Deeply personal, timeless, and unforgettable.
Chihiro Nagamatsu is a composer and songwriter who weaves melodies that linger long after the final note. She sees music as a bridge to a more peaceful world, connecting cultures, emotions, and dreams, and she infuses heart and humanity into every project.
Her musical palette blends orchestral grandeur, instruments from around the world, and the raw beauty of sounds found in daily life, creating scores as diverse as the stories she brings to life.
Growing up in Japan, she trained in classical piano and traditional taiko drumming, using music as an outlet for joy and compassion by expressing her emotions on the piano. Through her father's volunteer work with a band of disabled musicians, she witnessed how music transcends age, language, and ability. These roots continue to shape her artistry and vision.
Now based near Toronto and raising two young children, Chihiro channels her passion for storytelling into film and animation. Whether composing scores or crafting songs, she is a collaborative and open-minded creator, always striving to bring something truly special to life.
Chihiro's score was selected for the Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra Film Scoring Contest and will be performed live in Toronto on March, followed by an ASMAC event in Los Angeles in fall 2025. She was also shortlisted for the ACE Project by Women in Animation & Netflix in 2024 and featured on Citytv's Breakfast Television for International Women's Day 2022, where she discussed the disparity of female music producers. In 2020, she won Best Score at the 48 Hour Film Project for the drama film Silenced.
