The rise of generative AI has made deepfakes easier to create than ever. People like celebrities and content creators, who have countless hours of video footage of themselves online that can now be scraped and fed to software, are particularly at risk for bad actors. It may seem funny when gen AI is used to make videos of Joe Biden griefing opponents in Minecraft, but creators like QTCinderella have talked about the much darker side of widespread deepfake tech.

YouTube has been extremely bullish on AI, but at the same time as it’s introduced tools like Dream Track and automated chat summaries (which didn’t quite work out as expected), it’s promised that creators and their concerns are always on its mind.

Valkyrae is lawyering up after a slew of Stake-branded X posts slapped fake captions on top of clips from her podcast.

“I get people are just trying to make a few bucks with the logo and stuff but the hate I’ve received because of lies has been insane,” the streamer, who has more than 4 million subscribers on YouTube, tweeted Nov. 29. “Some of these clips are from when I shared a non consensual sexual experience and out of context, I’m perceived as a whore.”

She gave a specific example where someone took a clip of her talking about going with her female friends to an onsen (hot spring) in Japan, and pasted a caption over top that suggested it was a sexual encounter. We recently wrote about how, in the current creator industry paradigm, streamers seem to always be upping the ante, putting on bigger and bigger spectacles in an effort to grab more and more eyeballs. There’s perhaps no better example than Kai Cenat, who’s on day 27 of “Mafiathon 2,” a monthlong, 24/7 subathon that’s so far featured celebrity guests like Snoop Dogg, Serena Williams, Bill Nye, Soulja Boy, Chris Brown, Sza, and Lizzo.

The subathon has already snagged Cenat the new record for highest number of simultaneous Twitch subscriptions: 500,000+. He and VTuber Ironmouse have been trading that record back and forth with their respective subathons; she set it at over 321,000 during her own 30-day 24/7 stream in September, beating Cenat’s former record of 306,621, which he set during the first Mafiathon in February 2024.

The second full week of February was a big moment for streamer-centric award shows. On February 14, Hispanic and Latino creators came together for the Premios Esland, an annual celebration led by Spanish streamer TheGrefg. Three days later, QTCinderella took the stage at The Wiltern in Los Angeles for the third edition of the Streamer Awards, which she has produced and co-hosted each year since 2022.

The latter of those two shows hauled in more traffic on Twitch. According to Streams Charts, the 2024 Streamer Awards hit a peak of more than 645,000 concurrent viewers. Less than half of that audience watched QTCinderella’s broadcast on her personal Twitch account; co-streams from big names like Jynxzi and CaseOh (both of whom were nominated for Streamer of the Year) added thousands of viewers to the total audience.

The third annual edition of the Streamer Awards will celebrate the biggest stars on platforms like Twitch, Kick, and YouTube. In a Twitch stream, Streamer Awards organizer QTCinderella announced the 2024 nominees and revealed that Pokimane will co-host the show alongside her.

Across the 28 Streamer Awards categories, five creators earned three nominations apiece: Record breaker Kai Cenat, gamer Quackity, Rainbow Six Siege player Jynxzi, multiplatform star CaseOh, and Otk member Extra Emily. Four of those three-time nominees are up for the Streamer of the Year prize. The creator joining Cenat, Quackity, Jynxzi, and CaseOh in that category is VTuber Ironmouse.

Extra Emily will not be up for Streamer of the Year, but her presence at the 2024 Streamer Awards will not be limited to her three nominations. Two streamers teamed on to put on an event that will benefit an at-risk environment. QTCinderella and Maya Higa served as the emcees for the Gala For Good, a charity auction that raised approximately $250,000 for rainforest conservation.

The Gala For Good went live on October 2. The guest list included several creators, who donned rainforest-inspired garb for the event. Each invitee also showed up with a specific auction item. Higa painted a lush scene, Qt stayed true to form with a cake-shaped decoration, Jarvis Johnson delivered a pair of boxing gloves, and Alinity auctioned off a used pair of booty shorts. Twitch also chipped in by donating a Golden Kappa emote.

Loaded has signed top Call of Duty streamer Symfuhny for representation in all areas, the management company exclusively tells Tubefilter.

Symfuhny (aka Mason Lainer) has been streaming on Twitch since 2016, and has also been in the competitive gaming scene for a number of years, including an 18-month run on Nrg‘s pro Fortnite team. He’s been an independent player since September 2020, and has competed in several Call of Duty tournaments.

On Twitch, he has nearly 4 million followers (7M across all platforms) watching his CoD gameplay. He’s currently shooting to be in the top 250 players worldwide in Call of Duty‘s ranked leagues.

Loaded says this is a “critical time” in Symfuhny’s career, and that it intends to help him establish content and brand partnerships as well as manage events and activations.

After taking over Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays, the NFL is making a bid to capture audiences on Tuesday as well. The most-watched sports league in the U.S. is bringing back NFL Tuesday Night Gaming, a competition series that features both creators and professional athletes.

Last season, in an effort to establish credibility in digital gaming communities, the NFL teamed up with Enthusiast Gaming to establish Tuesday Night Gaming. The show’s format is simple: It pairs creators with football players and pits them against one another in various video games. Titles featured in the first season of Tuesday Night Gaming included Rocket League and Fortnite.

Keffals, the Twitch streamer and trans activist who gained worldwide attention by taking on abusive forum Kiwi Farms in 2022, has filed a human rights complaint against the London Police Service (Lps) in Ontario, Canada.

The Lps arrested Keffals (aka Clara Sorrenti) on Aug. 5, 2022, after she was swatted via email. The hoax email sent to police claimed Sorrenti had killed her mother, had a gun, and was planning on shooting cisgender people at London’s City Hall. It was signed with Sorrenti’s deadname.

Sorrenti recalled the incident in an Aug. 9 YouTube upload (embedded below), describing how she’d been woken up in the middle of the night by an officer aiming a gun at her, how she’d been arrested by police referring to her with her deadname, and how her electronic devices had been seized.

She was later released without charges, but says her experience indicates “systemic issues” within the Lps.

13 years ago, KFC created a social media sensation when it introduced the Double Down, a sandwich that replaces buns with pieces of fried chicken. After discontinuing the Double Down in 2014, KFC chose to bring it back in 2023.

The 2023 Streamer Awards are officially over, having handed out nearly 30 fan-nominated and -voted awards to dozens of content creators.

This is the Streamer Awards’ second year; it was founded in 2022 by QTCinderella, who—along with Valkyrae—hosted this year’s ceremony March 11 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles.

The 2023 show was streamed from QTCinderella’s Twitch channel, and had concurrent viewership of between 200,000 and 300,000 people throughout the ceremony.

For this year, the Streamer Awards dropped three categories from last year and added four new ones: Best Soulslike Streamer, Best Art Streamer, the Hidden Gem Award, and the Streamer’s Streamer Award.

Most of 2023’s awards were chosen by a public vote that opened in January, with the exception of the Legacy Award, which was decided by a panel, and the Streamer’s Streamer Award, which was voted on by creators who attended the live ceremony.

Nominees have been unveiled for the second annual Streamer Awards, and voting on winners is open to the general public.

The QTCinderella-founded awards show launched in 2022, and for its inaugural year named winners in 27 categories, with winners selected by a combo of votes from the public and a panel of judges. The awards ceremony streamed live on Twitch from The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles; it became Twitch’s 45th most-viewed broadcast, reaching peak concurrent viewership of 381,436 people.

This year’s show will hand out 26 awards. It dropped four categories from last year—Best Super Smash Bros. Streamer, Best Asmr Streamer, Best GTA Rp Streamer, and the Legacy Award—and added three new ones for 2023: Best Soulslike Streamer, Best Art Streamer, and the Hidden Gem Award.

Nominees were selected by a public vote that opened in January.

After getting caught paying for deepfaked Nsfw images of female streamers, Atrioc is going offline and taking a break from Offbrand, the creator event company he co-founded in September 2022 with Ludwig, Stanz, and Nick Allen.

For those not up to date on what’s happened, Atrioc—a Twitch streamer with more than 300,000 followers—showed his screen during a recent broadcast and inadvertently revealed he had a tab open to a website that hosts deepfaked, nonconsensual Nsfw images and videos.

The website page he was looking at contained fake nudes of popular streamers Maya Higa and Pokimane. That same deepfake maker also posted fabricated Nsfw content of QTCinderella and Sweet Anita.

Twitch‘s Spanish-speaking community includes some of the streaming platform’s most prominent personalities. At the second annual Premios Esland, top Hispanic and Latino creators took home honors. The show streamed on the Twitch account of its organizer, TheGrefg, and a peak audience of 1.75 million concurrent viewers tuned in.

This is the second-straight year that TheGrefg (whose real name is David Cánovas Martínez) has hosted an award show to celebrated Spanish-speaking streamers. To top the previous Premios, Martinez took the festivities to Mexico, where a massive live audience joined the on-stream viewers. In a tweet, Martinez called his show “the most important event in my life.”

The creator who described herself as a “compulsive event organizer” in 2022 is getting ready for her first major event of 2023. Beginning on January 15, Twitch star QTCinderella will host Master Baker, a five-day cooking competition featuring six popular streamers.

QTCinderella, whose real name is Blaire, is the self-proclaimed “resident expert baker” on Twitch. She often bakes sweet treats on her stream, and she even made a wedding cake to celebrate the union of Twitch streamers Natsumiii and Abe. The contestants on Master Baker, however, will not be so advanced. In fact, despite the show’s title, it will feature streamers who “can’t bake for shit,” according to a Twitter video shared by QTCinderella.

For the second year in a row, Yuletide carols will come to Twitch thanks to QTCinderella. She is the organizer of a Christmas concert that will feature performances from a cast of streaming stars.

QTCinderella (real name Blaire) will host the festive stream on her Twitch account at 9 Pm Et on December 2. The self-proclaimed “compulsive event organizer” put together a Christmas event last year and invited Fuslie, LilyPichu, and others to sing their favorite Christmas carols. She capped off the night by performing ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ with her boyfriend Ludwig.

The 2022 edition of A Very Qt Christmas promises to be “a Christmas show you won’t soon forget,” according to a trailer shared on QTCinderella’s Twitter page. Two streamers got married, and the whole world got to watch them declare their love for one another. Abe and Natsumiii shared a feed of their wedding on Twitch and got fellow creator Disguised Toast to host it.

Natsumiii (whose real name is Wendy) met Abe in 2016. The couple got engaged in 2021. Both streamers reach significant audiences on Twitch: Natsumiii has about a half-million followers, while Abe has 285,000 of them.

Their November 8th wedding featured a star-studded guest list. Disguised Toast (real name Jeremy Wang) was not the only member of Offline TV to celebrate his friends’ matrimony. Valkyrae, LilyPichu, and Fuslie, all of whom recently signed exclusive contracts with YouTube Gaming, served as three of Natsumiii’s bridesmaids.

MrBeast, the massively popular YouTube creator who is reportedly approaching investors for a fundraising round that values his media empire at 1.5 billion, topped the list of nominees for the 2022 YouTube Streamy Awards for the second year in a row.
