- Dimitar Gochev is a Bulgarian film producer, director, and cinematographer.
Over the past decades, he has steadily put his talent as a cinematographer and his business acumen as a producer to build up the quality of Bulgarian cinema.
A student of art and cinematography, he gained his degree from the Bulgarian National Academy of Theatrical and Film Arts in 1991.
Immediately after, he seized the opportunity to create SIA Ltd., which would become Bulgaria's largest and most successful television and film production company - merging TV productions, films, and advertisement campaigns.
Under Gochev's leadership, SIA produced numerous award-winning films and commercials, and he continued to work as a cinematographer on many of the company's productions.
In 2000, Gochev founded Camera Ltd. to encourage Bulgarian filmmakers to seek broader international audiences and to promote international co-productions.
The company has produced more than 40 feature and documentary films, including "Mila from Mars," "Stoichkov," "Ave," "The Petrov's File," and "Sofia's Last Ambulance," many of which have won prestigious festival awards. Camera also worked with Academy Award-nominated director Milcho Manchevski and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Jean-Claude Carriere.
In addition to his work with Camera Ltd., Gochev has continued to push the boundaries of Bulgarian cinema, completing the first Bulgarian psychological thriller "Roseville" (2013), and producing the first Bulgarian "car chase" genre movie "Broken Road" (2017). He has also successfully finalized well-recognized international co-productions like "Endless Night" starring Juliette Binoche, Gabriel Byrne, and Rinko Kikuchi, and "The Porcupine" with Rade Serbedzija, Karl Markovics, and Franziska Petri.
His most recent international co-production with the Israeli TV Channel "HOT 8," the award-winning feature documentary "Next Generation," was selected as part of the "Library of International Center For MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma" in New York in 2020.
Over all of the decades of Gochev's work, his passion for storytelling and his commitment to pushing the boundaries of Bulgarian cinema have made him a driving force in the industry and a respected international filmmaker.- IMDb Mini Biography By: wotheff
