Yu Lin Humm is a director, awarded composer, musician, actress and visual artist born and raised in Milan, Italy.
She has Chinese, Colombian, and Swiss-German origins.
She is fluent in English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish. Some knowledge of German, Arabic and Chinese.
Yu Lin received a throughout training in theater along music (cello, piano, singing) and dance (ballet, modern, jazz), since she was 5 years old. She performed with many orchestras and chamber music ensembles, and composed soundtracks for theatre and short movies.
Yu Lin was exposed from an early age to Peter Brook's theater productions, as a dear family friend - Sotigui Kouyaté - was part of the Peter Brook theater company. Assisting to rehearsals and premieres, immersed in the theatre environment with the actors before and after the shows allowed Yu Lin to learn dynamics of communication, mimesis, listening and presence, core values that she would carry and translate into her own art.
At 13, she took a leading role in La Casa di Bernarda Alba, premiered at Teatro Verga, Milan. Later, she acted in the theater company of Leonardo Gazzola, starring in "The Bacchae of Euripides - The Wine of Ogun" by Wole Soynka.
Her modeling career started at 15, cast by Annie Lerner for a shooting with Oliviero Toscani. She worked as a runway, editorial and commercial model, while continuing to perform as a musician and work as a photographer. In 2012, Yu Lin shot the cinematography for "Collected Harmony" directed by Dustin Lynn at Venice Film Festival.
After a period in New York City and Berlin, Yu Lin studied cinema and sociology at Lisbon University - BA in Performing and Visual Arts, and got a documentary filmmaking degree from KinoDoc Lisboa. In 2018, she appeared in Fausto - a theater production by Mala Voadora, premiered at Centro Cultural de Belém for it's 25th anniversary.
Yu Lin composed and premiered her debut solo album, "Islas Resonantes" in 2019 at Galeria ZDB, Lisbon. In the same year Yu Lin had her first personal photography exhibition, "Atrás do Atlas" at Art.Room gallery, Lisbon.
The music she composed and recorded with Núcleo Audio for the Motelx 2020 trailer, got awarded by the Art Director's Club Europe and received a silver award by the Creative Club Portugal. Yu Lin collaborated with MONOM 4DSOUND to create immersive installations called Sonic Cinema in Berlin and in Paris.
Since 2018, Yu Lin produced and directed a short documentary in Azerbaijan, two short documentaries in Italy and was protagonist of two short movies.
In 2023 she produced and directed the 30 min underwater film Islas Resonantes.
Yu Lin is currently in development of her first feature film Roots Run Deep.
