The third annual 1 Billion Followers Summit, which took place in Dubai this past January, was originally expected to have around 5,000 attendees. Instead, 15,000 creators, creator industry execs, entrepreneurs, and other digital media-savvy businesspeople ended up coming together at the Museum of the Future in the Emirates Towers.
Over the next three days, those attendees had the chance to check out 350 different sessions, panels, and workshops from 420 speakers across three different tracks, all designed to help them develop as creators, small business owners, and denizens of our digital world.
Some notable English-language programming included:
How to Stay Relevant for a Decade with magician/creator Zach King Increasing CPMs For Mena Creators, a group panel discussing the “economic and creative roadblocks stifling growth” for creators in the Middle East and North Africa Caspar Lee’s Journey from YouTube to Investing with (of course) Caspar Lee and Sasha Kaletsky, Managing Partner at Creator Ventures Resilience,...

At Fox Corporation, the next Colin Cowherd or Jesse Watters isn’t likely to come from the ranks of TV-host wannabes.
Fox’s various operations, which include Fox Sports, Fox News and the Tubi streaming service, rarely act in tandem. In recent months, however, many of them — even the ad-sales department — have begun reaching out to digital-media entrepreneurs, also known as “creators,” in a bid to find new talent that might just be the next hot talker or buzzy showstopper the company needs to keep viewers and business partners coming to its screens.
Fox News, which has minted outspoken personalities like Megyn Kelly or Sean Hannity for years, surprised observers recently by striking a licensing deal with the principals of the popular conservative “Ruthless” podcast, part of a bid to expand its portfolio of opinion programming. Fox Sports seems poised to feature the outspoken commentary of Dave Portnoy, the founder of upstart outlet Barstool Sports.

Donald Trump won his way back into the White House on a claim that he would address Americans’ deep-seated economic pain. Months into his second term, the president’s reckless approach to tariffs and relentless dismantling of federal investments are driving up prices on everything from clothing and baby strollers to doctors visits and student loans.
To better understand how Americans are responding to Trump’s failed promise, the organization I lead, The Century Foundation, recently partnered with Morning Consult to ask more than 2,000 voters a range of questions about...

Four and a half years ago, AMC Theatres was still reeling from the Covid-19 pandemic. Attendance in theaters had collapsed, and studios were sending their films directly to streaming instead of giving them an exclusive theatrical window.
In fact, the movie theater business has not been able to return to its pre-covid business (though the financials have improved, along with the film slates), and multiple theater operators, including Regal, the number two U.S. operator, have since filed for bankruptcy.
There’s a good chance that AMC would have filed for bankruptcy too, had it not been saved by becoming a memestock.
Could The Los Angeles Times be looking for a similar lifeline?
On Monday’s Daily Show, Times owner Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong told host Jon Stewart that he wants to take the challenged news outlet public, an unusual maneuver for a media company of that scale. (As part of Tribune Publishing,...

Ever since its launch in 1996, Fox News has enjoyed a unique history of minting top talk personalities, ranging from Sean Hannity to Megyn Kelly to Greg Gutfeld. Now, the Fox Corp. unit is going to bring an outside entity into its empire.
As part of a licensing agreement, the popular “Ruthless” podcast, led by a trio of G.O.P. insiders and a fourth who likes to call himself “Comfortably Smug,” will align itself with Fox News Media’s suite of podcasts, which include programs led by Dana Perino and Brian Kilmeade. Fox News executives may see more of this activity on the horizon. “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough went on an eight-minute rant against Pro-Trump commentators and social media influencers for dropping their years-long “crusade” to expose the Epstein Files, now that President Trump has said there is nothing more to the story.
“The movement that is built on not trusting the government — built on building up bulls— conspiracy theories about everything, about everything... now we’re saying ‘I trust the government and I will ask no more’ — I can’t even say it — ‘I will ask no more questions.’ It is painful,” Scarborough said.
He added: “This is a complete and total capitulation on an issue that they claimed to be a moral crusade against a corrupt government cover up that’s been going on for years.”

White House “border czar” Tom Homan and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem played good cop, bad cop at a right-wing conference on Saturday. Both continued to push President Donald Trump administration’s agenda to ramp up Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) and raids as it attacks undocumented migrants across the U.S.
While Noem began her speech with prayer, Homan struck a threatening tone toward protesters. There were several dozen protesters gathered outside the event, according to photos from Fox News. “You know what? I’m sick of the assholes.

In her last public appearance as CEO of X, Linda Yaccarino sat down last month at the Cannes Lions advertising conference with tennis great Serena Williams.
Along with touting Williams’ forthcoming X podcast, the pair found common ground in their experiences with the social media platform long known as Twitter. The exchange took on new resonance this week in light of Yaccarino’s departure from the company.
Williams recalled being motivated to win an Australian Open, one of her 23 major singles titles, by a random tweet telling her she was “washed up” and soon to fade from the sport. “When I read that, I knew instantly that I was going to win,” she said. “I wish I had just screenshotted it and then @-ed him with a picture of the trophy.”

As most of us are aware of by now, Texas Senator Ted Cruz recently sat for a combative interview with performance artist Tucker Carlson. In an exchange that no doubt sparked countless uses of the ClickHole-inspired “Worst Person You Know Just Made a Great Point” meme, Carlson got Cruz to admit that he doesn’t know the population of Iran, despite hawkishly suggesting that the U.S. government should bomb the country and spearhead a regime change.
After being publicly embarrassed by the guy who once complained that cartoon M&Ms don’t give him boners anymore, Cruz fought back by posting an image from Monty Python and the Holy Grail on his social media account. Specifically, it's from the scene where the Bridgekeeper, played by Terry Gilliam, asks King Arthur to name “the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow.”

It’s rare to witness a political exchange so strikingly unguarded that it feels more like an unscripted confrontation than a calculated debate. If political discourse were a boxing ring, then the slugfest between Tucker Carlson and Ted Cruz would be the kind of match that leaves you breathless, bewildered, and vaguely ashamed for watching it ten times.
During an interview on Carlson’s podcast, Cruz was met with a series of basic yet unanswerable questions about the very nation he wishes to confront. Carlson’s interrogation was relentless, and Cruz’s faltering responses were startling in their emptiness. The fallout rippled across the media landscape, with NBC’s Seth Meyers offering perhaps the most cutting commentary: a mock sequel to Alien vs. Predator.

As President Donald Trump weighs sending U.S. forces to help Israel bomb Iran — and potentially plunge the nation into a new war — his decision is being influenced by bellicose on-air content at Fox News. The favored network of the president has put forth a parade of hosts, guests, and professional commentators with an effusively pro-war and pro-regime change message.
According to an administration official and another close associate of the commander-in-chief, Trump’s heavy consumption of Fox News content is increasing his appetite for direct military confrontation with Iran.

Donald Trump told reporters that Tucker Carlson “called and apologized” to him amid a split on the Right over U.S. involvement in Israel’s strikes on Iran.
Carlson, though, has continued to warn about the United States getting into a war in the region, and posted a video on Tuesday night in which he grilled Sen. Ted Cruz (R-tx) about his lack of basic knowledge about Iran.
“Tucker is a nice guy,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday. “He called and apologized the other day because he thought he said things that were a little bit too strong, and I appreciated that.”
Last week, Carlson wrote of the U.S. being “complicit” in Israel’s airstrikes on Iran so far, and that he could not think of a “single way this helps the United States.” Trump later took a swipe at Carlson, calling him “kooky” and,...

The hosts of “The View” clashed pretty hard on Wednesday morning, as the women debated whether marginalized groups have it worse in the United States or in the Middle East. The discussion eventually got so contentious, it became hard to hear, and eventually was sent to break.
To start the day’s Hot Topics, the ABC hosts discussed Tucker Carlson’s argument with Senator Ted Cruz over potential U.S. military actions against Iran. The women were split over the correct course of action. They argued for diplomacy, though hosts Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sara Haines adamantly reminded viewers about Iran’s regular support of terrorism.
As the conversation started to wind down, Farah Griffin also encouraged everyone, “Let’s just remember too, the Iranians literally throw gay people off of buildings. They don’t adhere to basic human rights or international law.”

Things got off to a very rocky start on Wednesday’s (June 18) edition of The View as the cohosts’ discussion of the deadly conflict erupting between Israel and Iran devolved into a full-on shouting match. The conversation began with a discussion of Tucker Carlson‘s headline-making interview with Ted Cruz, in which he challenged the Texas senator’s knowledge of Iran, despite his support of Israel’s attacks on the Middle Eastern nation. Whoopi Goldberg asked Alyssa Farah Griffin to speak first because of her status as the resident Republican of the panel and her contacts in Donald Trump‘s orbit, especially in national security thanks to her previous experience working in the Pentagon. “So, listen, I have to say I’m not going to cheer Tucker Carlson because [for] the first time in 10 years, he made one good point. Tucker Carlson’s interview with Sen. Ted Cruz erupted into a yelling match between the men on Tuesday night, after the former Fox News host confronted Cruz with basic statistics about Iran. The confrontation stunned many, but “The View” host Alyssa Farah Griffin was largely unmoved by it on Wednesday morning’s episode.
The contentious clip led the ABC talk show’s Hot Topics for the day, with moderator Whoopi Goldberg immediately tossing the discussion to Alyssa. And for her part, she mostly just gave Carlson the equivalent of a “whoop-de-doo.”

Broadcast networks again broke into regular programming with images of smoke rising in the skies over Tel Aviv, after Iran launched retaliatory attacks on Israel for its strikes on nuclear facilities and top military leaders.
ABC News broke into regular programming, with Diane Macedo anchoring, and CBS News provided a special report with John Dickerson anchoring. Cable news networks and broadcast streaming channels quickly focused their coverage on the attacks.
Israel defense forces said that “all of Israel is under fire as Iran fires projectiles,” and later reported a second round featuring dozens of additional missiles.
The Idf said in an announcement, “Every civilian must be aware of the most protected space in their area. When an alert is received, you must enter the protected space and remain there until further notice.”
Previously: Donald Trump once again chatted by phone with news anchors, this time to express support for Israel’s military strikes on Iran.

One of MSNBC’s best-known personalities is getting into the world of podcasts — even if she’s no longer with MSNBC.
Joy Reid was hosting a Monday-through-Friday program in the early evening for the soon-to-be-spun-off -from-NBCUniversal progressive news outlet as recently as February when she was ousted in a revamp of the network ordered by its new chief, Rebecca Kutler. In the waning minutes of her final broadcast of her program, “The Reid Out,” Reid vowed that viewers would not be hearing her last monologue. “We are not going to stop,” she said.
Now she is ready to go. Starting June 9, Redi will stream “The Joy Reid Show” on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons across YouTube and major podcast distributors. The debut episode will feature comedian Amber Ruffin and former South African ambassador to the U.S. Ebrahim Rasool. The program will be based in Washington, D.C.

Russell Brand has pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, indecent assault and sexual assault.
The comedian and actor appeared at London’s Southwark Crown Court on Friday for a hearing where he formally denied all five charges against him, including one allegation of rape, one allegation of indecent assault, one of oral rape and two further counts of sexual assault. The allegations relate to four separate women in incidents that occurred between 1999 and 2005.
The 49-year-old will now face a trial, which due to court delays won’t begin until June 3, 2026. He will remain on conditional bail until then.
Wearing sunglasses, an open pin-stripe shirt, dark blazer and skinny jeans, Brand arrived early Friday morning flanked by his lawyer Oliver Schneider-Sikorsky — who successful defended Kevin Spacey against sexual assault allegations in 2023. The hearing in front of Judge Baumgartner lasted a matter of minutes.

The Trump administration has reportedly agreed to pay $5 million to the family of Ashli Babbitt — a Jan. 6 rioter shot and killed by Capitol Police as she attempted to break into the House Speaker’s lobby — in order to settle a wrongful death lawsuit.
According to sources who spoke to The Washington Post, the Trump administration settled the $30 million wrongful death lawsuit filed last year by the right-wing activist group Judicial Watch on behalf of Babbitt’s husband. While the settlement was reached earlier this month, the final amount was previously undisclosed.

How do you make a satirical movie about modern America when the news that comes out of there every day is quite literally beyond a joke? Ari Aster is one of the rare directors willing to go there, and his new film Eddington is extraordinary not only for that but for depicting a slice of history that we have yet to see properly shown on film, even though it happened only five years ago. Dressed up as a neo-noir Western, this pandemic saga drips with the kind of biting, dark political humor hardly seen much since the heyday of screenwriter and novelist Terry Southern, author of Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove.
The setting — late May 2020 — is crucial: Covid-19 has just become a thing, and the residents of Eddington in Sevilla County are getting used to life with masks and social distancing. Most comply, but others are skeptical, including Sheriff Joe Cross (Joaquin Phoenix), who,...

According to a former White House official for Bush, the US federal government has secretly spent trillions building doomsday bunkers to house the rich and powerful.
The official, 74-year-old Catherine Austin Fitts, appeared on an episode of Tucker Carlson‘s podcast to discuss the bunkers, which were allegedly commissioned in 1998. Fitts had previously served as Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development during former President George H. W. Bush’s term. She claimed that $21 trillion in taxpayer dollars were funneled into the project between 1998 and 2015.
Fitts, who also made many wild claims, such as that the Covid-19 vaccine had DNA-modifying ingredients, provided no evidence for her claim other than a 2017 report from Michigan State University economist Mark Skidmore indicating that “unauthorized spending” was uncovered during that year. After two years of going through records related to documented underground bases, Fitts compared her research against the missing cash and her guess...

The Golden Globes are tuning into the podcast boom.
In a bid to recognize a rapidly rising medium amid an even more quickly shifting media landscape, the Globes announced the addition of a best podcast of the year category at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards. The new honor marks the Globes’ first major expansion since introducing the box office and cinematic achievement category in 2023 — and it’s being met with a potent mix of excitement, skepticism and uncertainty from the podcasting world.
“This is what the industry needs — recognition that podcasting is storytelling,” says comedian Bert Kreischer, host of “Bertcast” and “2 Bears, 1 Cave,” which he co-hosts with his friend Tom Segura. “It’s not just noise. It’s a craft.”
Craft, however, is notoriously hard to define in a medium where a 90-minute unscripted conversation can top the charts next to a tightly edited news brief or a crime docuseries. According to preliminary guidelines,...

Hollywood is still processing the new Golden Globe category for Best Podcast and what it might mean for the industry. While full eligibility requirements will be announced at a later date, one thing is abundantly clear: your friendly neighborhood pods won't be eligible for this award. The organization is only considering "the top 25 podcasts" to qualify for the six nomination slots.
With that number in mind, we've consulted Spotify's list of the most-listened to podcasts in the United States, to try to get a grasp on who might find themselves nominated at the 2026 Golden Globes.
Many of the top content creators are already well-known in the industry, including former Globe host Amy Poehler (Good Hang With Amy Poehler), who won a trophy for Parks and Recreation. On her podcast, the actress enjoys light-hearted chats with high-profile celebrities as they share stories and laughs — no advice allowed.

It has been seven years since the Robertson clan was on television, and they are working with the same network that aired the original Duck Dynasty.
More details about the reboot have become available with the announcement of the series debut, and it will focus heavily on Willie and Korie Robertson and their children as they navigate the next steps in life.
So much has changed, but their faith and outlook remain unchanged.
When will Duck Dynasty: The Revival air?

Russell Brand has been charged with rape, indecent assault and sexual assault by London’s Metropolitan Police.
The charges relate to four separate women and incidents that took place between 1999 and 2005.
According to the police, detectives had begun investigating in September 2023 after receiving a number of allegations following a major expose undertaken by both Channel 4’s Dispatches and the Sunday Times.
The 50-year-old has previously denied the allegations.
“The women who have made reports continue to receive support from specially trained officers,” said detective superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation. “The Met’s investigation remains open and detectives ask anyone who has been affected by this case, or anyone who has any information, to come forward and speak with police.”

There are moments in Good Night, and Good Luck, the new play by George Clooney and Grant Heslov opening on Broadway tonight at the Winter Garden Theatre and starring Clooney as pioneering TV journalist Edward R. Murrow, when the anti-authoritarian passions of all three men are made very clear. Anti-McCarthyism in Murrow’s case, anti-Trumpism for Clooney and, one presumes, Heslow. Unfortunately, more often than not, that clarity comes through speechifying, minor-key tirades and copious use of ’50s-era TV clips that make plain the all-too-obvious parallels between then and now.
We know when, in history and in the play, the inevitable “Have you no sense of decency?” will arrive to put Senator Joseph McCarthy out of America’s misery. When, the play not so subtly wonders, will Donald Trump face the same path?

Tucker Carlson, the prominent and often controversial conservative commentator, is grieving the loss of his father, Richard “Dick” Carlson, who passed away on March 24, 2025, at his Florida home at the age of 84. Richard Carlson, a figure in his own right, had a long and varied career in journalism and public service, a path that undoubtedly influenced his son’s own trajectory.
While Tucker Carlson’s presence in right-wing media is widely known, the legacy of his father reveals a family steeped in journalistic and political engagement. Richard Carlson’s career spanned decades, including a stint as a reporter at Kabc in the 1970s. He later served in the Reagan Administration during the 1980s and held the position of CEO at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in the 1990s. His professional journey also included a role at King World Television.

Major brands like Netflix, Amazon and J.P. Morgan Chase have started airing commercial spots against daytime news shows and prime-time commentary programs on the Fox News Channel in the weeks since the November 2024 election.
The advertisers are attracted to the channel’s politically-diverse audience and higher ratings in the post-election period, according to a report from the Financial Times on Thursday.
While most cable news channels suffer from an immediate drop in total day and prime-time ratings, Fox News has not only retained its core audience of right-of-center viewers, but attracted progressive viewers who want to follow the daily activities of the Trump administration — and see how the network covers it, accordingly.

Maren Morris is back, and she’s got a lot to say. On Thursday, March 27, the Grammy-winning singer shared her new single, “Carry Me Through.” The song is the lead single from her upcoming fourth album, Dreamsicle.
On “Carry Me Through,” Morris can’t help but look forward to the days ahead. She bluntly opens the piano-driven ballad, singing “feels like the worst year is always the one you're in.” But throughout the painfully relatable track, she learns that at the end of the day, she can only rely on herself for her own happiness. “I know tomorrow's gon' come / Preaching to a choir of one It's taking me a while, I'll get there soon / Plenty of hands held out / But I'm still the one who has to choose / To carry me through,” she sings on the song’s chorus.

The public had been waiting for this for many years, and now, the Trump administration finally released thousands of records related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Many of these documents were already published during Joe Biden’s administration, but the recent ones were files that were previously redacted.

No matter how offensive he’s being, there’s just something about Triumph the Insult Comic Dog that people find charming. Ever since he first appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien in in 1997, he’s gotten away with humiliating Star Wars nerds and crashing political conventions mostly without consequence. He’s even managed to endear himself to everyone from Stephen Colbert to Mike Huckabee.
On occasion, however, Triumph — and, by extension, his performer Robert Smigel — have managed to antagonize the wrong person. And, instead of laughing things off, Triumph’s target has responded with genuine fury. Here are five such times when Triumph has truly pissed someone off, very much finding himself in the doghouse.
1 Security at the 1999 Westminster Dog Show Play
When Triumph attended the Westminster Dog Show in 1999, the Montenegrin Mountain Hound wasn’t yet the canine insult institution he is today, so not everyone was entertained by his antics.

You might be aware that Stephen King frequently talks about what he's watching on social media. Be it an enthused snapshot review of a stellar HBO medical drama or the frank confession that he once walked out of a Michael Bay film, King always keeps it a buck. While the author occasionally talks about stuff he doesn't like, the king of horror is mainly known to highlight media that intrigues and excites him, and he seems eager to give credit where it is due. These recommendations are not just limited to films, as King helped spotlight a bunch of television shows last year, and they are all worth checking out. Well, guess what? King's latest series recommendation is a political thriller that's currently streaming on Netflix, and this is what he had to say about it on Threads:
"Watching Zero Day (Netflix): It's old school, but it's terrific. Great Tucker Carlson-type character.

Bill Murray has often randomly shown up in unexpected places, be it a wedding, a house party or a baffling Super Bowl commercial. This past weekend, Murray surprised the internet by bringing his confused uncle energy to the Joe Rogan Experience studio, despite having no idea who the hell Joe Rogan is.
Since Rogan is obviously a controversial figure to say the least, and Murray has a history of allegedly abusive behavior, some comedy fans may treat this podcast as if it were the VHS tape from The Ring. But the two hour and twenty minute interview may have been worth it for the moment in which Rogan tells Murray that he’s a “giant fan” only for Murray to respond, “I’ve never heard your show,” and then reveal that he had to ask a staff member to actually point out which guy Joe Rogan was.
Murray also confessed that he never saw NewsRadio,...

In the wake of Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election, “a mindset change in the country” has lured a number of top-tier advertisers back to Fox News, according to a top exec at Fox Corp.
Fox Corp. CFO Steve Tomsic offered his take on the news outlet’s rise during an appearance Tuesday at the Barclays Communications and Content Symposium.
“It feels enduring,” he said. “It feels like there’s a mindset change in the country that liberated advertisers and agencies to feel good about advertising on Fox News. Therefore, you’ve seen just in the past couple of months 100 blue-chip advertisers join the roster to advertise on Fox News.”
While its dominance of cable news has remained largely intact, Fox News has wavered over the years both in its coverage of Trump and, at times, in its battles for viewers with CNN and MSNBC. (The cable news...

In Netflix’s new political thriller series “Zero Day,” Dan Stevens plays Evan Green, a brash, outspoken internet star who becomes enmeshed in a White House investigation into a global cyber attack.
Robert De Niro stars as George Mullen, a former U.S. president who comes out of retirement to lead the investigation. In one scene, De Niro and Stevens are practically nose-to-nose as Mullen interrogates Green. “It was the perfect dynamic really because there’s this character who is suddenly face-to-face with Robert De Niro, face-to-face with Mullen, face-to-face with this giant figure that’s sort of been looming over the story, it was kind of thrilling,” Stevens tells me on the new episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. “But it is sort of the perfect encounter that you could imagine within it. Rather than having to be all sort of cozy and chummy with him, it was like,...
