Steve Kornacki is just one of the attractions for MSNBC fans who tune in for the cable-news outlet’s Election Night coverage. On Peacock, the interactive-map guru gets to be the star of his own little show.
The NBCUniversal streaming service will offer a “Kornacki Cam,” or a live-stream that centers on Kornacki as he analyzes polling numbers and incoming voter data. It’s just one of three different bespoke streams that will be available for news and politics aficionados on the evening of November 5. Peacock will also offer a stream of NBC News Now, the digital news service, and a third that focuses on key results coming in from the NBC News Decision Desk.

Get ready for the “Kornacki Cam.”
Steve Kornacki, the veteran NBC News and MSNBC national political correspondent, will get his own video feed on election night, part of Peacock’s plan to bring the multiview experience that it debuted during the Paris Olympics earlier this year to other live events.
Peacock will debut a three-feed version of multiview on election night, anchored by a main feed of NBC News Now, which will be led by Lester Holt and Savannah Guthrie; as well as the Kornacki Cam, which will see Kornacki at the big board analyzing the polling numbers as they come in through the night; and a decision desk feed, which will focus on electoral results and the balance of power.

NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock launched with a big bet on the Olympics. In January 2020, in Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center, executives unveiled a plan to use that year’s Tokyo Olympics to help launch Peacock, including streaming the opening and closing ceremonies live before they aired on TV in the evening.
The Covid-19 pandemic, of course, would warp those plans. Peacock still launched in 2020, but when the Tokyo games finally happened the following year, NBCU had pivoted. Peacock would have live coverage of certain events like gymnastics and basketball, paired with some exclusive studio shows. Unfortunately, a confusing interface and some technical glitches marred the company’s plans, as executives now acknowledge.
“Frankly, we didn’t do a very good job for our customers,” said Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group, speaking to reporters once again in Studio 8H. “We didn’t exactly deliver what we said we were going to deliver.

Michaels was the voice of ‘Sunday Night Football’ on NBC for years, and will now lend that voice to its Olympics coverage…kind of.
Peacock is going all-out to ensure its coverage of the Games of the Xxxiii Olympiad this summer draws the attention of audiences. The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris open on Friday, July 26, and Peacock has already announced an unprecedented level of coverage for the games. But NBC is taking things a step further, and announced today that it would be presenting “Your Daily Olympic Recap on Peacock” each day of the games, and that voiceovers for the recaps would be provided by none other than legendary sportscaster Al Michaels…or at least, an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated version of him.
Key Details: The daily recaps will become available on Peacock starting July 27. Fans can curate the types of highlights they want to see in the recap each day.

Al Michaels, whose call of the U.S. hockey team’s Olympics upset over the Ussr is a sports broadcasting milestone, will deliver AI-enhanced daily recaps of the Paris Games this summer on Peacock.
NBCUniversal’s flagship streaming service, which is carrying full coverage of all Olympic events, will present “Your Daily Olympic Recap on Peacock.” The company describes the mobile-focused feature as “a first-of-its-kind, personalized experience complementing NBCUniversal’s comprehensive coverage of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.”
The feature stems from a collaboration with Michaels, the company said, using generative A.I. and A.I. voice synthesis technology. The recap will provide fans with their own customized playlist featuring highlights of the events most relevant to them from the previous day. Each compilation will feature clips from NBCU Paris coverage. A “high-quality A.I. recreation of Michaels’ voice” will provide voiceovers, with the virtual host trained on past appearances by Michaels on NBC.

NBC is bringing Al Michaels back for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Or rather, NBC is bringing a version of Al Michaels generated by artificial intelligence to this year’s Games.
The company says that it is turning to generative AI software to re-create the iconic sportscaster’s voice, which will provide customized Olympic recaps for Peacock subscribers during the Olympics. It announced the offering at a press event held at Studio 8H in NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Center headquarters.
The result, which the company is calling “Your Daily Olympic Recap on Peacock,” will see users presented with a highly customized highlight playlist, narrated by Michaels, or at least by an AI voice that sounds eerily like the sportscaster.
That includes Michaels greeting the user by name, and digging into highlights from specific sports that the user has said they are interested in. The highlights can also be further customized to focus on things like viral moments,...

To understand the connection between sports and streaming video, consider this: Amazon’s $1 billion per year deal to stream Thursday Night Football is literally changing U.S. internet habits. Comcast president Mike Cavanagh, speaking Dec. 4 at a Ubs conference, said Amazon’s Tnf game “comprises roughly 25 percent of all internet traffic on Thursday nights” and that it single-handedly “moved peak data usage on our broadband network from Sunday night to Thursday night.” And Comcast, with more than 32 million broadband internet subscribers, knows where users are spending that valuable bandwidth.

The highly-anticipated spin-off “The Continental: From the World of John Wick” premiered Friday on a streaming platform some in the industry would find surprising.
What makes the show stand out — apart from its miniseries format, comprised of three movie-sized episodes spread across three consecutive Fridays (a callback to television events of yore) — is the fact that the prequel, spun off from one of the crown jewels of the Lionsgate portfolio, landed on the NBCUniversal-owned streamer rather than on Starz, Lionsgate’s own premiere cable channel and streaming platform.
The question remains: Why?
The show takes place in New York in the 1970s, but exists in the same shared, blood-splattered universe where, decades later, Keanu Reeves’ John Wick would go on a roaring rampage of revenge.
Basil Iwanyk, founder of Thunder Road Films, the production and financing company behind “John Wick” and “The Continental,” said the decision to move the...

Apparently, Peacock saw the news that Netflix was going to open its first-ever pop-up restaurant in Los Angeles this week, and decided that it needed to upstage its much larger streaming rival. On Thursday, it was announced that the NBCUniversal streaming service would officially be taking over the naming rights of the iconic theater in the L.A. Live district.

NBCUniversal has stuck to a simple plan when it comes to its subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) streaming service. However, the way that the company has rolled out Peacock since the service’s launch in July 2020 has varied substantially from how other companies have entered the streaming space. Peacock is taking another big swing as it was announced on Thursday that the platform will provide live streams of every event at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

NBC is betting big on broadcast TV and its Peacock streaming service for its 2024 Paris Olympics coverage, as it embraces more live coverage of the summer games.
NBCUniversal said Thursday that it planned to stream all 2024 Olympics events live on Peacock next year, a first for the summer games (the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Olympics only saw a handful of events streamed live). In addition, the company says that it will air at least nine hours of coverage during the daytime hours, including live coverage of the finals for key events like gymnastics, swimming, and track & field.
The company says that the 2024 Olympics will see the NBC broadcast network air more live programming than in any prior Olympics. Telemundo will, as usual, have exclusive Spanish-language rights.
At the same time, the company says it plans to offer an “enhanced” version of its traditional primetime show. In years past when time zones have proved challenging,...

Peacock is spreading its wings and taking flight. NBCUniversal’s streaming platform stands at over 20 million users, and according to the company, viewers are not just flocking to the service for hit original shows like “Mrs. Davis” and “Poker Face,” or for content from Bravo or the Hallmark Channel.
Universal movies have also been a big draw for the service. Peacock reports that two out of every three of its users have watched a Universal film on the service, and since the service now claims around 22 million users, rough math indicates that translates to around 14.5 million viewers.

NBCUniversal executives did not comment on the writers strike at Peacock’s New York-based NewFront presentation to advertisers Tuesday, even as hundreds of Writers Guild of America members and their supporters rallied in a picket line outside the 5th Avenue event.
The scripts for the occasion, led by Peacock president Kelly Campbell, were prepped ahead of Monday’s late-night call for a strike once contract negotiations broke down between the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). They were not modified Tuesday to include remarks about the strike, despite the fact TV and film writers had gathered in mass outside at the WGA East’s only planned protest for Day 1 of the work stoppage.
“At NBCUniversal, we’re known for incredible storytelling. But my favorite story from this past year isn’t about a big-hearted human lie detector or a kick-ass nun on a mission,” Campbell...

Two-thirds of Peacock’s 22 million subscribers have watched a recent Universal theatrical film, the NBCUniversal streaming service announced at its NewFronts presentation Tuesday.
Emphasizing the value to advertisers of the pay-1 window for Universal films, the company told ad buyers in the audience that 95% of viewers expressed a favorable opinion of the ad experience during movies. Fresh releases generally have only pre-roll ads and then stream without commercial interruption. The new pay-1 setup came about last year when Universal’s output deal with HBO reached its end and NBCU, like all media players, re-examined its pay-1 strategy in light of streaming.
The NewFronts event unfolded against a rancorous backdrop as WGA members set up a picket line on Fifth Avenue just outside of the venue, forcing attendees to weave their way through hundreds of picketers. On the corporate front, NBCU is also regrouping after the sudden ouster of former CEO Jeff Shell.

The new regime at Peacock has spent the past nine months preparing to take its baby bird to new heights.
The number of big moves made by the NBCUniversal-owned streamer — from amping up its original content slate to livestream deals with Hallmark, Reelz and Big 10 college football to bringing NBC shows back into the fold for next-day viewing and eliminating its free tier for new users — is setting the stage for what executives hope will be a growth spurt in 2023. Peacock, which launched three years ago last month, will show of its brighter plumage Tuesday with its New Fronts presentation to advertisers.
“It’s all coming together,” says Peacock president Kelly Campbell, who signed on in October 2021 after serving as president of Hulu. “We’re just seeing an increasing interest overall when it comes to inflow and engagement, and people are stickier than they were in the past.”

Do you want streaming to be more like network TV again? Well, Peacock has heard your prayers. The streamer has begun rolling out a new feature on the service allowing subscribers to watch their local NBC affiliate station online.
The livestream feature, announced by Peacock on Tuesday, is set to officially launch on November 30, but will begin appearing on certain subscribers’ profiles immediately, as the streamer rolls it out. The livestream can be found on the service’s channels page, which hosts linear broadcasts of other brands such as WWE, NBC News, and several sports franchises like the NFL and Premier League. Although Peacock has three subscriber tiers, the NBC affiliate livestream will be exclusive to the Peacock Premium Plus subscription, which charges 9.99 per month in exchange for zero ads.

Subscribers to Peacock’s top tier will soon have 24/7 access to their local NBC affiliate stations via a dedicated channel on the streaming service.
The geotargeted channel will be available in all 210 NBC affiliate markets on November 30. The channel will only be on Premium Plus, the top subscription tier, which costs 9.99 a month. The move is a significant leap forward for local TV stations in the streaming era. You’ll soon have another streaming option for Hallmark Christmas movies. Peacock has entered into an agreement with Hallmark Media to stream both live and on-demand programming from Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and Hallmark Drama as part of a linear plus SVOD deal for the network.
Starting Wednesday, Nov. 2, there will be a dedicated Hallmark brand hub on Peacock as a destination for all things Hallmark, including live simulcasts of all three channels with current season programming available live and on-demand the next day, as well as the robust library of movies in the Hallmark library – including holiday favorites.
This launches just in time for Hallmark’s busiest time of the year, as it rolls out 40 new Christmas movies in 2022, all of which will be available to stream on Peacock throughout the season.
Prior to this deal, the only streaming option for Hallmark movies was the Hallmark Movies Now service.

As a result, Peacock’s two senior corporate communications executives — Lisa Scalzo, EVP, Communications, Direct-to-Consumer and International, NBCUniversal Media; and Lisa McGann, SVP, Communications, Direct-to-Consumer — are leaving the company, we have learned. A rep for NBCU had no comment.

Peacock continues to expand its offerings in the reality show space and recently added the British series Made in Chelsea. The NBCUniversal streaming service released Season 18 through Season 22 on August 25 of the E4 reality series produced by Monkey Kingdom.
Made in Chelsea is a structured reality show following the lives of affluent twentysomethings living in London boroughs like Chelsea and Knightsbridge. The series has been airing since 2011 with a rotating cast of people throughout the years. E4 just finished airing in the U.K. the summer season that is set in Mallorca, Spain ahead of Season 24, which is expected to premiere in the coming weeks.
Made in Chelsea aired in the U.S. on the now-defunct Style Network back in 2012. In 2014, Bravo aired the summer season set in New York City. However, American viewers eager for more British reality television did not have access to the newer seasons of Mic until now.
