Born and raised in Europe, Aleks moved to the United States during her grade school years. She attended Boston University as a Communications major before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated with high honors, earning a BS in Radio/TV/Film.
After ghostwriting two non-fiction books, Art In Focus and Exploring Art, and writing her first novel, Ashes to Ashes, Aleks relocated to Los Angeles. There, she worked as a pitch writer and development consultant for the William Morris Agency, and later as a Development Executive for Finnegan-Pinchuck Productions. She eventually joined Paramount Pictures, where she worked as an executive in the International department.
After five years at Paramount, Aleks' second novel, The Last Machaca, available in both English and Spanish, helped fund her production company. She co-wrote and produced the feature film The Inner Circle, which was featured on England's Hallmark Hall of Fame. In July 2009, The Inner Circle won the Exceptional Merit in Media Award. The EMMA's were created by the NWPC to honor and reward outstanding material in radio, television, print and the internet that inform and educate the public about critical issues that impact women's lives.
In 2019, Aleks wrote and produced the short film, Hotel, which won Best Original Concept and Best Sound at the Independent Horror Movie Awards. Her latest novel, Malfeasance, a thriller, has been adapted into a screenplay.
