“Saturday Night Live” is known for making audiences laugh for the past 50 years, but it is not complete without the iconic live music performances that have cemented their own place in pop culture.

“SNL50: The Homecoming Concert” brought together over 25 artists who made a mark on the sketch show live from Radio City Music Hall. The concert event features musical guests spanning the series’ half-century on the air.

Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Snoop Dogg and The B-52s, among many others, performed live during the homecoming concert, while “SNL” alum Jimmy Fallon hosted, featuring his own late night show’s band, The Roots.

The surviving members of Nirvana once again reunited — this time with Post Malone — at the all-star Saturday Night Live 50 concert Friday at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.

Introduced by Adam Sandler, who reminisced about when Kurt Cobain and company played SNL when he was a cast member, “Post Nirvana,” — Malone, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear — roared through a rendition of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” during the show.

Saturday Night Live is celebrating 50 years and got together a group of stars to commemorate the milestone. Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were among the celebrities who attended SNL50: The Homecoming Concert and participated in a funny bit.

During the concert special, host Jimmy Fallon clarified that the three-hour show would only present musical guests and not hand out awards.

“Apparently, there’s been some confusion,” Fallon said. “This is just a concert. We’re not giving out any awards tonight. So, I just want to make sure that everyone knows that.”

As Fallon clarified the show’s purpose, Hanks and Wilson were seen in the background exiting Radio City Music Hall, causing laughter among the audience.

The Californians was a recurring sketch on NBC’s late-night comedy show that mocked the California accent in a soap opera setting.

Wiig, Hader, and Armisen formed a love triangle in the series of sketches that featured the characters naming all the streets and freeways around the Los Angeles area.

Years later, Lady Gaga is poking fun at those pesky rumors with an era-appropriate pop culture banger.

The 14-time Grammy winner joined Andy Samberg onstage Friday at Radio City Music Hall for SNL50: The Homecoming Concert, where they began performing her A Star Is Born track “Shallow” before deciding to do a selection more in Samberg’s “vocal range.”

“There is one song, but Justin [Timberlake’s] not here to do his parts,” he said, to which Gaga replied, “Andy, don’t be a b*tch. I’ll do it with you.”

The pair then launched into a performance of The Lonely Island’s “Dick in a Box” from the 2006 SNL Christmas episode.

Tracy Morgan took the SNL50: The Homecoming Concert stage and jokingly called out Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels for not letting him sing.

The comedian appeared during Friday’s show at Radio City Music Hall and said Michaels had disrespected him.

“Is everyone having a good time?” Morgan asked the audience, who largely cheered, adding, “Well, I’m not!”

“I’ve been disrespected!” he continued. “Lorne Michaels, you have disrespected me b*tch!”

SNL alum Bill Murray graced the stage Friday at Radio City Music Hall in New York City as he reprised his smooth-talking character Nick the Lounge Singer (aka Nick Valentine) from the NBC sketch comedy show, accompanied by Paul Shaffer on piano.

Following a humorous monologue about “an increasing acceptance of different types of families, different types of relationships,” before introducing “three of the most beautiful ladies a man could ever hope to meet.”

Old friends are sometimes the best (and funniest) friends. At least it looked that way Wednesday night when Jimmy Fallon welcomed a trio of his Saturday Night Live peers to the Studio 6B set of The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon in New York for some skits, laughs and shared memories.

The reunion was for good reason. The alums gathered just days ahead of the much anticipated SNL50: The Anniversary Special airing in primetime on NBC and Peacock on Sunday. And they showed off some of the skills they honed during their respective runs on the iconic sketch show by participating in a “Tonight Show Joke Off,” a riff on SNL’s “Weekend Update” segment during which they battled it out for the best punchlines.

Fey and Poehler, who have a Restless Leg tour scheduled for spring and summer, then stuck around to join Fallon in the chairs for a chat about the upcoming special.

If you were to imagine the most-watched “Saturday Night Live” sketches of all time, certain characters would likely come to mind. Mike Myers and Dana Carvey’s Wayne and Garth would likely make that hypothetical list as would the Coneheads, The Blues Brothers and maybe even MacGruber. But when you actually look through the numbers of the “SNL” YouTube page, that’s not what you find.

Overall, the most watched “SNL” sketches tend to be far more modern. That’s not entirely surprising given that, in general, videos that were released after the start of the internet age tend to be more widely watched. But even though the oldest sketch on this roundup happened in Season 29, this compilation still serves as a celebration of some of the NBC show’s best performers.

Amelia Dimoldenberg, the creator and host of the viral chat show, has been booked to be the star correspondent for the SNL50: Red Carpet Livestream. It will air across all SNL social and digital platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X and TikTok from 7-8 p.m. Et on Sunday, Feb. 16 ahead of the milestone SNL50: The Anniversary Special in primetime on NBC and Peacock.

NBC will mark the 50th anniversary of “Saturday Night Live” by rebroadcasting the first-ever episode of the show on Feb. 13. The episode originally aired on Oct. 11, 1975 under the name “Saturday Night,” and was hosted by George Carlin with musical guests Billy Preston and Janice Ian.

The first “SNL” episode will re-air on NBC on Feb. 15 at 11:30 p.m. Et/Pt and features the iconic Not Ready for Primetime Players: Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman and Gilda Radner. The episode also features Andy Kaufman and Jim Henson. The making of the episode was fictionalized in Jason Reitman’s 2024 film “Saturday Night.”

The episode drew 5.0 million viewers on NBC and, on Peacock, ranked as the steamer’s third best livestream on record, according to Nielsen and internal NBCU viewing figures.

The Chalamet-hosted episode was also buzzy on social media, generating more than 300 million viewers across all social platforms.
