahead, to the extent the show’s themes come across as less escapist than exhausting.
Marking his first foray into TV series, Robert De Niro heads a genuinely star-studded cast,...

Tom Holland is currently re-loading his web shooters for the upcoming Spider-Man 4 in the MCU. The film has officially been announced by Marvel Studios, although plot and production details remain a closely guarded secret. As a result, fans are furiously debating online about which characters should and should not return for the fourth outing, especially after the shocking ending of No Way Home — which saw the world forget about Peter Parker, including his friends Mj (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon). Any actor that has had even the slightest hint of involvement with the McU's Spider-Man franchise is now being asked about potentially returning for the fourth outing, and J.K. Simmons is the latest.
During an interview with ScreenRant to promote the ongoing third season of Prime Video's Invincible, Simmons was asked about returning as J. Jonah Jameson for Spider-Man 4. Unlike his comedically loose-lipped co-star, Tom Holland, Simmons refused...

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones announced on social media that he wants to be President Donald Trump‘s White House press secretary. It was unclear whether Jones was joking – Trump recently named Karoline Leavitt, 27, as the youngest press secretary in history.
During the first press briefing of Trump’s second administration, Leavitt announced that Trump would speak to a wide range of media outlets with special chairs in the press room designated for “new media.”
“In keeping with this revolutionary media approach that President Trump deployed during the campaign, the Trump White House will speak to all media outlets and personalities, not just the legacy media who are seated in this room,” Leavitt stated.
She also mentioned that “millions of Americans, especially young people, have turned from traditional television outlets and newspapers to consume their news from podcasts, blogs, social media and other independent outlets.”

President Donald Trump’s mass pardons and commutations for Jan. 6 seditionists, terrorists, obstructionists, and hundreds of other felons dealt a stark blow against the rule of law. The executive action has done what Trump has long accused other countries of doing — flooded America’s streets with dangerous criminals.
Trump’s clemency spree wiped the slate clean for violent actors, including those who bashed Capitol police during the insurrection. And it’s likely to act as encouragement for militant Maga factions who think they, too, can now get away with anything.

Since the Golden Age of Hollywood, the thriller genre has captivated audiences around the world, from classic Hitchcock movies like Rear Window to modern gems like The Departed. Using anything from murder mysteries and gangster epics to serial killer stories and assassination plots, the genre appeals to the audience's love of mystery and suspense. While some films in the genre opt for a bigger focus on action, others hone in on suspense, disturbing and even terrifying the audience.
A strong thriller can often be enough to play on the anxieties and worst fears of the audience, exploring some of the most brutal and harrowing crimes imaginable. Others make great use of talented actors channeling terrifying villains to keep the viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end. The genre has no shortage of compelling tales of suspense, but some stand out ahead of the rest.

Thanks to an aggressive dry season and hurricane-force winds, Los Angeles is experiencing the most devastating fires in the city’s history. At least five people have died and over 130,000 residents in Southern California are under evacuation orders, according to the Los Angeles Times. L.A officials have said at least 2,000 structures have been burned and, per California Gov. Gavin Newsom, over 7,500 fire personnel have been deployed to battle the blaze. Even residents whose homes are safe for now must contend with dangerous smoke conditions, hazy skies, and falling ash. L.

A series of powerful wildfires has turned large swaths of Los Angeles into smoldering ruins. As first responders attempt to control the blazes, heavy winds are quite literally fanning the flames — to the point that the fires have now been ravaging the city for days. There is a clear link between climate change and the severity of recent wildfires. Climate-denying conservatives are instead blaming the devastation on California’s “woke” politics.

On the eve of a jury trial in June 2017, Disney settled a defamation lawsuit brought by a beef company for a whopping $177 million. The case stemmed from a series of ABC News reports in 2012 fronted by star anchor Diane Sawyer that dubbed the processed meat “pink slime.” At the time, it marked the largest settlement or jury award ever for a libel case and has since been eclipsed only by Alex Jones ($1.438 billion to Sandy Hook families) and Fox News ($787.5 million to Dominion Voting Systems).
Fast forward to 2024, and George Stephanopoulos is now the face of ABC News and one of the highest-paid anchors on TV, making up to $18 million per year. And inside Disney’s C-suites on the Burbank lot, there was a feeling of déjà vu thanks to a looming defamation lawsuit filed in March by former and incoming President Donald Trump, a far more powerful and strident...

George Clooney might seem like a fun-loving sort, but he is a man who takes his movie stardom seriously. Yes, he's a notorious practical joker who once affixed a frame to Brad Pitt's license plate that read "F*** Cops," but, really, when he's not trying to get his "Ocean's Eleven" co-star arrested, he cares deeply about his craft. If you doubt this, you should perhaps read the book "George Clooney: Anatomy of an Actor," which examines ten of his most significant film performances in some detail — and, yes, I am just recommending this book because I wrote it.
Though Clooney does come from a long line of entertainers, most prominent among them his aunt Rosemary Clooney, he's more than earned his A-list stature. After struggling throughout the 1980s by appearing in past-their-prime sitcoms ("The Facts of Life") and literally...

We supposedly live in an age where there are no more movie stars, which would make Timothée Chalamet somewhat of an anomaly. The 28-year-old fronted a string of box office hits in 2023 and 2024, proving that he has that unique movie star appeal that makes general audiences pay for tickets simply based on the fact that Chalamet is the star.
After his Willy Wonka origin story, "Wonka," made more than $600 million worldwide in December 2023, the Chalamet-fronted sci-fi epic "Dune: Part Two" crossed box office milestone after box office milestone in 2024, becoming one of the biggest movies of the year. He's also playing living legend Bob Dylan in James Mangold's "A Complete Unknown," and if his last two movies are anything to go by, that particular biographical drama should benefit from Chalamet's presence greatly.
But it's taken a while for the young actor to reach this stage of movie stardom. Before...

The Onion will continue to try to find a path to buying Infowars after a federal bankruptcy judge rejected their bid late Tuesday.
Though the satirical news site’s bid for the Alex Jones site had been selected in November, Judge Christopher Lopez, of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, said Tuesday that there were problems with transparency during the sealed bidding at the November auction, according to multiple media outlets. He further found that the sealed bidding process did not maximize the value for Jones’ creditors, who include the families of the Sandy Hook shooting victims.
Ben Collins, CEO of Global Tetrahedron, The Onion’s parent company, said the company will “continue to seek a resolution.” The Onion had worked with the Sandy Hook families and had a total bid of $7 million, which included $1.75 million in cash. The rest came from the Sandy Hook families,...

A bankruptcy judge rejected The Onion’s planned acquisition of Alex Jones’ Infowars via a bankruptcy auction.
In a ruling issued late Tuesday, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez faulted the auction process, per the AP.
Last month, The Onion won the bidding for Infowars, which has been forced to sell its assets after a $1.4 billion defamation judgment in favor of the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting massacre. The satirical news site planned to relaunch Infowars in January, with Everytown for Gun Safety working with them as advertising partner.
“We are deeply disappointed in today’s decision, but The Onion will continue to seek a resolution that helps the Sandy Hook families receive a positive outcome from the horror they endured,” Ben Collins, the CEO of The Onion, said in a statement.
He said that they would “continue to seek a path towards purchasing Infowars in the coming weeks.

In a written ruling Tuesday evening, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez called the bidding process for the assets of Infowars flawed, though he also said he did not want to restart the auction process and would leave it up to a bankruptcy court trustee to determine how things will move forward.
The Onion originally offered $1.75 million in cash, plus another $5.5 million in future income. The bid was back by the families of victims who were killed in a 2012 school shooting; Jones had previously disparaged the victims and their families, leading to numerous lawsuits that resulted in...

A federal judge overseeing a bankruptcy case involving radio broadcaster Alex Jones has intervened in the acquisition of his Infowars website, trademark and related assets by The Onion.
On Thursday, the judge, Christopher Lopez, ordered an evidentiary hearing to determine if a blind auction related to the disposition of the Infowars assets was conducted fairly and in line with his earlier rulings.
“We’re all going to an evidentiary hearing, and I’m going to figure out exactly what happened,” Lopez said on Thursday, adding that “no one should feel comfortable with the results of this auction.”
The auction was connected to Lopez’s earlier ruling that the bankruptcy cases involving Jones and his Free Speech Systems should be converted into a liquidation. The satirical newspaper The Onion has successfully acquired Infowars and its associated intellectual property, finally divesting conspiracy theorist Alex Jones of the right-wing disinformation outfit.
According to Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter, the deal grants The Onion ownership of Infowars’ “website, product inventory, customers lists, social media accounts, and intellectual property.”
In a series of lawsuits adjudicated in 2022, Jones was ordered to pay $1.5 billion to the families of Sandy Hook victims over his repeated false claims that the 2012 massacre of children at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut was a hoax.

The satirical news website The Onion has emerged as the winner of a blind auction for the trademark and website of Infowars, the conspiracy-laced publishing platform operated by radio personality Alex Jones.
The acquisition was confirmed in a column published on The Onion’s website and written by Bryce P. Tetraeder, the fictitious CEO of the outlet’s parent company Global Tetrahedron.
Tetraeder did not say how much the company paid for the Infowars website, trademark and related assets, but did say that the final purchase was sanctioned by a group of families whose children were killed during a shooting spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012. The families sued Jones for defamation and harassment tied to comments he made about the incident on his radio program, and the auction was intended to settle certain debts Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems, owed after two blockbuster civil judgements were entered against him.

The families sued Jones for defamation and harassment tied to comments he made about the incident on his radio program, and the auction was intended to settle certain debts Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems, owed after two blockbuster civil judgements were entered against him.

The fate of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ broadcasting career will largely be decided on Wednesday when the trademark and website associated with his Infowars show, along with nearly all the equipment used to produce the show, go up for auction.
The court-mandated auction has already attracted a number of potential bidders who have signed non-disclosure agreements and committed to depositing a percentage of their wagers, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Those bidders include one person who has wagered at low seven-figure amount in an effort to ensure Jones can continue broadcasting from his Texas studios for the foreseeable future, the person said, requesting anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter.

The detective-thriller follows Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman) on the search for two girls after they disappear from a Thanksgiving dinner. Prisoners takes an incredibly dark turn when Keller takes charge of the situation, torturing the suspected kidnapper, Alex Jones (Paul Dano) ahead of the film's exceptional climax.
Prisoners' cryptic ending intentionally leaves the film open, but the uncertain outcome of Keller's fate was not the only version considered. It's important to note that Villeneuve originally filmed two different endings for Prisoners before he settled on the ambiguous conclusion. The story highlights the painstaking lengths people will go to for their loved ones and does not shy away from delving into the...
