The 2024 Billboard Music Awards have announced their finalists in 72 categories. The awards will take place on Thursday, Dec. 12, in a multi-platform event to be hosted by comedian Michelle Buteau. They will air on Fox, Fire TV Channels, and Paramount+ at 8:00pm Eastern and Pacific, with additional performances set to stream on Billboard.com and across BBMAs and Billboard social media platforms. Zach Bryan leads the list with 21 citations across 18 categories,, followed by Taylor Swift with 17 total entries in 16 categories; Swift is currently tied with Drake as the most awarded artist in BBMAs history with 39 total trophies, so she only needs to win once to stand alone in the record books. Surprise! Carrie Underwood is at the 2024 CMA Awards!

The 41-year-old singer made a special appearance on stage at the country music awards show on Wednesday night (November 20) held at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.

Hosts Luke Bryan, Lainey Wilson, and Peyton Manning first introduced Cody Johnson for a solo performance of “I’m Gonna Love You,” and after he started singing the song alone, Carrie walked out on stage singing the second verse.

Jelly Roll is one of 18 artists singing Brooks & Dunn songs on the duo’s new album Reboot II. On Wednesday, the former rapper joined Ronnie Dunn and Kix Brooks onstage at the CMA Awards to perform his version of “Believe.”

Like B&d’s 2005 original, Jelly Roll’s version on Reboot II is rich in gospel accents — onstage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, he was accompanied by nine-member choir as he traded verses with Dunn. A 16-piece orchestra also helped turn the ballad into a grand production.

George Strait was honored with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 CMA Awards. Lainey Wilson kicked off the homage with a note-perfect take on Strait’s signature “Amarillo by Morning,” followed by Jamey Johnson’s plainspoken but swaggering rendition of “Give It Away.”

Parker McCollum and Miranda Lambert traded verses on Strait’s 2008 hit “Troubadour,” a fitting song for the occasion. To cap things off, Strait emerged to reprise “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame,” his duet with Chris Stapleton, from his album Cowboys and Dreamers released earlier this year.

Ahead of the CMA Awards on Wednesday, Billy Ray Cyrus weighed in on the discourse surrounding Beyoncé’s snub from the nominations list.

The country singer took to his Instagram earlier in the day to congratulate all the nominees, but also share that she was “surprised” that the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer wasn’t among the nominees this year.

“I’m so happy and proud to see country music opening their doors and format to be inclusive to all people, all styles,” he wrote in the post’s caption. “@lilnasx and I won this award in 2019 for Event Of The Year… but you wouldn’t have seen it because they didn’t air it in the show.”

Cyrus continued, “I was surprised to see @beyonce wasn’t nominated??? Her album was brilliant…her single ruled. But she knows that. She doesn’t need a trophy from the CMA…or permission…...

Morgan Wallen went into the 58th annual CMA Awards as the leading contender, with seven nominations. He won only one of those, but it was the prize he most would have wanted: entertainer of the year. Or we can assume so, since Wallen was the only no-show among the night’s big nominees.

The 2024 CMAs’ other multiple winners were Chris Stapleton, who picked up three trophies, and show co-host Lainey Wilson (last year’s entertainer of the year winner), who got two.

Others being awarded honors on the ABC telecast included Cody Johnson, Megan Moroney, Old Dominion and — in perhaps the night’s biggest upset — Brooks & Dunn, who won duo of the year for the 15 time… the first time in 18 years.

According to the Country Music Association, Stapleton and Brooks & Dunn are now tied for the most CMA wins ever, with 19 each.

The Country Music Association has handed Disney alternative chief Rob Mills the 2024 CMA Founding President’s Award.

Mills, who is EVP, Unscripted & Alternative Entertainment, Walt Disney Television, was feted last night during rehearsals for The 58th Annual CMA Awards in Nashville.

It comes ahead of the event, which is hosted by Luke Bryan, Peyton Manning, and Lainey Wilson, tonight (November 20).

Disney, which recently scooped up the rights to the Grammys, extended its deal for the CMA Awards in 2021 to take it through 2026.

In addition to the awards, which air on ABC, Disney also has the CMA Fest and CMA Country Christmas.

“The CMA Founding President’s Award, determined by our Board of Directors, celebrates individuals who have shown exceptional dedication and service to CMA,” said Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “Over the past decade, Rob’s outstanding leadership has been instrumental to the growth and success of CMA’s television properties.
