The song “Love Is Blindness” was first released 33 years ago as the twelfth track on U2’s hit album, “Achtung Baby.” Since then, it’s been covered a number of times by various artists, from Cassandra Wilson on her 1995 record “New Moon Daughter” to Jacquie Lee on the fifth season of NBC’s reality-competition show, “The Voice.” But for a certain generation of cinephiles, “Love Is Blindness” will always be a Jack White song, forever associated with one of the great movie soundtracks, “The Great Gatsby: Music from Baz Luhrmann’s Film.” Sure, White only wrote it as part of a U2 tribute album — which isn’t even the first tribute album to feature a cover of the song — but the second the drums kick in with that familiar beat, it’s impossible not to picture Leonardo DiCaprio’s bright yellow Rolls Royce hurtling across the slippery streets of West Egg.

Eddy Grant And Donald Trump Settle Copyright Lawsuit Over Use Of ‘Electric Avenue’ In Campaign Video
Eddy Grant and Donald Trump have reached a settlement in the singer’s copyright infringement lawsuit over the Trump campaign’s use of “Electric Avenue” in an online video promoting his 2020 reelection campaign.
U.S. District Judge John Koetl filed notice that the parties had reached a settlement, but a sum was not disclosed. The judge also wrote that the case was discontinued with prejudice but without costs.
In September, the judge found Trump liable for copyright infringement, leaving unresolved the issue of whether a jury should be convened to decide an amount. Grant has asked for $300,000 and lawyers’ fees in the four-year-old case.
Grant sued Trump in 2020 over an animated video that mocked then-President Trump’s opponent, Joe Biden, with “Electric Avenue” playing in the background.
The clip was posted on Twitter without asking Grant or paying a song license. But Trump’s legal team claimed that the use...

Paul McCartney wrapped his headlining set at the Corona Capital festival in Mexico City over the weekend with a rendition of his always apt show-closer — the Beatles’ “The End” — featuring guest appearances from Jack White and St. Vincent.
A fan-shot video captured the thrilling performance, which began with an extended intro jam featuring five (yes, five) guitarists: White, St. Vincent, McCartney’s bandmates Rusty Anderson and Brian Ray, and McCartney himself, who swapped his bass for a six-string for the big finale. McCartney cajoled solos out of everyone, pointing at...

Paul McCartney closed out the 2024 edition of Corona Capital music festival in Mexico City on Sunday night by teaming up with Jack White and St. Vincent for a rousing finale performance of “The End.”
All three acts appeared on the Corona Capital bill on Sunday, setting the stage for collaborative performance during McCartney’s headlining set. Incredibly, it marked the first time ever that White, a self-professed Beatles fanatic, had shared the stage with McCartney. Meanwhile, St. Vincent previously collaborated with McCartney on “Woman and Wives” for 2021’s McCartney III Imagined.

Dick Van Dyke has long been a source of joy for many Americans, but when asked about the recent election of Donald Trump, the beloved comedian had an uncharacteristically dark response.
In a video shared by the Daily Mail, Van Dyke — who turns 99 next month — was asked by a member of the paparazzi if he thought the future of America is bright, to which the actor replied, “I hope you’re right!”
Then, the paparazzo questioned if Van Dyke believed Trump is capable of making America great, prompting the Mary Poppins star’s depressing response: “Fortunately, I won’t be around to experience the four years.”
Van Dyke has been a vocal supporter of progressive causes in recent years, endorsing Bernie Sanders in 2016 and 2020, and Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 election earlier this month.

By any measure, Cain’s Ballroom should be too small for Charley Crockett.
But on a sweltering August night — when the Oklahoma heat and humidity gave the air conditioning system of Tulsa’s timeless honky-tonk a battle for the ages — Crockett didn’t get caught up with the size of the venue. He looked back at the sold-out dance hall, with all its history, and let himself get caught in the moment.

The White Stripes’ Jack White and Meg White have withdrawn their lawsuit against president-elect Donald Trump, according to a court filing reviewed by Consequence.
In September, Jack and Meg White sued Trump and his campaign over the “flagrant misappropriation” of The White Stripes’ song “Seven Nation Army” after it was used to soundtrack a social media video promoting Trump’s presidential campaign. The band accused Trump and his campaign of six counts of federal copyright infringement and sought damages and injunctive relief.
However, on Sunday, November 10th, The White Stripes requested that the lawsuit be “dismissed without prejudice.” By filing “without prejudice,” the band reserves the right to potentially refile the case in the future if they choose to do so.
A legal representative for The White Stripes did not respond to Consequence’s request for comment.

One of the greatest yacht rock songs is Player’s “Baby Come Back.” The song is in regular rotation on stations dedicated to the slow, feel-good rock songs of the 1970s and 80s. But what is the secret behind this No. 1 hit from 1977?
The meaning behind ‘Baby Come Back’ explained
The secret behind “Baby Come Back” and its plea for the return of a lost love comes from a difficult breakup for not one, but two of Player’s members. The 1977 hit quickly shot to the top of the charts, as listeners resonated with the emotional lyrics and soft rock sound way before the term “yacht rock” was coined.
Player’s guitarist Peter Beckett was heartbroken after breaking up with a girlfriend. He confided in bandmate and keyboardist J.C. Crowley, who understood Beckett’s emotions, having endured a painful breakup himself. They recorded the song after recruiting bassist (and future...

Can a set of show tunes and Great American Songbook standards, rendered with a healthy measure of respect and virtuosity, also be a punk-rock show? Or at least something that kinda/ sorta feels like one?
That basic question arose over the course of seeing Lady Gaga’s secret post-midnight performance at downtown L.A.’s movie-palace-turned-music-club, the Belasco. There are surely a few performers out there who have a feel for both the classics of the Broadway/movie-musical era and raw-power rock ‘n’ roll. They just don’t exist at anywhere near the superstar level, and even in a more niche world, they probably know better than to try to combine these extremely different ethos. Lady Gaga, thankfully, does not know any better. After catching Monday night’s show, I’m happy to report that she is the woman who can marry the controlled genius of Tin Pan Alley and...

At an emergency injunction hearing in Atlanta federal court on Tuesday, Donald Trump and his campaign were ordered to stop using a song written by songwriting legend Isaac Hayes which he has played at over 130 rallies.
U.S. District Court Thomas Thrash Jr. issued an injunction as part of the 9:30 a.m. hearing called by attorneys representing Isaac Hayes III, the executor of his father’s estate. Trump is no longer allowed to use the Grammy-winning soul music legend’s song “Hold On, I’m Comin’” at rallies and events.

Rock musician Jack White has publicly criticized Donald Trump’s campaign for using his music without his authorization, joining a long list of artists who have objected to the use of their songs.
White, known for his work with The White Stripes, took to Instagram on Thursday to voice his anger over the unauthorized use of the song “Seven Nation Army” in a campaign video. The musician didn’t mince words, calling the Trump team “fascists” and threatening legal action.
The video in question, which showed Trump disembarking from a plane to the tune of White’s hit song, was originally posted on social media by Trump communications director Margo Martin. It has since been removed.

Desert Daze 2024 has been canceled due to “rising production costs and the current volatile festival market,” the event’s organizers have announced.

In a separate statement to the Los Angeles Times, festival founder Phil Pirrone further cited economic concerns. “We tried everything to avoid this, but this is a tough year for everybody. Next week, Donald Trump will appear in federal court in Atlanta over an injunction request filed by Isaac Hayes’ estate regarding the unauthorized use of the song “Hold On, I’m Coming.” Hayes’ estate is suing Trump for $3 million after allegedly finding 134 instances where the former president used “Hold On, I’m Coming” at campaign rallies without permission.
In anticipation of next week’s hearing, Hayes’ son, Isaac Hayes III, says the estate has received confirmation from BMI — the organization that administers licensing rights — that Trump’s campaign does not and has not “had a political use license to play ‘Hold On I’m Coming’ for quite some time.”
Political campaigns obtain a “political entities license” from organizations such as BMI or ASCAP in order to play music during rallies and other official events. However, artists have the ability to pull their music from these licenses.

“It’s been a lifetime of searching for a small real spring reverb effect unit that could be used as a stomp box on stage or in the studio,” Jack White said of the product. “The hang up is that you normally have to use really long springs to get a good sound, making the unit too large.

Here we go again: Jack White is promising to sue the Donald Trump campaign after a Trump aide used a White Stripes song in a video of the former president posted on social media.
Just a week after a similar incident involving a Beyoncé song and a Trump aide‘s video, in an apparently since-deleted tweet Thursday, Trump Deputy Director of Communications Margo Martin shared a video of Trump boarding a plane to campaign events, with the White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” soundtracking the 10-second clip.

Jack White says he’s filing a lawsuit against Donald Trump after a member of his campaign posted a video on social media featuring Trump departing for Michigan and Wisconsin, soundtracked to The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army.”
“Oh….Don’t even think about using my music you fascists,” White wrote in a post to Instagram alongside the video. “Law suit [sic] coming from my lawyers about this (to add to your 5 thousand others.)”
White is the fourth major musician to threaten legal action against Trump in recent weeks over his campaign’s unauthorized usage of their music. Beyoncé recently found herself in a similar situation when a Trump spokesperson posted a video soundtracked to her song “Freedom.” After the singer threatened to sue, the campaign took the video down.
Meanwhile, both Foo Fighters and Abba have demanded that Trump cease playing their music at his presidential campaign rallies. Although Trump...

Queens of the Stone Age have announced that they’ve canceled or postponed all of their remaining 2024 concerts in order for frontman Josh Homme to “receive essential medical care.”
Earlier this summer, Qotsa were forced to nix several dates on their European tour as Homme had to travel back to the United States for emergency surgery. The band then canceled even more European gigs in August, with Jack White filling in their slots at certain festivals.
The newly affected concerts are all North American gigs that were set to take place this fall, including headlining shows in Boston, Cincinnati, Chicago, and Madison, Wisconsin, as well as the Soundside Music Festival in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the Mempho Music Festival in Memphis, and the Corona Capital Festival in Mexico City. The band is working on rescheduling the headlining shows for 2025, but unfortunately has to cancel the festival appearances outright.

If you’re clamoring for Jack White to hit the road in support of his surprise new album, the good news is that he’s already on tour. The (semi) bad news is you’re just gonna have to play really close attention if you want to see him.
White discussed the current situation on Instagram Tuesday (Aug. 13), writing, “Lotta folk asking about when we are going to announce ‘tour dates,’ well, we don’t know what to tell you but the tour already started at the Legion a couple of weeks ago.

With his new album, No Name, Jack White challenged the norms of the album release; it appears his supporting world tour will be equally unconventional.
In a note posted to Instagram on Tuesday, White addressed fans clamoring for “tour dates” by explaining that he’ll be forgoing the traditional route of announcing dates well in advance. He also intends to play mostly “small clubs, back yard fetes, and a few festivals here and there to help pay for expenses.”
“Shows will be announced as close to the show date as possible, some shows we won’t even decide to do until that morning,” White explained.
“I also want to walk through orchard fields and grab apples off of trees at will and fill my belly full of that fruit if the desire strikes me,” White added. “I’m looking for that cool breeze you know? Lots of love and rock...

The exclusivity window is closing on the mysterious Jack White album that arrived to his Third Man Records stores in Nashville, Detroit, and London earlier this month. After giving the record away for free to whomever could get their hands on the limited vinyl copies, the musician is sharing the wealth. The previously untitled album — officially called No Name — will receive a wide release on Aug. 2.
No Name is a one-man job. White has spent the past year recording, producing, and mixing the album himself at his Third Man Studio.

Jack White has announced a proper release for his new solo album. Titled No Name, the 13-track LP will be available beginning Thursday, August 1st, on limited edition vinyl at all Third Man Records locations. A wider vinyl release at select independent record stores, as well as a global digital release, will follow on Friday, April 2nd.
White initially unveiled No Name by slipping vinyl copies of the album into the bags of unsuspecting shoppers at Third Man Records on July 19th. He subsequently encouraged fans to rip copies of the album and upload the recordings online.
According to a press release, the album was recorded, produced, and mixed by White at Third Man Records’ Nashville studio throughout 2023 and 2024. It marks White’s sixth solo album to date, following the one-two punch of Fear of the Dawn and Entering Heaven Alive in 2022.

Jack White made a surprise appearance at Newport Folk Fest on Sunday, joining his friend Conan O’Brien to perform “We’re Going to Be Friends.”
The performance came as part of O’Brien’s collaborative set, billed as “Conan O’Brien & Real Musicians,” which also featured appearances from Nick Lowe, Dawes, Brittany Howard, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Mavis Staples.
White, whose friendship with O’Brien dates back more than two decades, was the final guest of the evening. “We’re Going to Be Friends” was an appropriate song selection, as The White Stripes played the track during O’Brien’s final Late Night talk show episode in 2009 (it also proved to be the final live performance of The White Stripes’ career). The song is also used by O’Brien as the soundtrack for his podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.

The final guest during Conan O’Brien’s star-studded Sunday evening set at Newport Folk Festival was his podcast companion and friend Jack White. The pair first delivered a duet of the White Stripes classic “We’re Going to Be Friends,” with White and O’Brien trading verses. “Nothing in this world is free,” Jack White tells us on his new album. Whether that’s metaphorically true, White himself proved that it’s factually inaccurate. If you happened to be in London, Nashville, or Detroit on Friday, July 19, and visited White’s Third Man Records shop, his latest offering was, in fact, available at no cost, on white vinyl, given away with another in-store purchase. It’s the most Jack White way imaginable to do a surprise release.

On Friday, Jack White surprise released a brand new solo album by slipping vinyl copies to unsuspecting fans who stopped by Third Man Records’ retail locations in Nashville, Detroit, and London. Now, Third Man Records is encouraging those record holders to share the love by ripping the album and distributing it online.
Third Man issued the call to action on its Instagram on Friday night. In an Instagram story, the phrase “Rip It” appears over top an image of White’s new vinyl record.
In heeding to that request, Detroit public radio station Wdet 101.9 FM played the album in full live on air, and a recording of the playback has since been uploaded to YouTube. Additionally, White’s official reddit page has uploaded a rip of the album to a Google drive.
White previously released a pair of solo albums, Fear of the Dawn and Entering Heaven Alive, in 2022.

Jack White is giving away vinyl copies of a brand new album at Third Man Records retail locations.
Third Man has physical locations in Nashville, Detroit, and London. According to Third Man’s London Instagram page, the album will be available for today only. Update: White is encouraging those lucky enough to secure a copy to share the love by ripping the music and posting it online.
The vinyl does not have a title or artwork. A fan who picked up a copy described the music as “more stripped down blues rock,” adding, “The songs go hard!” It apparently contains a total of seven songs on Side A and six songs on Side B, with etchings that read, “Heaven and Hell” and “Black and Blue.”

Damon Albarn has weighed in on Bob Dylan’s decision to ban phones from his upcoming 10-date UK tour, pointing out that it’s a musician’s job to capture their fans’ attention during concerts.
“If you start banning things where does it end? I think you’ve just got to turn up and do your thing,” the Blur and Gorillaz frontman told BBC. “People won’t want to be on their phone if you’re engaging with them correctly.”

Each date on Dylan’s November tour will require fans to switch off their mobile phones and put them in a Yondr pouch, which will then be locked by the venue’s staff until they leave the building.
Yondr pouches are hardly new in the entertainment industry, having previously been used by Dave Chappelle, Jack White, Childish Gambino, Guns N Roses, Tool, and more.

Jack White returned to his hometown of Detroit on Thursday night for a performance at the Eminem-produced Michigan Central Station concert, celebrating the rebirth of the city’s once-shuttered train station.
Commenting that some of the songs he was playing were “written a few blocks from here,” White delivered an impassioned three-song set that featured a performance of “Hotel Yorba” within eyesight of the literal Hotel Yorba building, and closing-number “Seven Nation Army,” which included a moment where the crowd sang the iconic riff acapella before the band came back in with blistering energy. He also Jimi Hendrix’s “Hear My Train a Comin.'”
White’s set marked his first performance since his “Supply Chain Issues Tour” and 2023 Saturday Night Live appearance. Directly after he played, Eminem took the stage for a surprise performance that included the live debut of his new song “Houdini,” and ended with an anthemic rendition of “Not Afraid.
