Jake Moss is an artist, writer and filmmaker from Queensland, Australia. His childhood was spent in the suburb of Woodridge where he lived in housing commission for over a decade. He was raised in two separate households by his father, an ex-police officer, and his mother, who for a few years managed a brothel.
While in his 20s, Moss independently produced multiple solo exhibitions, plays, films and books, most of which focus on youth, Woodridge (or similar low-socioeconomic environments) and 'belonging'.
In 2019, Moss attended an art residency at Arteles Creative Centre in Finland that was facilitated by his mentor Margi Brown Ash. Since returning to Australia, he has exhibited in Brisbane, Sydney and Sunshine Coast. His latest film 'Boys Will Be' (2022) saw him create two versions of the same story (a drama version, followed by a comedy version) with each segment featuring the same actors in the same roles.
Jake's current studio is at his old high school St. Laurence's College, South Brisbane where he is the Artist-in-Residence.
