Adaptations of TV shows do not always end up working, but the American version of The Office stands as an exception. One of the most beloved sitcoms based on the Brit series of the same name, the series is soon getting a new spinoff starring the Og star, Oscar Nuñez.

While we will have Nuñez back, unfortunately, we won’t be getting one of The Office‘s most popular actors, Steve Carell. Given that it has some big shoes to fill and high expectations from the loyal fanbase, the upcoming spinoff should bring back some key cast members. Oscar Nuñez will return as Oscar Martinez in Peacock’s follow-up series to “The Office,” Variety has confirmed.

Sources say Nuñez will not be the central character in the upcoming mockumentary sitcom — which takes place in the same universe as “The Office” — as it is an ensemble series. But he is part of the show’s character mix, and has been in the opening script from the beginning.

There are no further details regarding Oscar’s role or storyline in the new show, which Greg Daniels is creating and executive producing with Michael Korman (“Nathan For You”).

The American Society of Cinematographers Awards were handed out Sunday night, with the film prize going to Edward Lachman for Maria.

This is Lachman’s first ASC win. He was previously nominated for Far From Heaven (2003), Mildred Pierce (2011), Carol (2016) and El Conde (2024). He received the ASC’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.

On the TV side, Richard Rutkowski won for Sugar in the episode of a half-hour series category, and Sam Mccurdy won for Shogun in the one-hour regular series category, while the limited or anthology series of motion picture made for television award went to Robert Elswit for Ripley.

The Spotlight Award was awarded to Jomo Fray, cinematographer of Nickel Boys.

The 2025 ASC Career Achievement in Television Award was awarded to Michael Goi, whose credits have included Web Therapy, Glee, American Horror Story and Scream Queens. Pete Romano was honored with the 2025 Curtis Clark ASC Technical Achievement Award for revolutionizing underwater cinematography.

“Maria” cinematographer Ed Lachman has won the top feature-film award at the American Society of Cinematographers’ ASC Awards, which took place on Sunday evening in Los Angeles.

The film, which charts the final week of opera diva Maria Callas’ life, is one of the five nominees in the Oscars Best Cinematography category and won over fellow Oscar nominees “The Brutalist,” “Conclave,” “Nosferatu” and “Wicked,” as well as “Dune: Part Two” and “A Complete Unknown.”

Fairly or not, Michael Scott's (Steve Carell) departure from "The Office" in Season 7 marks the dividing line between what many fans deem "Good Office" and "Bad Office." But there was another big departure after that: Ryan (B. J. Novak) left the series at the very beginning of Season 9, along with his on-and-off girlfriend Kelly Kapoor (Mindy Kaling).

Unlike Michael, however, Ryan and Kelly leaving was not treated with a lot of fanfare. Starring Loki's Owen Wilson and The Hangover's Ed Helms, Father Figures tells the tale of fraternal twin brothers who believe their father passed away when they were kids. As it turns out, their mother lied about that due to not knowing who their biological father actually was, leading them to want to find out that fact.

The film hit theaters on December 22, 2017, and only grossed $25 million at the box office on a $25 million budget. Since it hit Netflix in June 2023, new viewers have explored this R-rated comedy and its countless twists.

TV shows need compelling protagonists, but some great shows end up having more interesting supporting characters. The main character is the one who advances the plot and carries the bulk of the show's drama, but this doesn't always guarantee that they will be the audience's favorite. Supporting characters have the opportunity to bring something different to the show, and they are unburdened by the need to directly impact the main plot.

Comedy shows are more likely to have supporting characters who outshine the protagonist. In drama shows, the story is usually too important, so the protagonist has to be the most interesting character or the entire show could fall flat. The spot is from RepresentUS, a nonpartisan anti-corruption organization that includes figures like Ed Helms and Jennifer Lawrence on its board.

The central aim of the spot is to warn voters of messages that seek to dissuade people from voting. Before the New Hampshire primary, a robocall deepfake of Joe Biden’s voice was sent to voters that tried to discourage them from casting a ballot.

Others likenesses featured in the spot include Laura Dern and Orlando Bloom, while the real Rosario Dawson and Jonathan Scott appear at the end.
