Exclusive: After a rocky third season that saw the exit of co-developer/showrunner/director David S. Goyer amid production restarts and budget adjustments, things are looking up for Apple TV+’s sci-fi drama Foundation. With the completed third season not yet scheduled but likely to debut this year, the streamer and Foundation studio Skydance Television already are prepping a fourth installment of Isaac Asimov’s adaptation starring Jared Harris and Lee Pace.
Ian Goldberg (Fear the Walking Dead) has been tapped as new executive producer/showrunner, with a Season 4 writers room up and running, sources tell Deadline. Goldberg’s work on the show falls under an overall deal he has signed with Skydance TV, I hear.

Lee Pace and his co-star Mia Maestro have been friends for more than a decade. “I can’t believe I’m saying this in an interview,” chuckles Pace, “but Mia and I did the last ‘Twilight’ film together. However, that was kind of just the very beginning of our friendship.” It was through Maestro, the lead in Lucio Castro’s critically acclaimed 2020 debut feature film “End of the Century,” that Pace was introduced to the filmmaker. Now the actors star together in Castro’s “After This Death,” which premieres Feb. 19 as a Berlinale Special Gala. The drama follows Isabel (Maestro), a pregnant woman who gets entangled in a passionate affair with an enigmatic alternative musician Elliot (Pace), after meeting him while hiking alone in upstate New York. However, the beguiling Elliot soon becomes distant and disappears without warning. This leaves Isabel to face unsettling threats from Elliott’s obsessive fans...

Sometimes there’s a song within you that just needs to come out, as many a musician has said in a puff-piece interview. But what if you’re not sure it’s your voice fighting its way up your throat? Argentine writer-director Lucio Castro dangles this question in “After This Death,” a quivery, elusive and strangely moving psychological drama that flirts with outright horror-tinged silliness — only to be pulled back from the brink by the quiet emotional gravity applied to a cryptic scenario. If not quite as fully, radiantly formed as Castro’s 2019 debut, the time-slipping queer heartbreaker “End of the Century,” this unusual, sleekly atmospheric item nonetheless sees the filmmaker clearing the difficult-second-album hurdle — with, aptly enough, a story that hinges on a singularly complicated album recording process.
Much credit for “After This Death” succeeding as well as it does is owed to Castro’s compatriot and leading lady Mia Maestro,...

Walters Media Group has secured the film rights to The Third Parent, the well-known creepypasta story by Elias Witherow. The adaptation will be the feature debut of producer David Michaels, who will both write and direct the film.
Set during a 4th of July celebration, the story follows Tommy Taffy, a menacing figure who disguises himself as human to infiltrate a suburban neighborhood. Once inside, he imposes an authoritarian rule over an unsuspecting family, turning their world into a nightmare.
“I am thrilled to develop Elias Witherow’s popular horror IP into an intense, scary movie experience,” said producer Gary Michael Walters. “Tommy Taffy has the potential to be the next iconic horror villain, and David Michaels has an incredible vision to bring this property to life.”
Michaels expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “I am honored that Elias and Gary have entrusted me with this incredible story and character.

Argentinian writer-director Lucio Castro made a quiet stunner of a first feature in 2020 with the exquisitely evocative queer romance, End of the Century. Trading the beaches and parks of Barcelona for woodsy upstate New York in the fall, the filmmaker delivers a self-consciously enigmatic drama that includes a messianic electro-psychedelic rock star with a cult following, a torrid affair, a family tragedy, a near-fatal hiking accident and a car careening over a bridge, its driver missing and eventually presumed dead. Oh, there’s also toxic fandom that becomes a physical threat.
Despite all that and its momentous title, After This Death isn’t really about anything. Or at least nothing that holds the attention for long. Where End of the Century felt intimately personal, the new film is a studied and distancing slog that feels considerably longer and slower than its 96-minute run time. The script name-checks Hitchcock — specifically Vertigo...

Rupert Friend is heading into the Berlinale a little anxious.
The British actor, a veteran of the industry with major roles in Homeland, Pride & Prejudice and, most recently, Drew Hancock’s buzzy thriller Companion, was only a “whip of a thing” when Chéri premiered in competition at the 2009 Berlin Film Festival.
“I was 25 and it was probably my first big lead role,” the now-43-year-old tells The Hollywood Reporter. “From the first 20 seconds, you just felt the audience… lean back. The movie finished and it was the sound of one, slow clap. I just died.”
After this “bombing” of Stephen Frears’ Colette adaptation, Friend was a little wary of the spotlight. It impacted him for a long time after, he confesses, even though he landed the part of a key character in the wildly successful Showtime series Homeland shortly after.
It’s only right that Friend returns to Berlin with a vengeance: not one,...

Last July, cinephiles and lovers of cult films were given a blessing from the movie gods: an honest to god rerelease of “The Fall,” Tarsem Singh’s singular 2006 fantasy adventure epic. The movie, which stars Lee Pace in a dual role as an injured 1915 Hollywood stuntman and the hero of an epic tale he spins for a hospitalized little girl, was greeted with mixed reviews but love from its biggest fans upon its 2006 Toronto Film Festival premiere. In the years since its premiere, the film has developed a passionate little fandom, but actually tracking it down has proven more difficult than it should be — it’s been completely unavailable on streaming for years.

Silo is a dystopian sci-fi series created by Graham Yost (Justified) based on a series of novels by Hugh Howey. The season 2 finale aired on January 17 and fans are eager to find something to fill the void until the third season airs on AppleTV+.
The series is set in a dystopian future and follows a community that resides in an underground silo. The group is ruled by a set of regulations implemented years ago that were believed to be established for their own protection, but everyone has been living like this for so long that the original reasons have been lost. The Berlin Film Festival has unveiled the lineup for the 2025 edition, running February 13-23. It’s the first official lineup overseen by new artistic director and former BFI London Film Festival leader Tricia Tuttle, who succeeds Carlo Chatrian and brings her background as an American journalist and curator to the annual German showcase. She’s also working with co-directors of programming, Jacqueline Lyanga and Michael Stütz, to help reposition the Berlinale’s profile among the great global film festivals and lure bigger-name filmmakers in the process.
This year’s lineup, announced Tuesday, January 21, features new films from Richard Linklater, Michel Franco, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Hong Sangsoo (“What Does That Nature Say to You”), Radu Jude (“Kontinental ’25”), and Lucile Hadžihalilović (“The Ice Tower”). Already confirmed in the mix are “Mickey 17” from Bong Joon Ho and Ira Sachs’ Sundance premiere “Peter Hujar’s Day,” plus Tom Tykwer’s “The Light” opening the festival.

Following last week’s lineup announcement, the Berlinale 2025 has now fleshed out its slate with the Competition, Special, and Perspectives sections. Highlights include the world premieres of Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon starring Ethan Hawke, Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale, and Andrew Scott; Radu Jude’s Kontinental ’25; Hong Sangsoo’s What Does that Nature Say to You; Michel Franco’s Dreams starring Jessica Chastain; Lucile Hadžihalilović’s The Ice Tower starring Marion Cotillard; and Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s Hot Milk with Emma Mackey, Fiona Shaw, and Vicky Krieps.
The festival will also include international premieres from Julia Loktev, Mary Bronstein, Kahlil Joseph, and more. In terms of omissions for films that potentially could have been a strong fit: there’s no Steven Soderberg’s Black Bag, Wes Anderson’s German production The Phoenician Scheme, nor Berlinale regular Christian Petzold, who wrapped Miroirs No. 3 only a few months ago.

When Guardians of the Galaxy debuted in 2014, it was a breath of fresh air for the MCU, but years later certain aspects have not stood the test of time. James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy depicted the eponymous team’s adventures in the MCU timeline. Its irreverent humor, stellar soundtrack, and colorful characters made it an instant fan favorite. However, as time has passed and audience expectations have evolved, certain elements of the Guardians trilogy haven’t aged as gracefully as others.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy movie is widely considered one of the MCU’s best movies to date. It took a group of obscure Marvel characters and turned them into household names. The combination of retro aesthetics, heartfelt storytelling, and ensemble cast dynamics propelled the films to massive critical and commercial success. It was promptly followed by two sequels. However, as with any cultural phenomenon,...

The show follows Richards being chased by numerous hunters sent to kill him.”
Glen Powell leads the film. Karl Glusman (Watcher), Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding) and Daniel Ezra (“A Discovery of Witches”) also star. Furthermore, Josh Brolin was cast to play the central...

“The Running Man”: Release Date, Cast, Plot, and All You Need to Know About Glen Powell’s Next Movie
If you’ve ever found yourself knee-deep in a conversation about dystopian thrillers, there’s a good chance The Running Man has popped up at least once. Remember that 1987 classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger? The man who practically defines ‘action hero’ took on crazy villains like Fireball, Dynamo, and Subzero in a blood-pumping race for survival.
Well, the original was a blast, no doubt, but let’s be real—it was more about the spectacle than the substance. That said, the new adaptation is going to be a whole different beast. Starring Glen Powell, The Running Man is getting the overhaul it deserves, ready to elevate the story to an entirely new level.

Edgar Wright's directing return will arrive sooner, as his adaptation of Stephen King's The Running Man has been moved up the 2025 theatrical calendar. Previously adapted into the 1987 action thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the movie explored a dystopian future where incarcerated prisoners are forced to fight and evade a team of deadly hunters in a twisted reality television show. Wright's The Running Man stars Glen Powell, Katy O'Brian, Josh Broken, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, and William H. Macy.
While The Running Man marks Wright's long-awaited return since 2021's Last Night in Soho, Deadline is reporting that the release date for the remake is moving up in Paramount's schedule. After previously holding a November 21 release date, the action thriller has been moved up to release on November 7. This places the movie two weeks earlier than previously slated. Edgar Wright’s The Running Man was previously slated to hit theaters on November 21, 2025, but Paramount has bumped up the release to November 7, 2025. This will move it out of the way of Wicked: For Good, which is set for a November 21, 2025 release. The studio will also have access to more IMAX screens on the new date.
The new release date isn’t entirely free of competition, as The Running Man will now face off against Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands and Yorgo Lanthimos’ Bugonia, all of which are currently set to open on the same day.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum could provide audiences with a take on one major unanswered J.R.R. Tolkien question regarding Legolas. The Hunt for Gollum's story is based on the appendices of The Return of the King, detailing events set during The Fellowship of the Ring where Gandalf tasked Aragorn with capturing Gollum for information. Before the Council of Elrond and the creation of the Fellowship, Aragorn successfully captured Gollum and brought him back to Mirkwood for interrogation. Audiences may remember Mirkwood from The Hobbit films as the home of Legolas and his father, Thranduil.
With that in mind, there's reason to suspect Thranduil might have a role in the upcoming film, which would be exciting given Lee Pace's growing popularity in recent years. While The Hobbit paints him as something of a self-righteous figure, which resulted in his performance receiving a mixed response around the trilogy's release,...

If you think the most innovative science fiction shows are found on the Syfy Channel, think again: these days, they’re more likely on Apple TV+.
Over the past decade, the premium streamer has quietly amassed a library of sci-fi shows that offer new ways to explore the genre.
These shows lean on the classics but are largely shaped by how we’re experiencing life in the present moment.

Apple TV+ is definitely not the only champion of sci-fi today, but its popular shows Foundation and Silo are great examples of two new directions the genre seems to be moving in.
Hard Sci-Fi Versus Soft Sci-Fi
Just like other broad entertainment genres, sci-fi contains a ton of different subgenres depending on how nerdy you want to get. The biggest of these subcategories are hard and soft sci-fi.

In Thom Browne: The Man Who Tailors Dreams, German documentarian Reiner Holzemer, whose recent work has included films on the fashion houses of Dries Van Noten and Martin Margiela, tackles a designer with an instantly recognizable aesthetic but an aversion to introspection. That makes Browne a somewhat distant subject, an enigma, as one friend and colleague describes him. He prefers to keep the creative spark tucked away inside his head and let his garments speak for themselves.

Three years have gone by since it was announced that Edgar Wright was coming on board to direct a new take on the novel The Running Man, which was written by Stephen King under his Richard Bachman pen name. The Running Man was, of course, previously turned into a film back in 1987 that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and had little to do with the source material. Earlier this year, it was announced that Glen Powell of Top Gun: Maverick, Hit Man, and Twisters is following in the footsteps of Schwarzenegger to play the lead role in the new adaptation. Wright’s take on The Running Man is now in production and Powell has been spotted on the set – and yes, he was running. You can check out some of the images right here:

Foundation, Apple TV+'s adaptation of the Isaac Asimov novel series, first aired in 2021, with two seasons currently complete and a third on the way. The first season of Foundation received mixed-to-positive reviews, with praise going to the set design and acting of both Jared Harris, as protagonist Hari Seldon, and Lee Pace as the villain Brother Day, one of a series of genetic clones that rules the Galactic Empire. Season 1 picked up two Primetime Emmy nominations and won two Visual Effects Society Awards and that led to a second season, which premiered in 2023.

Exclusive: Lucasfilm has closed a deal with Simon Kinberg to develop a trilogy of Star Wars films. Kinberg will write the trio and produce them with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy.
I heard this will comprise Episodes 10-12 of The Skywalker Saga that began with George Lucas’s 1977 first film, which, along with Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, reshaped the global blockbuster game. Insiders disputed my intel that Kinberg will continue that storyline, saying this instead will begin a new saga, and sit alongside percolating Star Wars projects with James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi and Donald Glover.
