She is a Kolkata based Independent Film Maker.In her early days Anumita has organized various Eco - Socio Cultural programs sponsored by Bangla Sahitya Akademy of West Bengal, India. She has also worked in association with the famous Indian social activist Medha Patkar in her organization National Alliance of People's Movement (NAPM), an alliance of hundreds of progressive people's organizations. Her passion towards acting and direction started quite early during her college days. She started acting in plays in her college theatre group. She also directed quite a number of plays during this time. In the early days of her film career she also assisted the famous director Purnendu Patri as a First Unit Director. She completed an appreciation and a Film & Video Editing course. Anumita started an ad-agency as well as film production house. She established herself as a producer and director of several TVCs for well known brands like Berger Paints, Rochees Watch, Cizer Watch, Peerless Inn etc.. She produced a telefilm called Niyati for Zee Bangla TV Network. She also established a Film and Tv institute in Kolkata, where students enroll every year for various courses on acting, direction, video editing etc. The classes here are conducted by Renowned Film and Theatre personalities. Anumita produced and directed a number of shows for television. Around 2007-2010, she produced a chat show hosted by the veteran actor Dhritiman Chatterjee where the guests were Aparna Sen and Supriya Devi. From 2007 inwards she produced 77 episodes of a popular chat show for the Tara Channel. She also directed a Documentary film "Women in search of Freedom" produced by UNICEF. In 2013 Anumita directed her first feature film Jumeli , it was released on 13th February, 2013, For this film she received the prestigious Aravindan Puraskaram from Trivandrum, in the category of Best Debutante Director. Some of the other films participating in this competition were Urochithi (Bengali), Chaplin (Bengali), Dhobi Ghat (Hindi), Spandan (Marathi), Love You to Death (English), Ivan Megharoopan (Mal), Byari (Kannada) and few others. Jumeli attended many Film Festivals. In the year 2019, she made another feature film Bohoman, Starring Soumitra Chatterjee, Aparna Sen, Bratya Basu, Arpita Chatterjee and others. It has got two Awards in Telengana International film festival for Best supporting Actor Male and Female.
