Arawinda Kirana grew up in Indonesia, and is an activist, performer and filmmaker. Her titular performance in the TIFF Platform Prize-winning feature YUNI (2021) is critically acclaimed by festival critics, Criterion, and Variety quotes "Excellent, performed with an unfussy and convincing naturalism". As a filmmaker and activist, she began with making documentaries in rural areas of Indonesia, to crafting stories that highlight social issues in the country-including environment, colorism, sexual assault. She studies at the University of Southern California with a scholarship directly from the School of Cinematic Arts, after spending two years in Jakarta Institute of Arts while dabbling working as a full-time actress. She founded the viral #BerkainBersama movement in Indonesia, reaching large audiences and sparking a cultural artistic revolution within the nation.
