- Graduated from Southwestern University Law School in 1979 and passed the California Bar the same year.
- Has two sons with her second husband. Travis Clark (b. 1989) and Trevor Clark (b. 1992).
- Worked for the Los Angeles law firm of Brodey & Price before resigning to become an Assistant District Attorney for Los Angeles County.
- She was not then Los Angeles District Attorney Gil Garcetti's first choice as lead prosecutor as he'd hoped to give the case to more experienced prosecutor Bill Hodgman but for a chronic heart defect that caused Hodgman to collapse during a strategy meeting.
- Graduated from Susan Wagner High School in Staten Island, New York in 1971. Her father had moved the family in January, so she couldn't graduate with her class. The school mailed her diploma to her.
- Graduated from UCLA in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in political science.
