When viewers watch the ending credits for Netflix’s new series “The Sandman” — the long-anticipated adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed graphic novel series chronicling the phantasmagoric exploits of Morpheus, aka Dream, aka the Sandman (Tom Sturridge) — they’ll behold the curious sight of the logo for DC Entertainment. Indeed, “The Sandman” was published by Vertigo, an imprint of DC Comics, from 1989 to 1996, and in the first two volumes, which make up Season 1 of the Netflix series, there are several direct references to and characters from the wider world of DC Comics.

Much of those connections and references, however, have either been significantly altered or stripped away entirely from the live-action adaptation of “The Sandman.” For example, in the graphic novel, the villain John Dee (David Thewlis) is living within Arkham Asylum, Gotham City...

Charles Dance has been cast in Hulu’s “Washington Black” in the recurring role of James Wilde.

James is the father of Erasmus and Titch (Tom Ellis) Wilde. He is described as an esteemed scientist and inventor whose shadow looms over the entire story, bearing down with the enormous weight of patriarchy, empire and duty. At his core, Wilde is a man fighting to give himself permission to love the way he must, even as he reckons with his failings as a father. Exclusive: Rupert Graves has joined Hulu’s anticipated limited series Washington Black as a series regular, with Shaunette Renée Wilson signing on to a recurring role.

Graves and Wilson join a previously announced series regular ensemble led by Ernest Kingsley Jr. and Sterling K. Brown, which also includes Eddie Karanja, Tom Ellis, Iola Evans, Edward Bluemel and Sharon Duncan-Brewster.

Based on Esi Edugyan’s novel of the same name the nine-episode series follows the extraordinary 19th-century adventures of George Washington “Wash” Black, an 11-year-old boy on a Barbados sugar plantation who must flee after a shocking death threatens to upend his life. Lucifer may be over, but Tom Ellis is staying booked and busy.

According to Deadline, the actor has joined the cast of Hulu's forthcoming adventure series Washington Black.

This Is Us veteran Sterling K. Brown also stars and exec-produces the new project.

Washington Black is adapted from Esi Edugyan's bestselling novel.

It follows the extraordinary 19th-century adventures of George Washington “Wash” Black (newcomer Eddie Karanja), an 11-year-old boy on a Barbados sugar plantation who must flee after a shocking death threatens to upend his life.

Brown will play Medwin Harris, who traveled the world after a traumatic childhood as a Black refugee in Nova Scotia and takes Wash on as his protégé.

Ellis is set to play Christopher "Titch" Wilde, "an eccentric, passionate Steam-Punk inventor whose youthful enthusiasm masks an inner vulnerability," according to Deadline.

The cast also includes Ernest Kingsley Jr.

Tom Ellis, TV’s erstwhile devil, is going to get his steampunk on with his first series regular role since Lucifer signed off.

Ellis has joined Washington Black, Hulu’s nine-episode adventure series starring and executive-produced by This Is Us Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown.

Hulu has ordered the sprawling nine-episode limited drama straight to series with filming due to begin next month for producer 20th Television.

The show will follow an 11-year-old boy who embarks on a globe-trotting journey of identity after fleeing a Barbados sugar plantation aboard a flying machine in the company of his master’s eccentric inventor brother.
