“It’s so nice to talk to The Hollywood Reporter,” Olivia Williams says, as we start our interview, “because I really had that Hollywood experience. I went from living in a damp basement flat in Camden Town to, in a matter of days, flying in a private jet to go on set of a huge Hollywood movie.”
Over the course of a single year, from 1997 to 1998, Williams (before then a jobbing British theater actress, doing commercials for Dove shower cream — “they asked me to audition in a bikini…I felt like giving up”) starred in three studio films: Kevin Costner’s The Postman, Wes Anderson’s Rushmore and M. Night Shyamalan’s The Sixth Sense. The Postman was a legendary flop. Rushmore an indie breakout. The Sixth Sense a gargantuan, global hit. Williams, it appeared, had arrived.

Fearless delivers its best episode yet as the international significance of the night Linda died is made clear…
This review contains spoilers.
See related Fargo season 3 episode 1 review: The Law Of Vacant Places
It’s mildly apt for Helen McCrory, who’s played lawyer Cherie Booth twice on screen, to be the lead in a series haunted by the ghost of her husband, Tony Blair. As “unreconstructed leftie” Emma Banville in Fearless, McCrory plays a legal mind with a very different stance on the decision to go to war in Iraq. It was a time of lies, says Banville in episode five. Dodgy dossiers, sexed-up intelligence, arrogant men who thought they could get away with anything… including framing an innocent (Rip Kevin Russell) for the murder of a schoolgirl.
That’s fiction, of course, but fiction that Fearless has tied in to real-world international politics with impeccable neatness.

According to the Internet, Yes.

Wouldn’t it be cute if David Beckham's daughter Harper and Molly Sims’ son Brooks grew up and fell in love? Well, they might have had their very first (play)date Tuesday (September 10) in a New York City park.
Becks was doing daddy duty when he ran into model/actress Sims. Because all beautiful famous people apparently know one another, the four spent time playing together.
But don’t think for one hot minute that the soccer star has the hots for this 40-year-old mommy. Nope, according to a London newspaper, Mr. Posh Spice has a different secret crush—on the wife of ex-British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Beckham’s former soccer teammate, Danny Murphy, says the blonde heartthrob once confessed that he carried a torch for 58-year-old Cherie Blair. With this revelation, things could soon get a bit spicy in the Beckham household!

The far out British director is following Sightseers with a micro-budget psychedelic civil war-era head trip. But don't rule him out of having a crack at Spider-Man one day
For its American release in May, the poster for Ben Wheatley's last film – the brutal caravan odyssey Sightseers – acquired a few extra elements. The UK version featured the Lake District's Bonnie and Clyde standing in a field. The Us poster added an axe. And some blood. And a corpse. And a caravan on fire. Just to be sure you got the message.
Wheatley's films themselves are a little more subtle, but the fact remains they tend to involve people doing horrid things to each other, the violence laced with extremely uncomfortable comedy. Sightseers was preceded by the nasty-funny Down Terrace and gripping hitman horror Kill List. Although Wheatley's uniquely effective style is often pegged as being typically English, he's attracted...

In her latest film Helen McCrory is once again playing a mature woman with a youthful lover. And why not, she asks? Though in real life, they'd have to fight off her husband, Damian Lewis, aka Brody from Homeland…
It's a good thing in an actor to know how to make an entrance, and Helen McCrory does. She arrives late – dashing in every sense. It's not possible to walk into a room unobserved wearing a coat like hers: the colour of wet sand, with fur cuffs and lapels. Nor can it pass uncommented upon. Is it as comfortable as it is beautiful? "Comfortable on me as it was on the fox," she says, with an air of self-mocking defiance, shrugging inside it: "It's from Paris," she adds, settling into the red leather corner banquette in Colbert, Sloane Square – a cafe engaged in a more doomed attempt than hers at recalling Paris.

Actor will donate the sustantial damages he received from News International to Hacked Off campaign for press reform
Hugh Grant has received substantial damages from News International after settling his claim for phone hacking by the News of the World.
The actor and press reform campaigner's solicitor confirmed on Friday the settlement for an undisclosed amount had been reached with Rupert Murdoch's News Group Newspapers, the News International subsidiary which published the Sunday tabloid until its closure last year.
Grant will donate the money to the Hacked Off campaign for press reform, of which he is a prominent backer, along with an additional personal donation, said his solicitor, Mark Thomson.
"Hugh Grant has today settled his claims for damages and other legal remedies arising out of the unlawful activities of News of the World journalists and others over a number of years," said Thomson. "News Group Newspapers have agreed...

Britain's Queen Elizabeth will attend a lunch at 10 Downing Street today (24.07.12). The monarch will dine with four Prime Ministers who have served her, Gordon Brown, Tony Blair and Sir John Major, as well as the present incumbent David Cameron, who has invited the queen and Prince Philip to the event as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations. But Margaret Thatcher, who served the royal between 1979 and 1990, is not planning to attend after largely withdrawing from public life. The prime minister's wife Samantha will also be present at the meal along with Sarah Brown and Lady Major, but Cherie Blair is unable to attend as she is travelling. A spokesman for Blair told...

Cherie Blair, the wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, has sued News Corp. and a former private investigator on its payroll for hacking into her phone. Blair filed the lawsuit Tuesday against News International, the British publishing subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch’s global media conglomerate, according to numerous reports. Mulcaire was a private investigator who worked with the now-defunct News of the World tabloid. He already served jail time for hacking in 2007, four years before the scandal erupted on a far larger scale in July of 2011. Murdoch, Chairman and CEO...

• David Cameron on the Merkel/Sarkozy EU plan
• Afternoon summary
9.00am: It's a big day for Europe. Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy are meeting to thrash out details of a plan that could set up a fiscal union in Europe and may (or may not) lead to some sort of resolution of the debt crisis. But this blog - like the UK - is sitting on the sidelines. My colleague Alex Hawkes will be covering the Merkozy meeting on the business live blog. And I'll be covering events at Westminster, where the most lively before 4pm will be Leveson - The Sequel, a star-studded committee hearing featuring Hugh Grant, Steve Coogan and Max Mosley who may well spend an hour telling MPs and peers exactly what they told Leveson.
Here's the diary for the day.

From the 'toothlessness' of the Pcc to Hugh Grant's middle name, we round up what 10 days of testimony has taught us
Over the past 10 days, a succession of famous faces, and some who are less well-known, have appeared at the Royal Courts of Justice to tell the Leveson inquiry into press standards about the worst excesses of the "gutter press". Lord Justice Leveson has listened intently from his lofty perch in courtroom 73 as his team has cross-examined those who feel they have suffered at the hands of the British media – an industry Tony Blair famously described as a "feral beast". As if that wasn't bad enough, two former journalists have lifted the lid on what it's really like to work for the tabloids. So what have we learned so far?
Comparing Rupert Murdoch's News Corp to a crime cartel is all the rage. Murdoch's nemesis, Labour MP Tom Watson,...

With roles in Martin Scorsese's latest and Sam Mendes's next Bond film, Helen McCrory has joined the establishment – on her terms
It is nine-all on the outdoor table-tennis table in Regent's Park, London, a score arrived at somewhat chaotically due to the fallen autumn debris on the playing surface. The match began with Helen McCrory protesting a lack of interest in the score, but things have become more intense as the winning 11-point mark approaches, and the 43-year-old actor (soon to appear as a Parisian grande dame in Martin Scorsese's children's film, Hugo) has put on glasses. She's stubbed out her cigarillo. As a shot missiles by she says, "Lucky bounce! The ball hit a twig!"
Ten-nine ... understandably she's stopped paying our interview such careful attention. Earlier, a question about Hugo elicited a brilliant digression about life on a "family-like" Scorsese film set, always waiting for a...

The Daily Mail's new corrections and clarifications column got off to a rocky start last week. Two of the items in Tuesday's column were of particular interest.
One was an apology for a story published on 19 July – "in common with other newspapers" – that falsely claimed the NHS was paying £32.27 for each loaf of gluten-free bread.
However, not in common with other papers - which apologised for the mistake ages ago (see here) - the Mail took far too long to admit its error.
But that was not nearly as delayed, or as extraordinary, as the other contentious item in that column – a wholesale climbdown on a story published on 19 March about the actor Neil Morrissey.
This article, headlined "Man behaving badly: TV star banned from bar near his idyllic French retreat after locals object to 'le binge drinking'", took up three-quarters of a right-hand page, 19.
It alleged that Morrissey had...
