Turned down a $1-million offer in 1985 to appear in a Gillette razor commercial, which would have required Gibbons and Hill to shave their beards; they claimed they were "too ugly" to be seen without them.

One of the few rock bands to have the same members for 30 years.

Frank Beard is the only member of the band without a beard.

The first songs that they played live in a movie were, in order: "The Battle Cry of Freedom", an instrumental version of "Doubleback" and "Clementine", all of which they played as the band at the town festival to dedicate the courthouse clock in Back to the Future Part III (1990). "Doubleback" was the only original song of the three, the other two dating back to before the film's time period. In the DVD commentary for Back to the Future Part III, it is stated by the director that the band was actually playing, but they were not playing what is heard in the finished film.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Houston [Texas] Hall of Fame in 2006.
