Zee5’s Silence… Can You Hear It? is an investigative drama film about the death of a young girl who was the daughter of a retired justice. Crime thrillers are a rage in the Ott space, and there are multiple films and television shows in the genre that are either brilliant or plain bad. Mumbai, March 16 (Ians) National Award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee plays the protagonist in "Silence... Can You Hear It?", and he feels the title of the upcoming web film builds an element of intrigue.

"I have never explored the mystery thriller genre as an artiste. From the moment I read the script, I was excited. The name of the film leaves the audience thinking about it and builds that intrigue. We have finally released the trailer. My character is eager, determined and extremely impatient to solve the case. Acp Avinash (his character) is nothing without his team. A picture of the actor looking frail had recently gone viral on the internet, raising concerns that he was suffering from cancer.

Of course, filmmakers disguise these elements in the social message films, the love stories, the thrillers, and countless other genre-pictures. If we want something to break up the tension of love scene, add some dishoom-dishoom, or if you want to cool that down, throw in some smart comedy. The ability to freely mix genres and tropes was expertly done in the juggernaut Amar, Akbar, Anthony (Aaa). Chisel a big log of wood in the form of a human being, more or less looking like Ram Charan Teja, and make it wear the khaki uniform. What do we get out of this exercise? Unfortunately, Acp Vijay Khanna, protagonist of "Thoofan", which gives Ram Gopal Varma's remake of "Sholay", a tough competition. Forget fans of the 1973 film "Zanjeer" and even Amitabh Bachchan fans - even for any regular cinema patron, "Thoofan" is like paying money to dig your own grave.

For starters, "Zanjeer" is not a bilingual film as claimed by its makers. Barring scenes involving Sri Hari, the rest.

The biggest hurdle that a remake has to cross is the passion of the fans of the original. Zanjeer 1974 was no ordinary film. There was so much to this film that made it extraordinary: classic in status, the Angry Young Man icon for Amitabh Bachchan, the genre shift from romance to action with story-telling and let’s not forget Mona Darling. Pretty hefty stuff if you think about it. Nevertheless, the fresh team for Zanjeer 2013 headed by Apoorva Lakhia, has had a debut, a comeback of sorts and enough off screen drama to give a bit of original hype to the remake. But hype doesn’t make up for audience impact nor an entertaining story. Rajesh Khanna, who has died aged 69 after a long illness, was Indian cinema's first superstar. At the height of his fame he generated adulation that sometimes verged on mass hysteria and appeared in 15 consecutive hit films over the course of three years.

He first achieved acclaim in Aradhana (Worship, 1969), playing two roles – the husband and grown-up son, both air force pilots, of the established star Sharmila Tagore. Notable among the romantic drama's musical numbers was the sexy Roop Tera Mastana (Your Beauty Is Intoxicating), recorded in a single take, a first for Hindi cinema.

It is with sadness we must report that Rajesh Khanna, the first superstar of Bollywood, passed away this morning at the age of 69. The actor had been in and out of hospital in recent weeks. The cause of his health problems was unclear.

Khanna passed away in the presence of his ex-wife Dimple Kapadia, daughters Rinkie and Twinkle, son-in-law Akshay Kumar, grand children and close relatives.
