When he first met with Nickel Boys director RaMell Ross, cinematographer Jomo Fray was excited by the challenge of filming from a character’s perspective. “It was a completely different experience to anything I’ve ever shot,” says Fray. “As the cinematographer, you have to be present to the scene in a completely different way.”

Fray’s role became more performance based, and he had to pay close attention to the performances of Elwood and Tanner since he was shooting from their perspective. “I would watch rehearsals of Brandon (Wilson) and Ethan (Herisse), seeing how they were interpreting the characters’ physical motions, emotional movements… I’m inside the scene, so if something happens, I have to react and I have to react as the character whose perspective the camera is attached to.”

In addition to the movements and performances, Fray had to get into the minutiae of how it feels to see something.

Mor Ilderton has quit The Voice and unexpectedly abandoned Gwen Stefani’s team on the final night of the Knockouts round of the competition.

On Monday night’s episode of the NBC reality competition, coach Stefani shared with Mega Mentor Sting that she only had Jan Dan and Sydney Sterlace on hear team.

“We had Mor, who I stole, but he had to go home, so it’s just gonna be the two of them,” she told the “Every Breath You Take” singer.

With Ilderton abandoning the show, Sydney made it to the Playoffs, winning the Knockouts round, and Jan was pushed through after Stefani saved them.

It’s not clear why Ilderton left Season 26 of the show, but his social media has been active promoting a new single, “Stranger,” which is set for release on Friday, November 22.

Ilderton’s exit comes a week after another contestant abandoned The Voice.

Ahead of the Knockouts stage on The Voice, Tanner Frick abandoned the competition.

On Monday’s episode of NBC’s singing competition, host Carson Daly told coach Michael Bublé his contestant had left the show.

“Michael, Tanner [Frick] left the competition after rehearsals. You still have Cameron [Wright] and Sloane [Simon],” Daly said, noting Frick had “left the competition after rehearsals.”

Frick didn’t reveal the reason for his exit but shared a video on TikTok singing and captioned the post, “Aint nobody want me anyway.”

The singer auditioned for the coaches, singing Morgan Wallen’s “Thought You Should Know,” which made the four coaches turn their chairs around. Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani were captivated by Frick’s voice and battled to have him on their team.

Toni Vaz, an actor and activist who created the NAACP Image Awards, died on Oct. 4 in Woodland Hills, Calif. She was 101.

Vaz’s parents immigrated to the U.S. from Barbados and she was one of four siblings raised in New York City in the 1950s. Her mother did not allow her to watch movies. However, upon coming of age, Vaz moved to Hollywood where she was cast as an extra in the 1959 film “Tarzan, the Ape Man.” She performed a scene opposite MGM’s Leo the Lion.

After appearing in front of the camera for the first time, Vaz was cast in films like “Anna Lucasta” as well as “The Singing Nun,” leading her to transition to stunt work, which was a first for a Black woman.

Vaz worked as a double for Cicely Tyson on the TV series “Mission: Impossible,” performing daring stunts in front of the camera such as dangling from helicopters.

Toni Vaz — a trailblazing stunt performer, actress and activist, who also founded the NAACP Image Awards — has died at 101.

She died Oct. 4 in Woodland Hills, according to a spokesperson for Vaz, at the Motion Picture & Television Fund assisted living facility, where she was a longtime resident.

In addition to her acting roles and stuntwork that had her doubling for such stars as Cicely Tyson, she founded the NAACP Image Awards to honor her peers and encourage studios and producers to hire and honor a wider range of talent. The first Image Awards ceremony was held on Aug. 13, 1967 in the Beverly Hills Hotel’s International Ballroom.

However, she was not credited with founding the awards until 2021, when she was honored at the awards’ 52nd ceremony. “Black-ish” star Anthony Anderson introduced her. You can watch a clip of the moment below:
