Full list of winners revealed.

Carolina Moscoso’s Night Shot has won the Grand Prix at the Marseille International Film Festival (FIDMarseille).

The Chilean film marks Moscoco’s debut feature and uses text, candid footage, animation and sound design to confront her past trauma: a violent rape that occurred eight years previously when she was a film student. It was produced by Santiago-based El Espino Films.

The seventh annual Montreal Underground Film Festival features four nights — and one matinee — of experimental short films from all over the world, plus two feature films. The fun takes place May 17-20 with the opening night event being held at Sala Rossa before the rest of the fest moves to Peut-être Vintage.

The opening batch of short films includes Winnipeg filmmaker Aaron Zeghers‘ The Story of Thomas Edison, plus films by fellow Winnipegger Scott Fitzpatrick, Simon Lacroix, Erin Weisgerber, Charles Fairbanks and many more.

Several other Winnipeggers have films throughout the rest of the fest, including Heidi Phillips‘ The Last Harvest and Noam Gonick’s Hirsch. Representing the U.S. are Neil Ira Needleman‘s Prelude & Erotiloop, Tony Gault‘s Ghost of Yesterday and Ben Popp‘s Lazslo Lassu.

Having been around for eighteen years, the Chicago Underground Film Festival has continually changed what it defines as “underground.”

So its 19th annual edition, which will be held on May 31 to June 7 at the Gene Siskel Film Center, feels like its most experimental edition in recent years.

While things kick off on the 31st with the Vice-produced anthology film The Fourth Dimension by Alexsei Fedorchenko, Harmony Korine and Jan Kwiecinski, the rest of the fest is packed with feature-length and short experimental work, documentaries and alternative narratives.
