Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine’s age-gap romantic adventure “The Idea of You” attracted nearly 50 million worldwide viewers in its first two weeks on Prime Video, becoming Amazon MGM’s No. 1 romantic-comedy debut of all time, according to the studio.

As Amazon did not detail exactly what counts as a “view,” it should be noted that streaming viewership numbers self-reported by platforms still come with many caveats. Some brands solely report total minutes or hours watched, while others divide that total by each projects runtime to arrive at an estimated number of views. Streamers almost never disclose the exact number of viewers who watched the entirety of their titles, and as Amazon did not define their metric regarding “The Idea of You,” it is possible that a significant portion of the 50 million reporter viewers only watched a short piece of the movie.

South by Southwest, which runs from March 8-16, will close with fest 2xtime Audience Award winner Michael Showalter’s The Idea of You.

The movie is one of several that the filmmaker has presented or debuted at the festival, including Hello My Name is Doris, which won the Audience Award in 2015, The Big Sick, which won the Audience Award in 2017, critically acclaimed TV series Search Party, and Lovebirds, the latter which was originally scheduled to play the Austin, TX fest before the pandemic canceled the event.

Anne Hathaway returns to her rom-com roots with the film, directed by Michael Showalter. Hathaway stars as a 40-something single mother who gets another chance at love with a 24-year-old rock star (Nicholas Galitzine) while at Coachella. The film is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Robinne Lee.

The 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival takes place March 8 through 16, with “The Idea of You” as the Closing Night selection. Nicholas Galitzine co-stars in the Michael Showalter movie about a 40-year-old single mom (Hathaway) who, after chaperoning her daughter at Coachella, begins a romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Galitzine), the lead singer of the hottest boy band on the planet.

Ella Rubin, Reid Scott, Annie Mumolo, Viktor White, Raymond Cham, Jaiden Anthony and Dakota Adan round out the cast. Hathaway produced the film, along with Cathy Schulman, Gabrielle Union, Robinne Lee, Eric Hayes, Showalter and Jordana Mollick.

The upcoming third season of CBC and Max original comedy “Sort Of” will be its final season, co-creators Bilal Baig and Fab Filippo have announced.

The final eight-episode season will premiere in Canada on the CBC Gem streaming service on Nov. 17, releasing two episodes per week until the series finale on Dec. 8.

“We set out to tell a story about a kind of transition in Sabi’s life, and how those around them also change — and we feel in this coming season that story came to an end in a way that felt right for us,” Baig and Filippo said in a statement.

“Sort Of” follows Sabi Mehboob, played by Baig, a gender expansive millennial who is exhausted with changing themselves for the comfort of others. In the third and final season, the series will explore Sabi’s journey coming to terms with feelings of both grief and freedom after their father’s passing.

Exclusive: Saïd Taghmaoui (Wonder Woman) will appear alongside Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Monaghan in the action-comedy The Family Plan from Apple Original Films and Skydance.

The film written by David Coggeshall (Prey) tells the story of a suburban dad who must take his family on the run when his past catches up to him. Simon Cellan Jones (Arthur the King) is directing, with Municipal Pictures’ Stephen Levinson and Wahlberg producing alongside Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger.

Taghmaoui recently wrapped Brad Furman’s action-thriller Tin Soldier opposite Jamie Foxx, Robert De Niro and Scott Eastwood, most recently appearing opposite Ralph Fiennes and Jessica Chastain in Vertical Entertainment and Roadside Attractions’ drama The Forgiven. Past credits for the actor on the film side include both Wonder Woman titles with Gal Gadot, as well as John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, American Hustle, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and The Kite Runner.

TheWrap has learned that Fox loved “The Big Leap” and saw it as an aspirational story, but it didn’t draw strong viewership numbers with an average 0.4/2 L7 and 2.8 million multiplatform viewers.

Based on a U.K. reality format, the Scott Foley-starring dramedy “The Big Leap” was described as “an innovative show-within-a-show that takes viewers on a journey of self-acceptance, body-positivity and empowerment at any age” and “a modern tale about second chances and chasing your dreams and taking back what’s yours.”

The project is inspired by the UK docuseries Big Ballet and follows a group of diverse, down-on-their-luck characters attempting to change their lives by participating in a potentially life-ruining reality dance show that builds to a live production of Swan Lake.

What this group of underdogs lack in dance training, they make up for with their edge, wit, and desire to reimagine an iconic story to fit their own mold.

It was a modern tale about second chances and chasing your dreams and taking back what’s yours.

The cast included Scott Foley, Simone Recasner, Ser’Darius Blain, Jon Rudnitsky, Raymond Cham Jr., Mallory Jansen, Kevin Daniels, Piper Perabo, and Teri Polo.

While the show was one of the most well-received broadcast dramas in years, it failed to catch on in traditional ratings.

The Big Leap wrapped its first season on Fox on Monday night and, despite low ratings, the show's creator/showrunner Liz Heldens is hoping the series will return for a second season. “The Big Leap,” the title of Simone Recasner’s new television series, has multiple meanings for the rising star. It is the name of the reality dance competition within the show, on which the main characters are competing, in the Fox dramedy, and it also refers to the chance they are taking in being a part of the show at all. “The Big Leap” is Recasner’s first major acting role, reflecting the way her own life is about to change as she appears on screens in millions of homes across the country.

“Being new to the form of filmmaking, the ebbs and flows of set life has been a big adjustment for me,” Recasner admits.

Her specific role of single mom and aspiring dancer Gabby comes with its own complications, of course.
