While Twitch lost some market share this year to competitors like YouTube and Kick, it’s still far and away the most popular streaming platform. In Q3, it was home to a whopping 85% of unique streaming channels—meaning that if someone went live during those three months, chances are Twitch was their home platform.
And Twitch’s annual Recap, which just debuted to a more positive community reception than some other hugely anticipated annual wrap-ups, includes data showing that new streamers continue to choose it as the place where they hit “Go Live.”
According to Twitch, 9.51 million new streamers broadcasted on its platform for the first time in 2024. To put that in context, Twitch on average saw 7.3 million individual streamers go live per month throughout the year, per Twitch Tracker. Clearly, not all those first-time streamers have continued on to be regular broadcasters, but the data available doesn’t tell...

We recently wrote about how, in the current creator industry paradigm, streamers seem to always be upping the ante, putting on bigger and bigger spectacles in an effort to grab more and more eyeballs. There’s perhaps no better example than Kai Cenat, who’s on day 27 of “Mafiathon 2,” a monthlong, 24/7 subathon that’s so far featured celebrity guests like Snoop Dogg, Serena Williams, Bill Nye, Soulja Boy, Chris Brown, Sza, and Lizzo.
The subathon has already snagged Cenat the new record for highest number of simultaneous Twitch subscriptions: 500,000+. He and VTuber Ironmouse have been trading that record back and forth with their respective subathons; she set it at over 321,000 during her own 30-day 24/7 stream in September, beating Cenat’s former record of 306,621, which he set during the first Mafiathon in February 2024.

Back in August, we wrote about TikTok‘s then-newly-launched Spotlight feature, a suite of tools that was designed for film and TV studios to tap into its user base and encourage sales of things like tickets and streaming service subscriptions. It tested elements of Spotlight with Dune: Part Two and House of the Dragon, but now, thanks to Sony‘s third Venom film, The Last Dance, we have a concrete example of Spotlight in action–and it just set a new record for TikTok.
To promote The Last Dance, Sony’s marketing team decided to run with Marvel fans’ appetite for easter eggs. It set up a Spotlight campaign where people who commented specific words on videos posted by the official @venommovie account would unlock unique animations. Comment “Venom,” for example, and a little animated Venom head would pop up in the center of the app screen with one of...

Sailor Moon Cosmos, recently released on Netflix, not only brings the final arc of Naoko Takeuchi's manga to screens worldwide but also features villains omitted from the 90s anime altogether. The arc's main villain, Sailor Galaxia, uses special bracelets to corrupt and dispatches them to destroy the Sailor Guardians and steal their Star Seeds. These dark Sailor Guardians are some of the deadliest adversaries Sailor Moon has ever faced, and one by one they eliminate her friends and allies.
Half of Galaxia's warriors are Sailor Animamates, women from across the galaxy whose home planets were destroyed by Chaos and are now controlled by Galactica Bracelets. They kill the Sailor Guardians of their planets and assume their power in service of harvesting Star Seeds for their master. The other half are true Sailor Guardians who have lost their way and will do anything to secure their own peace, no matter who they hurt.

When you think of a world-famous Twitch streamer, there’s likely to be a couple of obvious details. They’re probably playing video games in a bedroom or living space filled with neat props and toys. Maybe they’re roaming the streets or at Irl events, speaking to fans or pulling pranks. But one thing is clear about streamers: they’re all people. Their accessibility and humanity are often their greatest appeal. More raw and real than traditional celebrities, streamers are supposed to be relatable — or at least, they’re perceived that way.

Ironmouse is now Twitch‘s most-subscribed-to streamer ever. During her latest subathon raising money for the Immune Deficiency Foundation, the VTuber soared past Kai Cenat‘s 2023 record of 306,621 subscribers to more than 321,000–and that number’s still going up.
Ironmouse, who’s one of the world’s top VTubers and has amassed more than 2 million followers on Twitch, was live for 30 days straight to make this number happen. It’s her third year hosting a subathon for the Immune Deficiency Foundation, and each year, she’s broken subscription records. During the first subathon in March 2022, she became Twitch’s most-subscribed-to female streamer, beating kkatamina‘s record of 76,623 subscribers with a final total of 171,818.
A year later, in July 2023, she broke her own record, bringing in 205,488 subscribers and reaffirming her place as Twitch’s most-subscribed-to female streamer.

Fandoms are one of the most powerful forces in content creation. YouTube‘s latest Culture & Trends Report focuses entirely on fan communities, with data showing that 85% of internet users ages 14-44 consider themselves fans of something. And 80% of those fans use YouTube at least weekly to consume content about their interests.
YouTube says the creator industry is particularly conducive to the birth and growth of superfan communities because creators are often making content about things they themselves are fans of, from Minecraft to miniature rockets to manicures.
“[Creators] are experts in how to foster fandom online because, as fans, they know what fans want, and as creators, they know how to use the technology and platforms available to them,” YouTube says.
One of the platforms available to them is Youtooz, a merch company that turns over $40 million a year by teaming up with creators to produce figurines and other unique collectibles aimed at passionate fans.

Four of those three-time nominees are up for the Streamer of the Year prize. The creator joining Cenat, Quackity, Jynxzi, and CaseOh in that category is VTuber Ironmouse.
Extra Emily will not be up for Streamer of the Year, but her presence at the 2024 Streamer Awards will not be limited to her three nominations. The VTuber Awards included 25 categories, ranging from “VTuber of the Year” to “Most Chaotic VTuber.” Ironmouse, who has innovated the VTuber business while breaking viewership records on Twitch, won the top prize. She was also voted “Miss VTuber”. Other winners included Shylily and the VTuber organization Hololive.

Ironmouse has snagged a first-of-its-kind sponsorship deal with gamer tech company Razer. She hopes it’s a sign that more and more brands will be open to major partnerships with VTubers.
As part of the deal, Ironmouse – who is the most-followed English-language VTuber on Twitch, a founding member of VTuber talent group VShojo, and just became the first VTuber to win Content Creator of the Year at the annual Game Awards – is introducing a revamp of her bright and bubbly demon-girl model, featuring a pink, cat-ear Razer headset.
When her new model isn’t wearing the headset, it’ll appear behind her as she’s streaming. Razer branding will also appear across her channel. With over 1.8 million followers, that’s a lot of potential eyeballs. The real version of the headset her model is wearing is for sale on Razer’s website.

Ironmouse has beaten her own record and cemented herself as Twitch‘s most subscribed to female streamer–and most subscribed to VTuber.
The streamer (who began broadcasting 2017 and is a founding member of VTuber talent group VShojo) just peaked at 172,093 active subscriptions, beating her March 2022 peak of 171,818, per Dexerto.
Both that previous peak and this one were reached during subathons. Ironmouse’s current monthlong subathon began June 1 and is raising awareness and money for the Immune Deficiency Foundation. It’s a cause close to her: she has a form of primary immunodeficiency called common variable immune deficiency (Cvid).
“We did it bros,” Ironmouse tweeted about surpassing her previous peak. “We crushed last year’s record! I love you guys! Thank you for all the incredible support and thank you for watching! Today has been a magical day!”

The latest swath of data from the streaming industry confirms a truth that many creators already knew: If you want to become a star on a platform like Twitch or YouTube Gaming, it helps to be male.
According to a new report from Stream Hatchet, 99 of the top 100 streamers are men. The only woman to crack that ranking was Kaitlyn Siragusa, who has attracted 5.7 million Twitch followers with the seductive streams on her Amouranth channel. Stream Hatchet's findings confirm opinions that have been expressed by streamers of all genders. Earlier this year, popular creator Mizkif suggested that women have an easier time breaking out on Twitch, but they eventually run into a "glass ceiling" that limits the growth of their channels.
The male-dominated nature of the streaming industry's upper echelon is only becoming more pronounced. The June 2022 State of the Stream report, published by StreamElements, reveals that men are breaking...
