Described as a “musical horror-thriller,” Variety reports today that the upcoming movie Art of a Hit has been acquired by Giant Pictures for 2024 release here in North America.

The film “follows a ’90s rock band frontman grappling with irrelevance. An eccentric producer invites the band to his French chateau to record, where they encounter unexpected challenges.”

“Art of a Hit takes everything we love about the late ‘90s and early 2000s rock scene and jams it into a wildly creepy castle in the most beautiful place on earth: Dordogne, France. It’s funny, scary, messed up and honest — a story about what it’s like to be in a band and the insane fears of trying to make it as an artist. If you love late 90s rock, if you loved being in a band, you will love Art of a Hit,” director Gaelan Draper and co-writer/star Charlie Saxton said.

The unholy union of rock music and horror is alive and well in Art of a Hit, a psychological horror movie set to begin production soon according to Deadline.

Formerly titled Excelsis, Art of a Hit is set in 2003 and “follows a bygone rock band as they journey to a 1000-year-old French chateau to record with a reclusive super-producer in hopes of rebooting their career. But as tensions rise and tempers flare, they realize they are up against more than just the pressure to succeed.”

Deadline reports that “Indie rock pioneer Adam Lasus is music directing the ’90s alternative-heavy soundtrack alongside music supervisor Linda Cohen (Licorice Pizza).”

Freeform's Misfits remake now has a cast and a pilot order. But what does the original Simon, Iwan Rheon, have to say about it?

Newly-introduced American network Freeform has wasted no time preparing its next wave of programming. As well as prepping Marvel's Cloak And Dagger, they're also working on a remake of the E4 superhero series Misfits.

★★★★☆ There's an eerily effective collision of genres happening in Stage Fright (2014). Horror, comedy and musical are all at play and, under the masterful hand of writer and director Jerome Sable, make for deliciously gory fun. While it hearkens back to the canon of 1980s "summer camp slasher" films , there's a refreshing tongue-in-cheek comedic tone here. Viewers can get the all-knowing wink as well as some guts on the side. Camilla Swanson (Allie MacDonald) is having a rough time: ten years ago, her mother, Broadway diva Kylie Swanson (Minnie Driver), was murdered. Horror musicals don't come around all that often, but we were treated to one this year by the name of Stage Fright, featuring the likes of Meat Loaf and Minnie Driver. The film's soundtrack is on its way, and we have all the details right here.

Lakeshore Records will release the Stage Fright – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on August 19th and on CD September 23rd. Stage Fright features performances by Meat Loaf, Minnie Driver, Allie MacDonald, the Metal Killer, and more.

The film’s writer/director Jerome Sable and Eli Batalion composed the music and lyrics for this "Glee" meets The Rocky Horror Picture Show musical comedy, producing a genre-bending score that mixes heavy metal rock with a full orchestral sound. This R-rated horror-musical was produced by Ari Lantos and Jonas Bell Pasht.

This week’s Blu-ray and DVD releases are an eclectic bunch, to say the least. Not only is Steve Miner’s criminally overlooked horror/comedy creature feature Lake Placid swimming its way onto Blu-ray, but Severin Films is also releasing a trio of controversial cult classics- Bloody Moon, The Baby and Bloody Birthday-all in high definition for the first time ever.

The Time Machine is also getting a Blu-ray release this week, along with Gareth Evans’ stunning action masterpiece The Raid 2 and a handful of indie horror films, including the wickedly entertaining horror musical Stage Fright starring Minnie Driver and Meat Loaf. Overall, it’s a good week to be a genre fan with oddball tastes because there’s a whole lot of wonderfully weird stuff arriving this Tuesday.

The line-up for this year's Film4 FrightFest in London has just been announced – and boy, is it a doozy! Sporting a record-breaking 38 UK/European premieres and 11 world premieres, this August is going to be an exciting time in the genre calendar.

This year Film4 FrightFest will be moving from its previous home at Leicester Square's Empire Cinema to the nearby Vue Cinema (also on Leicester Square), prompting an ingenious reshuffle of the screening arrangements.

The horror genre has not exactly been a steady and stable movie-going experience for freshness or originality as of late. Nevertheless, the persistence to include any distinctive gimmick or angle just to distinguish these faceless frightfests from one another is indeed appreciated. In writer-director Jerome Sable’s Canadian creeper Stage Fright one can actually both cheerfully sing and scream for their supper in this entertaining off-kilter morbid musical of mayhem. Sable’s impishly dire slasher stage production does conjure up an interesting take on how to “kill a live audience”…or at least try not to be killed in front of this very same audience. No, the final curtain call for Stage Fright does not involve any of the obligatory stand-by sinister venues such as haunted houses,...

Nothing else in Stage Fright, a horror-musical hybrid that plays like a sleepy, off-brand Troma movie, is as good as Meat Loaf.

What promises on paper to be a delirious mess or instant camp classic ends up being not quite either with Jerome Sable’s ambitious directorial debut, Stage Fright, a musical horror film that foregoes cheap laughs for an unanticipated dose of character development.
