Residing in Chicagoland, Illinois (USA) and originally from Lusaka, Zambia, Michelle Devon (pronounced 'de-ven' and formerly Michelle Dali), is a multimedia artist, filmmaker, and musician or producer.
Michelle's journey with the arts began in childhood with a keen interest shown towards drawing. Throughout her childhood and teen-hood, Michelle was a heavy pencil artist who not only worked with pencil sketching but various paints. It was through a digital arts class that she encountered photography which became a part-time hobby after high school.
During those years, Michelle discovered the beauty that was possible through cinema as an art form. First falling in love with the world of film scoring including works from Thomas Newman, James Newton Howard, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, and more, Michelle's cinematic interests eventually grew towards style, performance, and direction.
Heavily influenced by innovative artistic direction and imagery, Michelle's works draw from acclaimed film directors such as Christopher Nolan, Denis Villenueve, Akira Kurosawa, and more.
An avid believer in lifelong education and various elements within metaphysics, Michelle hopes to also impart unto viewers analysis on lessons surrounding social, political, religious or spiritual meanings within life.
As a musician by the name of Arkanzet (pronounced 'ar-KAN-zet' ), Michelle's works know no limits. Influenced by several musicians and genres worldwide, Michelle has learned to fine tune her musical language and style to be fluid.
Through working with ultra simple tools and software (such as apps from the Novation company and others), Michelle's aim is to build sounds or beats that may reflect well known styles or genres but sometimes with newer elements applied.
Interests with genres range from Ambient, R&B, Electronica, Industrial Techno, Trip Hop, and other global influences.
Direct musical influences include international figures such as Bjork, Massive Attack, Madonna, Enigma, Andreas Vollenweider, Susumu Hirawasa, Aphex Twin, Skee Mask, Andrea, Burial, and more. She is also a rock or metal musician under rock-project, Wyngs.
Apart from the arts, Michelle is proactive in the world of health, particularly with mental health. She runs a platform by the name of A System of Love, which addresses and provides online resources for those who have had troubled lives due to various mental illnesses and difficult life circumstances.
Having dealt with a life of poor mental health herself, Michelle has had to face or either overcome Dissociative Identity Disorder (D.I.D), Depression, Anxiety, Depersonalization, Derealization, Suicidal Ideation, Psychosis, and considers herself still healing from their effects. Having learned from those experiences, she hopes to use a System of Love as a platform to help others understand their own battles and empower them to take steps for recovery.
In her spare time, Michelle enjoys simple adventures, such as nature or city outings, libraries, cooking, quality time with close friends and church family, cozy or fun ASMR videos, funny memes, and of course a good film!
