Montreal’s Festival Du Nouveau Cinema (10.10 – 10.21) announced their line-up today for their 41st edition and among the smorgasbord of subtitle offerings dating back to this year’s Rotterdam, Berlin, Cannes, Locarno, Venice and Tiff editions, we’re knee-deep in avant-garde world cinema from the established auteurs Assayas, Vinterberg, Ozon, Sang-Soo, Joao Pedro Rodriguez, Larrain, Loach, Reygadas, Ghobadi, Mungiu and Miguel Gomes. Heavy on offerings from Quebec and France, the fest also manages to offer a stellar snapshot of the up-and-comers from all corners of the globe. Among the notable titles in the (Competition category) International Selection we’ve got Pablo Berger’s Blancanieves, Ursula Meier’s Sister, Brian M. The Greek film Dogtooth by director Yorgos Lanthimos won the $15,000 Louve D'Or prize [1] at the 38th Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinema at the weekend. The seriously twisted black comedy stunned audiences world wide starting at Cannes where it picked up the Prix Un Certain Regard [2]. Toronto ­-- Helene Cattet and Bruno Forzani¹s horror homage "Amer," a Belgium-France film that depicts three parts in a woman's life, took home the top audience award at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema.

Meanwhile, the Greek satirical film "Canine" from Yorgos Lanthimos took home the juried Louve d'Or trophy as Montreal's top auteur film festival wrapped Saturday night.

"Canine" won out over 16 other competition titles that included U.S. director Sean Baker's "Prince of Broadway"; "Les Signes Vitaux," by Canadian director Sophie Deraspe; Ryan Arnold's "Skidlove," also from Canada; and Johan Grimonprez's "Double Take," a Benelux co-production.

The Louve d'Or jury gave special mention to the China/Germany co-production "The Red Race" by Chao Gan.

Montreal's best acting award went to Magaly Solier, star of Claudia Llosa's Peruvian film "Fausta: La Teta Asustada."

The 38th Festival du nouveau cinéma Rolls Out Blue Carpet For Opening Night!

Montreal, Wednesday October 7, 2009 – The 38th Festival du Nouveau Cinéma officially gets underway tonight with the world premiere screening of Ladies in Blue by Claude Demers. Michel Louvain and the ladies in blue await you on the blue carpet as of 7 p.m. at the Imperial Cinema (Sandra & Leo Kolber Centre, Salle Lucie & André Chagnon) for an emotion-packed evening.

*Blue attire strongly encouraged!

Over 250 films from 48 countries will make up the bulk of 10 uninterrupted days of festivities where prestigious international guests and local filmmakers alike will present their works to Montrealers. The festival takes off on Thursday October 8 with the opening of its Focus and Temps Temps Ø sections at the Imperial Cinema (Sandra & Leo Kolber Centre, Salle Lucie & André Chagnon) with the films Nuages sur la ville by Simon Galiero at 7:30 p.

Just like me, were you pissed off because you had to stay in your hometown while the Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff) was happening? Well, it appears that the wait is over! In fact, the Festival du nouveau cinéma (Fnc) - which will be taking place in Montreal from October 7 to 18 - has revealed its line-up of Canadian films. Besides, this goes without saying that most of these films were previously shown at the Tiff.
