"Rick" Perez is a multiple award-winning nonfiction film producer, director, creative executive, story advisor, and narrative strategist. His documentary feature "Cesar's Last Fast" premiered in US Competition at the Sundance Film Festival and is hailed as the definitive film about American civil and labor rights leader Cesar E. Chavez. In addition to his work as a director and producer, Rick Perez was a senior staffer at Sundance Institute where he supervised a portfolio of projects and Institute partnerships focused on the convergence storytelling, innovative thought leadership, and themes vital to contemporary societies, and was a senior reviewer for the Sundance Documentary Film Fund. Mr. Perez speaks frequently on the subject of nonfiction film, moderates panel discussions on independent filmmaking, leads workshops on documentary storytelling; and nurtures filmmakers throughout the world, including artists traditionally underrepresented in the field of non-fiction cinema.
